Last Updated: August 2024 Landscape Designer

I am a passionate landscape designer dedicated to conservation and creating accessible nature experiences for people. My work emphasizes the importance of soundscapes in landscape design, envisioning how auditory elements can enhance future spaces. I adopt a multidisciplinary approach, integrating cultural and ecological aspects to craft harmonious environments that resonate with both nature and society.

VIBES AND BEAT THE HEAT

Design-Build/ Construction Docs/ Construction

The design responds to the challenge of climate change and the increasing number, and severity, of extreme heat events, and how we can address these conditions with sustainable approaches. Providing shade and shelter, the design includes a fence whose form expresses extreme temperature gradients experienced in the area. Partnering with Romex and Architek provided an opportunity to showcase applications of their sustainable, solutions-oriented materials. Romex supplied materials that help to manage stormwater and enable rainwater harvesting. Architek supplied drought-tolerant plants—which they also use in green-roof designs—that improve air quality and address the “heat island” effect in urban landscapes. Overall, the project was an opportunity to demonstrate Stantec’s commitment to sustainable practices.

The intention of the transect is to create a journey through the process of learning. I thought it was a nice parallel to covid. The intention of the route is to connect the emotions and feelings. The intention of the paradise gardens is to entice, reflect, and wander.

The vast garden is a paradise for bison and people. Whether the vast garden is the beginning or the end of the journey there are many areas to explore. This garden can be an act of reconciliation with the people of Treaty 1. People from the Long plain Madison Indian Reserve No. 1, Roseau River Anishinabe 2B, and Na-sha-ka-penais reserves can help maintain and educate the

TETROMINO [S]TEPS

(2nd Place

Winner)Competition

The Barkman Tetromino is a proposal for a step unit designed from a tetromino geometric shape that encloses the patio space located on the north side of the Architecture 2 building at the University of Manitoba. The concept utilizes a modular design principle to fit together individual step units to create a larger, more complex unit with broader uses than the individual elements. Each modular unit can be arranged around a central open space for sitting and learning, while stepped edges can form transitional spaces for lingering and relaxing. Our product will be formed using the wet-cast concrete method. This will allow for a smooth surface and a greater potential for alternate configurations and shapes. By interlocking the individual combinations of the tetromino units, one geometric shape can be rearranged for various product uses that are applicable to other locations and product types.

ANCHORING EMERGENCE

Material/Narrative

As society and environment is forcibly changed, due to sea level rise, how can the community of False Creek rebuild landscape integrity? Specifically, in what medium can the locals use the environment to build a stronger community?

This Artifact is found in a world where environmental stewardship and building community are the foundations of society. It is Buoy tethered to a permanent anchor. This structure provides social and ecological infrastructure simultaneously. Keeping in mind our ecological footprint, the construction is based on renewable materials found in nature without the need for extensive harvesting and extraction.

WOVEN PLACE

Grading

Our project weaves together the past and present, to create a versatile and flexible place that provides a foundation for the future. We aimed to achieve this concept by translating ideas of weaving (such as the warp and the weft) to a design language through form, topography, planting and materiality.

The bridge cuts through the site and weaves with our topography. It represents both past industrial activities on site, but also the present, as its materiality mirrors the urban context and structure represents technological advancements. It also supports new futures - the bridge provides room for new and overlapping opportunities for programming and community involvement - such as columns that act as spaces of play, habitat, and provide a canvas for community engagement - as well as areas that overlap and coalesce to create new shared experiences.
