In the early chapters of the Alliance's history, Mindoir registered as a planet of relative insignificance. The absence of a military advantage, valuable metals and rare minerals, attributes reserved for resource-abundant worlds, rendered Mindoir overlooked in the eyes of military focus. Date: 21-8-2177 Admiral Hackett, In the aftermath of Mindoir's fall, when the Alliance Search And Rescue (ASAR) team arrived in 2170 CE following the Batarian raiders' retreat, they were met with a perplexing discovery. An unregistered, heavily damaged spaceport was uncovered, hinting at potential covert activities. Additionally, a makeshift maternity ward was found, showing significant damage and concealing an underground complex behind a Titanium Blast door, which bore scars of what appeared to be Biotic scorching.

The devastating bombardment had reduced both the main colony and the cult's enclave to ruins. Intrigued by this enigma, investigators delved into the mystery of why a farming colony would become the target of an immense, costly, and seemingly unprovoked military assault by the Batarians, humanity's natural adversaries. Through their inquiry, they were on the brink of revealing the horrors that had been veiled in secrecy within this remote domain.

Within the remnants, we came upon an Optical Storage Device (OSD) containing what seems to be the personal log of Jane Shepard's parents, along with their

complete Manifesto outlining the motives behind the cult and their vision for its objectives.

The Manifesto, penned with fervour, emanated a sense of unwavering commitment to a higher cause. It introduced a group referred to as "The Divine Vanguards," believed to be the chosen moniker of Jane Shepard's parents for their cult. The Manifesto's ardour stemmed from an ambition to create Human Biotic super soldiers—entities transcendent in both power and purpose, dubbed “Veneficus Prophets”. Biotic abilities were still in their infancy and far from fully comprehended, having been discovered just under a decade prior.

Note - “Veneficus” Latin, Meaning - poisonous, magical / witch, wizard, caster of spells.

The OSD detailed the cult's motives, weaving together ideology, advanced mysticism, and an unwavering faith in the divine. They believed in a mandate for perfection, an edict to sculpt humanity into an image of ultimate potential. Jane Shepard’s parents prognosticated an impending cataclysm, where these super soldiers, Veneficus Prophets, would emerge as the saviours of a beleaguered human race, a testament to their chosen status.

The conviction radiated from their words, urging the reader to grasp their vision.

"The Pursuit of Perfection…," the manifesto proclaimed, "...is our divine charge.

Through the creation of our Veneficus Prophets, Humanity's saviours, we shall manifest the apotheosis of human potential, ushering in a new era of enlightenment and order." The Manifesto described the choosing of three Prophets to become the avatars of—1.Shield, 2.Sword, and 3.Soul—resembling the holy Trinity in Matthew 28:19. The words spoke of ancient prophecies, of scriptures etched in the annals of time. The cult saw in these texts a divine proclamation, particularly the texts of (REDACTED) linking to Xenu, a call to shape the destiny of humanity.

"Ascension and Transcendence,..." the text whispered, "await those who heed the call. Through our divine work, we shall ascend to uncharted realms, becoming the architects of our own future existence."

The cult genuinely believed in an impending external, extraterrestrial threat, an existential spectre that necessitated the creation of their chosen Prophets. They viewed the super soldiers as shield, sword, and soul, with the soul being the mechanism allowing the soldiers to wield both sword and shield and thus putting the “Soul” prophet as prime amongst all three. However, all three were deemed essential to work in harmony to be most effective.

"Fear not, for we are the chosen. Through our might, we shall protect our sacred domain, and by our hand, the seeds of our divine truth shall be sown across the Galaxy." These words seemed to be mandatory prays for the young Biotic candidates.

The words reverberated with a palpable sense of authority, a faith in the profound transformative potential of their undertaking. Jane Shepard’s parents commanded a following of approximately 300 original members in their cult, but conspicuously lacked significant technical expertise and resources to fully actualise their divine objectives. As I read on, I marvelled at the audacity of their vision. The cult saw themselves as architects of history, etching their mark upon the tapestry of time.

They believed that through their fervent pursuit, they would stand as immortals, their legacy reverberating through the ages.

"Our names will be forgotten in time, but our legacy will endure. Our sect, “The Divine Vanguards,” and our “Veneficus Prophets” shall be remembered as the harbingers of a new dawn, the bearers of a divine truth."

Although the methods employed by the cult to achieve their goal bordered on madness, recovered medical dossiers, when viewed through a speculative lens, hint at a meticulously planned endeavour. Parents in early stages of pregnancy and caregivers of young children appear to have been willing subjects in chilling experiments, potentially involving exposure to Element Zero, both externally and intramural.

Uncertainty surrounds whether these women were aware of the potential for their lives and lives of any other volunteer to end in grim pain and suffering. It is speculated that those orchestrating this venture might have encountered little difficulty in finding such vulnerable victims. Speculation arises regarding the involvement of volunteering cult members, the notion of sacrificing their own children as resources for an enigmatic undertaking raises unsettling questions about the cult's mental health and possible ulterior motives and beliefs.

However, their actions hint at cold ruthless calculus in order to achieve said objectives, hardly flinching at the death of a cult member and in some cases, their unborn child.

In the underbelly of Mindoir, where the cult matured, conditions were far from optimal. Lacking the technical sophistication of official sources and the sanitation of regulated labs, the Initiative tread a path shunned by convention. Seeking help from the Alliance or anyone outside The Divine Vanguards was seen as a treacherous gamble too far, a move that could expose their operations and shatter their veil of secrecy. Official channels were off-limits, for the Initiative operated in the shadows, and any legitimate purchase of military grade Biotic implants, which they sorely needed, could betray their covert agenda. Their very purpose could be unveiled, their sponsors forced to flee into obscurity.

The Divine Vanguards introduction to the wider galactic community was marked by an unconventional, unexpected arrival of a UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle landing at coordinates officially non-existent on official maps of the main colony. Nevertheless, landing meer metres from the cult’s secret location’s entrance seems highly suspicious.

This event was eclipsed by the delivery of an impossible package from an unidentified courier, tall and thin with dark hair, bloodshot eyes a general scruffy appearance. Within the carefully wrapped package was a Quantum Entanglement Communicator (QEC), an extraordinary technological advancement surpassing conventional understanding.

The QEC had the potential to revolutionise interstellar communication, rendering traditional networks of communication buoys' networks obsolete. It represented a significant leap forward, serving as both a bridge between worlds and an instrument of unparalleled power.

The transaction leading to the acquisition of the QEC was more than a simple exchange of currency, it involved an exchange of influence and knowledge that transcended conventional measures of wealth. Beyond its utilitarian function, the QEC became a symbol of opulence and technological sophistication. Possession of it marked its owner as an entity of extraordinary resources and a formidable force in the galactic community. Whoever controlled the QEC wielded dominion over an expansive network of influence. Their ultimate ambitions remained known only to themselves.

In conjunction with Pel, a capable engineer by the name of "Claude" assumed responsibility for the oversight of Amp, Tech and surgical procedure support.

The Amp technology, characterised by its novel and enigmatic properties, emerged as a central point of intrigue. A discerning administrator, concerned by the introduction of non-cult members to the project, undertook the diligent documentation of incidents perceived as irregular and the provision of illustrative sketches of the additional personnel dispatched by the investors. Unfortunately, these sketches constitute the sole visual records available, as the investors' personnel remained insulated from CCTV surveillance due to a network-embedded virus.

Unveiled as religious allies, the investors concealed nefarious intentions and engaged in unauthorised and illicit experimentation on human subjects, with a specific focus on Element Zero exposure and its effects on human biology. Mindoir, once a tranquil refuge, found itself ensnared in shadows and secrets intricately woven into its very fabric.

For most, this led to the development of "Eezo nodules” that infiltrated their nervous systems. For the vast majority, excluding a select few such as Jane Shepard, these nodules rapidly morphed into cancerous growths, sealing a dire and inevitable fate. “The Divine Vanguards” attributed failure — whether it be the death of a subject or the inability to awaken Biotic abilities — to the actions of so-called "loyal officers," a concept derived from original (REDACTED) theology.

Their response to these failures unfolded as a grim cycle of escalating experiments, a desperate attempt to accelerate to meet the new investors ambitious goals. The heart-wrenching truth becomes clear as the unmarked graves scattered across the colony's outskirts serve as a solemn testament to the unfolding tragedy. These graves, believed to house the remains of the ill-fated parents or the enslaved women, alongside their innocent offspring, now stand as memorials to those claimed by exposure or early botched medical procedures.

Chilling discoveries unveil that the cult's ambition to breed or build three "Veneficus Prophets" — Biotic warriors — did indeed yield three successful cases, including Jane Shepard. However, Shepard stands apart with an astonishing natural mastery of dark energy control, a gift that surpasses mere potential. But Jane Shepard’s output was far from what was desired. Despite the cult's desperate attempts, the

program hovered on the brink of utter failure. Around 2157 CE, as impatience gripped the investors, arrangements were made to send one of their own medical professionals to expedite the project. This mysterious doctor, named Doctor Archer (possibly an alias) was activated. Oddly, Doctor Archer reached the cult's location on the outskirts of the main colony on foot. It's unclear why he didn't arrive directly at the cult's small shipping depot on one of the investors shuttles, as per their typical M.O. This raises questions about the Doctors true identity and the possibility of already being located on the planet within the official Mindoir colony under Governor Regis. Attempts to trace his records via official channels turned up empty, although there were indications of an association with a discredited A.I. researcher who is on the Alliance’s wanted list for unethical experimentation. Though this link was not fully investigated and remained circumstantial. On a regular visit to the main colony to secretly commandeer supplies in between drops from the investor, the cult, along with their supplied M-080 (APC variant), parked a little to close this time and were spotted by a security team that reported to Governor Regis. Without knowing it, The Doctor, the security specialist “Pel” and the Operations Manager “Claude” were now being tailed.

Regis and his aides, following the M-080’s dust trail, discovered the prefabricated buildings at the entrance of the cult. They were surprised to find such a well-established mini-colony so close to their own. Amidst growing concerns about the cult's clandestine facility, suspicions arose regarding their true intentions. Yet, the enigmatic leaders managed to sway officials with their meticulously constructed façade of an Alliance research centre. After a thorough tour of the premises (excluding the enigmatic church/lab), the officials departed without any inkling of the true nature of the operation.

To further cement the illusion, the cult provided the Governor with a list of company registration codes and a contact within the Alliance for any future inquiries. Taking this information to heart, the Governor attempted to reach out through the provided channels, believing he was establishing contact with the Systems Alliance.

Unbeknownst to him, the elusive investors, posing as Alliance officials, intercepted the communication. They promptly fabricated a response, assuring the Governor that an Alliance team would be dispatched for an on-planet meeting within the next three to six weeks — a promise they had no intention of fulfilling. In reality, all

external communications were severed, with the investors allowing only select data bursts deemed inconspicuous to pass through their filters and reach the extranet.

The project remained shrouded in secrecy, its true nature hidden from prying eyes.

With the chances of external interference now minimised, Doctor Archer meticulously documented the reception of precise directives and a well-defined mission in his journal. Official records substantiate his prompt assignment to examine a compact subterranean cave network directly beneath the cult's stronghold. He was subsequently tasked with establishing a cutting-edge laboratory, furnished with prefabricated resources, tailored meticulously to accommodate all the necessary state-of-the-art equipment. This juncture marked a pivotal shift for Doctor Archer, a transition from religious pursuits to resolute scientific endeavours in his discerning eyes. As a final directive, he was mandated to affix a fresh seal onto the entrance, bearing a new maxim: "The utilisation of any means to further humanity's ascension to Biotic divinity is wholly warranted."

The overarching plan was to secure and utilise the mysterious relic believed to house a power source akin to dark energy, possibly of Prothean origin. He couldn't shake the feeling that the cult's founding in this specific location was no mere coincidence. Yet, he was certain that the cult leaders only became aware of the cave's existence after he had disclosed the new plan. Doctor Archer's intent was to harness this newfound power source to "jump-start" experimental Biotic implants, even if it meant risking the lives of the cult members. Information regarding this artefact was incomplete, but the doctor's report included a basic outline of the proposed electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) procedure data.

Doctor Archer lacked comprehensive data on the artefact's internal workings, energy source, the radiated energy, or the safety parameters involved. He had to estimate the appropriate level of energy to deliver to the candidates, ensuring that they survived the procedure and produced useful data. The Doctor, understanding that electrons didn't travel through wires like a flow of water through a pipe, but rather the wires facilitated a directional energy field, assumed the energy of the new artefact used the same laws of physics. Meaning precise alignment of the artefact and the surgery chairs were crucial.

A plan was formulated to secure the artefact deep within a geological chamber and feed wires up to the laboratory, connecting directly to the surgery chair via electroconvulsive therapy ECT plates. The candidates would be immersed within the energy field, and the doctor would administer regular bursts of energy through the ECT plates to ensure sufficient exposure. The benchmark for this experiment was the measurement of Biotic output before and after exposure to the new artefact and its energy field.

Doctor Archer's hypothesis suggested that the device emitted a dark energy field capable of dramatically amplifying implanted Biotic amps and biological feedback in the candidates. As a side note, the Doctor also detected a strange pulse

emanating, similar to that of a infrasound. The seemed to effect cognition for a short time whilst exposed. The effect was very slight so declared not a threat to the experiment and was benched as a concern. While the cult viewed success or failure through a religious lens, aiming to resurrect their Veneficus Prophets, the investors now and always approached the project with purely scientific and detached objectives. Unbeknownst to the cult, all research data was routinely copied and transmitted to the investors through their QEC, including detailed medical reports on every cult member, regardless of their Biotic candidacy. As it became evident to the investors that Jane Shepard was the only candidate making the correct and intended progress with enhanced Biotic output, a decision was made to conduct all the high-risk, experimental surgeries and Biotic training on the other two candidates, whos progress was drastically below par and since the beginning of their exposure to the artefact.

Their personalities had also changed, becoming more and more unresponsive and bipolar in nature. This strategy allowed only the proven techniques and implants to be used on Jane Shepard, who was chosen as the “Soul” Veneficus Prophet. The others would be the “Sword” and the “Shield” Veneficus Prophets. The cults theory was that both the Sword and the Shield must be forged in fire, in pain, whilst the “Soul” Prophet had to be fashioned with care, experience and be the embodiment of purity. These intricate plots illuminate a landscape of carefully calculated ambitions and sinister intentions. As time ticked away, the artefact served as a catalyst for a new chapter. My team, scrutinising these pieces of evidence with suspicion, draw further connections between the shadowy investors and Cerberus, a clandestine organisation notorious for its ambitions and covert operations.

It is conceivable that a well-funded and operationally autonomous cell within Cerberus may be orchestrating this malevolent manipulation. Should these affiliations prove valid, they stretch into the realms of conspiracy, forging ties between the splinter colony and a malevolent force with sinister intentions. A significant artefact emerges from this investigation: a compromised window displaying the emblem of the cult. Even in its state of disrepair, this insignia echoes the cult's underlying purpose. This seal, akin to a symbolic gateway to their hidden knowledge, was crafted to dissolve upon contact, serving as a self-destruct mechanism safeguarding their innermost truths.

Date: 12-9-2177 CE Admiral Hackett, O.B.O Special Agent Jonathan Briggs, I, Doctor Antonio Kenson, utilising detailed first-hand accounts from Doctor Archer and other pertinent sources, have compiled a comprehensive report concerning experiments involving exposure to the enigmatic energy field emanating from the Monolithic artefact dubbed the “Dues Monolith”. The artefact's precise location was determined through coordinates provided by the sponsoring investors. In contrast to the standard unilateral electrode placement ECT procedure, where both electrodes are positioned on the same side of the candidate's cranium, Doctor Archer directly interfaced the electrodes with the candidate's subcutaneous amplifiers.

This methodological deviation was implemented with the explicit objective of establishing fusions between the central nervous system (CNS) and Biotic output, potentially proving instrumental in the event of a Biotic encounter.

A candidate endowed with automated defensive capabilities, coupled with the capacity for unwavering focus on offence, would exhibit unparalleled superiority in battle. Significant shifts in the candidate's implant energy spikes and duration were recorded within two to three sessions using the new artefact’s energy field. This novel new energy was channelled through the ascending and descending tracts, running from the spinal cord to the brain and vice versa, respectively. Implants linked to the candidate's ascending pathways were associated with the

This in theory would enable the candidate to manifest offensive and defensive attributes simultaneously. Subsequent to the implementation of the new exotic energy field, the technological essence of the implants seamlessly merged with the candidate's biology in a manner previously achieved only by super-advanced nanotechnology. The precise mechanics of this effect remain elusive. The doctor's private notes unveiled a hypothesis; he posited that the artefact generated an electromagnetic dark energy field, along with waves of infrasound and ultrasound, stimulating areas of the brain and limbic system. Following the use of the new energy field, Jane Shepard was the sole candidate whose endocrine systems and Biotic implants synchronised in concert.

This meant that in a state of heightened arousal or imminent danger, her body would generate a Biotic shield enveloping her entire form. Training was underway to broaden this effect, crafting a Biotic bubble to shield other members of the cohort when necessary. Additionally, it was explored as an offensive manoeuvre, focusing the field to act as a propulsive force. Another focal point was refining her energy fields, dispatching a dissipating field capable of rending enemies asunder, dismantling their defences and armour, and thwarting any attempts at healing or organic regeneration. Doctor Archer’s personal records depict the artefact as standing approximately twelve feet in height, fashioned akin to multiple daggers arranged along a central axis. At the base, outlets appeared surprisingly facile to manipulate, facilitating energy extraction from the device.

As a possible side effect to exposure to the artefact Jane Shepard developed discernible alterations in her demeanour, with submissive and subservient traits giving way following the second and third exposures to the

Headaches, hallucinations, and a pervasive sense of surveillance or paranoia became commonplace not only among the candidates but also for anyone spending extended periods within a fifty-foot radius of the artefact.

THE REBELLION From: Jbriggs@sawcc.gov Subject: Application No. 11042154 / The Rebellion Date: 9-9-2177 CE Admiral Hackett, I have compiled a comprehensive report, intended exclusively for your review, detailing the rebellion within the cult. The contents of this report are sensitive and should be handled with the utmost discretion. The investors who have been closely monitoring the operations of Mindoir from the point of their direct intervention, started receiving peculiar updates through the QEC from Dr. Archer and the designated security personnel, Pel. Reports became erratic, deviating from their intended topics, and their frequency significantly decreased. The Doctor reported constant requests by the cult members for time around the monolith. Some cultists became absolutely obsessed with it, even arguing over who had the right to be near it. Furthermore, the cultists started to believe that Jane Shepard was a direct link to the monolith due to her significant increase in Biotic abilities. As a result, she was openly worshipped by the cult members.

This, however, led to resentment from the Sword and Shield Prophets, who were seen as lesser Prophets. Eventually, Jane Shepard was elevated within the cult's ranks to the status of a “Soul” Veneficus Prophet, resulting in various rituals being conducted in her honour due to her extraordinary abilities. This shift in focus towards the Deus Monolith, coupled with the deteriorating condition of the Prophets, had sowed seeds of discord within the cult. Furthermore, the diminishing frequency and incoherence of Dr. Archer's reports had raised suspicions among the investors. While Dr. Archer was initially viewed as a valuable asset, his latter communications had caused concern about his mental state and the stability of his

leadership within the project. The other two individuals, identified as Sword & Shield or the “Betas" for the sake of this report, were becoming unwilling participants in the project due to the sheer amount of suffering they endured. The Betas experienced severe side effects and complications arising from the experiments conducted on them. During an intoxicated outburst from the Betas, where they broke into the chamber housing the monolith, they attempted to graffiti the room and damage the monolith. As if suspecting its demise, a pulse of energy emanated from the monolith turning the Betas against each other in a blur of Biotic power. When their energy weaned, and they settled down, both exhausted and unsure of why they just fought, getting themselves composed they stumbles upon paperwork from the Doctors secret filing cabinet, now laying it pieces. The Betas learned that they were subjected to experimental surgeries, exposures and procedures deemed too dangerous and extremely experimental to use on Jane Shepard. This revelation fomented internal discord and animosity among the trio. the Betas showed a growing inclination to target Jane Shepard, either seeking her downfall or intending to inflict suffering upon her, likely mirroring the pain from the complications they themselves have endured - Prolonged medical complications, including severe migraines and cancerous tumours, plaguing them due to the experimentation. During another scheduled procedure, the Betas rebelled, and an intense conflict erupted between Jane Shepard and the Betas. Concerned for the well-being of fellow cult members and her parents, Jane Shepard embarked on an escape plan from the cult's location. Regrettably, her attempt met fierce resistance from the Betas, leading to a violent confrontation resulting in casualties, including the tragic loss of a young boy who turned out to be Governor Regis’s Son. Dr. Archer, the cult leaders, the laboratory's chief scientist, and his associates barricaded themselves within the facility that housed the Deus Monolith, further complicating the situation. Governor Regis, hearing over comms that his Son was found perished, raged for the loss, he vowed to put an end to the cult. Believing the monolith was the heart of the Biotics powers, the Governor and his forces gathered explosives and successfully breached the laboratory, heading to the location of the cave entrance that housed the monolith. Details regarding what happened next are almost non existent, bar Jane Shepard’s first had account. What is clear is that certain people are still classified as missing due to lack of a body or remains found on the colony during the recovery, Governor Regis, “Pel”, “Claude” & Doctor Archer’s remains were never found.

I was just a teenager back on Mindoir when all of this unfolded. My parents were leaders of this cult, a splinter from the main colony. They were obsessed with creating these super Biotics, these so-called prophets. The others were called Betas by my parents - two of them, not counting me. The Betas were used for experiments, subjects for every dangerous procedure they could think of. Every mistake, every ounce of pain, they endured it all. One day, they found out - discovered what my parents had done to them, and they turned on me. It was a day I'll never forget - the chaos, the destruction they wrought with their Biotics and fury. I couldn't really blame them, not entirely. I tried to keep clear of the innocent bystanders, but it was a monumental struggle. I managed to break away and hide in the abandoned community centre. When the Betas went crazy, all the children were taken out of the schools and centres so I thought it was a safe place to hide. I was still scared of the Betas, they were so angry and powerful. Then, there was this boy, the Governor's son, about eight years old. He had a fascination with superheroes, believed I was one. When he

saw me use my Biotics, he believed I was a hero, just like one of those comic book tales he loved. He used to follow me everywhere, he once told me his name was “Junior.” He was a great kid. The Sword Beta, filled with rage, found me and cornered me in the community centre. I tried to reason with Sword, but the kid must have heard my voice because it was at this moment he appeared, he came rushing in, drawn by the clamour, the thrill. Poor kid, he had no idea what he was walking into. Then, it happened. He broke a bottle, catching Sword’s attention. The Beta turned on him without a second thought. A pulse of energy came from Sword's outstretched hand, sending the boy hurtling through the kitchen wall and smashing me to the ground. It hurt, bad, I was dazed. When that bastard sent the poor boy through the drywall, it must've ruptured a fuel line because it sparked a small explosion and a terrible fire. It all happened so fast. I sprinted toward the breach in the wall, desperate to save him.

But I was too late. Junior had stopped screaming, he was gone. One of Regis’s men entered at that moment, just as the boy met that wall of flames. He saw me, the boy’s brief screams now silent, lifeless. Our eyes met, a shared moment of sheer horror. He didn't know where to place the blame. In that instant, he radioed the Governor. Seconds later, there was an explosion in the main facility, followed by the strangest sound, that immediately made Sword, the Beta that had just murdered a child, turn and bolt heading back toward the cult's lair. Strange though, he had me, he could have finished me. I suppose he thought I was not a worthy enough opponent, that I was already beaten. I assumed he wanted to hurt me in another way, a worse way - to end my parents' lives and all those close to me. I couldn't allow the Betas to harm anyone else. I'd rather face my own end than shy away from a fight that I was likely going to lose and die. The boy still smouldering, I did what I could to put the fire out. Regis’s man even started helping me, but shortly after that awful sound started, he snapped out of it and bolted in the direction of the lab, totally abandoning the attempt and recovering the poor boy’s body. Then, I remember feeling this rage, but more like a burning, a surge within me - different from anything I had felt before. It was unlike anything I'd ever known. Biotic energy surged through my veins. I gathered myself and cleared my mind. I couldn't save the boy, I made a vow, right then and there. They would pay, all of them! I raced toward our lab, leaving the fire raging and that poor boy’s body behind. I've never forgotten his face. I still get nightmares. He is

always out of reach, burning. It's horrible. I guess it's my fault it happened, so I live with it. The surge of determination and anger coursing through my being carried me forward. The Betas, driven by their own anger and pain, left a trail of devastation which led the way toward the enclave. The very air seemed to thrum with tension, each step echoing like a heartbeat of my impending doom. As I neared the cave entrance, where the sound seemed to be coming from, I had to step over glass, rubble…bodies - friends, children. It was hell. Finally, I reached the antechamber leading to the entrance. Both Sword and Shield were trying to breach the door, easily dispatching Regis’s men who were also trying to get into the cave, to the scientists, to my parents. Then, the craziest thing happened - the sound, well, not really a sound, but the sensation from the cave suddenly intensified. Regis’s men who were initially fighting with the Betas to get into the cave, some of them turned on each other. They were muttering some shit about protecting the monolith - “The Darkness must not be… revealed” or something similar, was all they were saying. My memories, they get a little blurry from then, like a drunken dream. But like watching a movie, I saw Biotics clashing, a symphony of power that resonated through the desecrated halls. I could feel the energy building within me, a tempest ready to be unleashed. With every fibre of my being, I summoned a torrent of Biotic, something, a wave, a blast, just as much energy as I could gather, bathing the room in an incandescent glow. The Betas responded in kind, their own energies converging in a cataclysmic clash. We charged headlong into the maelstrom, a quartet of forces locked in a deadly dance. The very foundations of the enclave quaked beneath us, echoing the intensity of our battle.

Strangely, the floor rocked, explosions from outside could be heard, bombs were landing, it felt like the whole world was ending. Then, the world seemed to totally fragment, shattered like glass. My memories turned to snapshots. The next coherent image is of waking amidst a ruin, my parents pinned by rubble and I could only reach my moms hand, the cave groaning and threatening to collapse. I remember, I remember trying to summon a protective barrier, a last-ditch effort to shield my Mom and Dad from the impending disaster. They were holding each other and had enough room to hold out a hand to reach mine. My last vivid memory is seeing the terror and imminent death in my parents' faces. After that, everything fades. It's as though my mind erected a barrier, a shield of its own to protect me against the memories that

followed. What happened in those final moments is a void, a chasm in my recollection.

Maybe for the better, that's the last time I saw them, alive. The next conscious breath I drew was in the sterile confines of an Alliance hospital. The weight of what had transpired settled in my bones, a burden I carry to this day, along with my nightmares.
