CASA SINCHI SACHA

Sinchi Sacha was founded in 1991 and is known for its special focus on conservation, and its responsible management and use of the cultural and natural resources of Ecuador. It has extensive experience with fair trade programs and projects, and the revitalization of craft, cultural and tourism skills of Indigenous, Afro-American and Montubio communities and peoples of Ecuador.

Responsible Cultural Tourism

It established the Ecuadorian Ethnic-Historic Handicraft Museum, Mindalae in 2005, where the traditional handicrafts of the ancient peoples of Ecuador can be seen. It includes a fair trade store and diverse tourism, gastronomic and cultural services that promote Ecuador’s cultural diversity. The Tianguez Cultural Center was established in the Historic Center of Quito 15 years ago on the legendary Plaza de San Francisco. The museum-store includes six galleries for exhibiting and selling handicrafts under the fair trade label. A cultural coffee shop and a gastronomic terrace are important features. La Casa Sinchi Sacha offers an experience in responsible, sustainable tourism and intercultural living. It is accredited by the WFTO, the World Fair Trade Organization, and is currently being evaluated by Rainforest Alliance. It is located in the Province of Napo, Tena County, Ahuano Parish, 180 kilometers from Quito (4 hours by land), and 24 kilometers from the city of Tena. It can be reached by a first class highway that takes a spectacular route through the alpine meadows of Papallacta, 4,000 meters above sea level, descending to the old city of Baeza and the Sumaco Volcano Biosphere Reserve. It then crosses the Huacamayos Mountain Range to the city of Archidona, the capital of the Napo Kichwas and famous Shamans. Ten minutes later, it reaches Tena, the capital city of the Province of Napo, and Ahuano is 24 km to the East. A modern international airport was inaugurated in April 2011 along the road.
