MISSION STATEMENT

New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) was founded on the belief that all children have the right to be nurtured within a safe and permanent family.

NAC’s mission is to provide innovative high quality services in support of birth, foster, and adoptive families caring primarily for medically complex children, which includes children with severe physical disabilities, emotional and behavioral challenges, and developmental disabilities. NAC’s services enable children to remain in or to be returned to their families whenever possible or to be adopted by loving families. Working with children whose birth families live in poverty, NAC’s continuum of services ensures that children’s physical, social, educational, recreational, medical, and mental healthcare needs are met.

By supporting families NAC prevents lengthy stays in foster care, hospitals, or other institutions. NAC builds on family strengths, provides opportunities, and assists all family members in reaching for and achieving their potential.

Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to New Alternatives for Children’s NAC KIDS CAN Gala.

As we gather for this inspiring event, we are reminded that we are here for a very important purpose – to help ensure that the medically complex children and families served by NAC can and do achieve brighter and better futures. We believe that every child who walks through our door can succeed in reaching their potential and achieve their life goals. Time and again we have witnessed children faced with major obstacles thrive when they have the right support system.

This year marks an important segment of growth at NAC. We are proud to celebrate the building of our new 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters at 825 7th Avenue in Manhattan. We have moved into our new home and look forward to welcoming you to our Open House in early December. With this new home, we are laying the groundwork to ensure that we continue our vital and life-changing work for years to come.

None of this would be possible without the support of all of our friends here tonight. We are proud to be honoring one such friend, Roger Lynch , for his extraordinary commitment and generosity to NAC children. We extend an extra special thank you to our Dinner Co-Chairs

Michael Fricklas and Ynon Kreiz for helping to make this evening a spectacular success, as well as, to Jessica Cruel and Jon Batiste for lending their talent in support of NAC kids.

NAC JUNIOR BOARD

We are looking for young leaders with unique talent, passion, and commitment to join the NAC Junior Board! As a Junior Board Member, you will have the opportunity to work with other dynamic young professionals to think big about innovative ways to fundraise, advocate, and volunteer to help support NAC’s mission.

Why Join the NAC Junior Board:

• Giving back – help to change NAC kids’ lives directly through fundraising and exclusive volunteer events throughout the year.

• Networking - meet, mingle, and work with other like-minded young professionals throughout New York City

• Entrepreneurial and leadership opportunity - network and collaborate with NAC’s Board of Directors and learn what it takes to serve on a Board of Directors.

• Utilize and strengthen skills - participate in activities such as public speaking, fundraising, events, social media, advocacy, corporate engagement, and marketing.

VOLUNTEER & CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Join the NAC family and give back directly to children and families in need in our community. Every year, NAC works with over 300 individuals and 75+ company and corporate partners to deliver real help and hope to children with special medical needs.

Join us an individual volunteer or corporate partner for any of the below opportunities:

• Corporate Giving Drive – Give to a NAC child directly by organizing a company giving drive! Current drives include a Holiday Toy Drive, Book Drive, Winter Coat Drive, and School Supply Drive. Our NAC team makes it easy by setting up an Amazon Wish List that can be distributed to employees.

• Corporate Volunteer Day – participate in a NAC recreation event or help to sponsor a special event for NAC kids. Corporate-sponsored events can take on a variety of shapes and forms – go bowling with NAC kids; host a financial literacy or resume building workshop; spend the day at the zoo, a boat ride around NYC, or a softball game in Central Park with NAC kids. We leave it open to the interests and creativity of your team.

• Tutoring & Mentoring – By becoming a tutor or mentor to a NAC youth, you will get the opportunity to work one-on-one with a child and help shape their future.

• Recreation & Special Events – NAC has over 50 groups, recreational events, and holiday parties throughout the year for NAC kids. There is always something fun going on, and we need your help to make it the best day ever for NAC kids. Join us for trick or treating on Halloween, making heart cookies on Cupid’s Day, apple picking in the fall, or helping NAC kids go for the gold at the NAC Kids Olympics. There are plenty of opportunities to become involved.

If you are interested in partnering on a giving drive or volunteer opportunity, please contact NAC’s Director of Volunteers and Community Relations, Bobbi Nathanson at BNathanson@NacKidsCan.org or 212-696-1550.
