WELCOME TO CEDAR PARK, TEXAS!
YOU’RE GOING TO LOVE IT HERE.

Welcome to Cedar Park, Texas! My family and I hope you come to love it as much as we do.
As you’ll learn in the pages of BeLocal, our city has a wonderful variety of engaging activities, parks, restaurants, and almost everything else you could want within your reach. In this article I’ll discuss how our city council and staff are working hard to maintain the small town feel and connectedness in Cedar Park, while sowing the seeds for innovation at an international scale as we grow.
Our city’s success starts with our sense of welcome rooted in our state’s name, which originates from a Native-American word for “friendly,” and is the basis of our official state motto: “The Friendly State!” That sense of welcome is extended to people of all backgrounds, as we celebrate the rich diversity of our residents. When dining out, you’ll find options from international to the local classics. For worship, we have places for many faiths, including Christian denominations, Hinduism, Judaism, and Islam. We find that we have so much in common, especially the desire to live in a community that is vibrant, beautiful, safe, thriving and connected.
With so many intelligent, hard-working and community-minded people moving to Cedar Park, our city attracts a wide variety of companies! Homegrown entrepreneurial, national brands, technology leaders, and even a space exploration company have their headquarters here in Cedar Park. Our thriving businesses that employ many of our

residents also enable us to have low property tax rates while still fully funding our excellent city services!
Cedar Park has over 1,000 acres of City owned parkland and around 31 miles of trails, with more under development! Our City Council decisions are guided by strategic goals of enhancing livability, economic vitality, service and fiscal excellence, mobility and connectivity. In our fast-growing region, we know that our city needs to continue to evolve and grow to continue being one of the most desirable places to live. We believe our city government should be as innovative as our residents!
What will the next phase of our city’s growth look like? How will Cedar Park maintain that small town connectedness as we continue growing? You tell us! Our community has long kept an eye towards the future without forgetting
our roots and core values. Our residents and business stakeholders have provided input that shapes our master plans. Please reach out to my fellow councilmembers or myself with concerns or new ideas you may have for our city, or attend one of our meetings, generally held on the second and fourth Thursday evenings each month.
I’m so happy to be here and want you to be happy too! Reach out to me at mayor.jim@ cedarparktexas.gov or on social media at @jpmforcp. Whether you are a resident, a business stakeholder, or both, thank you for making Cedar Park your home.
Welcome home,

OUR CEDAR PARK
By Eric Boyce CEO, Boyce & Associates Wealth Consulting, Cedar Park Mayor
Pro
Tem,
Cedar Park City Council, Past President, Cedar Park Economic Development Corporation, Past Chairman, Cedar Park Planning & Zoning Commission, Cedar Park resident since 2006
The future of the city of Cedar Park is a function of its rich and successful past. From its humble beginnings in 1873 as a family settlement for the Cluck family, Cedar Park continues to evolve and grow as it nears the 150th birthday of its founding and its 50th birthday as an incorporated city.
Cedar Park has certainly come of age in the last several decades. In 1980, there were a mere 3,474 residents, and as recently as 2000, that number was 26,049. Just prior to the 2020 census, it was suspected that the population of Cedar Park would exceed 80,000. I have lived in Cedar Park since 2006, and I have seen the population has grown by nearly 35,000 residents. Over the next 15 years, the city is estimated to add another 35,000, topping off around 105,000-110,000.
From dirt and gravel roads rose US Highway 183 and the emergence of commerce along what became Bell Boulevard. As businesses moved away from selling cedar posts and stone from the local quarry, the local economy grew, and

with it, so did the needs of the community. Despite its rapid growth, Cedar Park has relatively low property tax rates, a low crime rate, award-winning first responders, and consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in Texas.
The Cedar Park of today boasts strong livability, with plenty of green spaces for recreation, hike and bike trails, our own lake, a thriving retail climate, and ample entertainment options for the entire family. Cedar Park has a flagship regional medical center, incredible schools, and thriving community leadership embodied by the Chamber of Commerce, local employers, and well-established locally-based non-profits.
Over the last 20 years, Cedar Park’s economic development efforts have added close to 9,500 local jobs with a net economic impact of more than $16.5 billion. Our city’s exceptional business climate represents many industries, and the pride of the commercial sector is our innovative and community-focused small business entrepreneurs.
Looking ahead, the Cedar Park of the future has something for everyone. If you want family activity, live music, sports, dining, a place to stay, or even just some peaceful quiet downtime, you can find it within the 25 square mile boundary of the city.
The vision for the future of Cedar Park is extremely bright. As we continue to expand and fill out our current land area, residents will notice more innovative building designs, more master-planned/ mixed-use developments, and more projects emphasizing walkability, social gathering, and green space as well as opportunities for family activity.
Cedar Park will continue to be a place where people will want to work and do

business. I expect the city will continue to add high-paying jobs and employers in key areas such as technology and healthcare and should continue to rank as one of the more educated cities in central Texas - also ranking high as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and community involvement. Our treasured nonprofits should continue to lead the way in defining a culture of compassion and giving, providing a collaborative social safety net to benefit those less fortunate.
The one-time bedroom community continues to evolve into a true destination spot for activity, a destination for commerce, and a safe, happy, and supportive place to raise a family. In the coming years, Cedar Park residents will be able to live, work, and play in a city that warmly embraces all three.
The identity of Cedar Park will be defined over time by these and many other distinctly positive developments. City leaders, interested citizens, and the business community will all have an important role in this process as stakeholders in the legacy we wish to leave behind for the next generation.

LOCAL TIP

“Our new favorite place is The Republic Kitchen + Bar. It’s owned by the same folks that own Foxhole Culinary Tavern, so the food is top-notch. They also locally source their ingredients, beer, and wine.” – Mary C.

CAPMETRO Enjoy the ride!
By Becki Ross

CapMetro is the regional transportation authority which consists of on-demand pick-up services, commuter vans, bus services, and a rail line. Currently, Leander, Lago Vista, Volente, Austin, and a few other neighboring towns are members.
As growth continues and traffic gets heavier, the public transit system can help families get around each area more efficiently. By using CapMetro to commute, more of the day can be reclaimed to read a book, catch up on email, watch a show, or enjoy some quiet time.
Whether you need to run to H-E-B, get to work in the city, ride downtown for the night, get to an Austin FC game at Q2 Stadium, or something else, CapMetro has you covered!
Several years ago, CapMetro embarked on a journey to
create a light rail and rapid bus system that will eventually connect with the Red Line. It is currently in the beginning stages, but when fully built out, it will allow riders to seamlessly move around the city. If you are interested in the details, visit projectconnect.com.
If you are ready to see how CapMetro can help you, download the mobile app and start planning your first trip! Fare data and other information are available at capmetro.org.
The Leander City Council is embracing the partnership with CapMetro and working diligently to expand services to our residents. We want our community to move around easily and for guests traveling here to catch an enjoyable ride north!

The Central Texas SPCA rescues abandoned and homeless cats and dogs and cares for them in a home-like setting (indoor condos for the cats and off-leash play areas for the dogs) while they are awaiting adoption. We encourage you to support these worthy charities.
