1
THINGS YOU NEED TO DO! TEN
2
Change Your Address.
A new home is exciting, and we just want to spend all our time getting it ready to go. But it’s equally important to start things off on the right foot by making sure all the companies you do business with have your new address. That includes credit cards, banks, and membership accounts. Don’t forget to drop off the change of address form at the post office so mail is sent to your new place.
Start and Transfer Services.
Your utility companies will need you to schedule a start date to begin services. Transferring your internet and television service provider will also require an appointment. Get things set up as close as possible to your closing date but leave yourself a window of time before settling in, as it’s possible not everything will be done as soon as you move in..
3
Have the House Deep Cleaned. Everyone loves that “new car smell” –why not make sure to have that “new home smell” as well? Have a professional cleaning company come do a deep clean before you move in to make sure nothing was overlooked. Schedule the service before you move in so they can reach all areas of the house without navigating your belongings.
4
Replace Your Locks.
It’s 10:00 pm – do you know who all has a key to your house? Unless you are the first owner of a house, you don’t know how many keys and garage door openers to your new home are floating around in the world. Change the locks and either reprogram or buy new garage door remotes.
5
Protect From Pests.
The desert is crawling with all kinds of critters that also love your house and backyard. Scottsdale has its own share of pests you need to keep an eye on, including scorpions and termites. Have your house inspected to make sure you are maintaining or preventing any creatures that also want to call your place home.
Treat Your Windows Right.
A brand-new home probably won’t have window treatments and other homes may have old ones, if they have any at all. With our extreme heat, window screens and window treatments are especially important to help keep cooling costs down. Replace faded or torn screens, and update treatments to keep the heat at bay.
Personalize Your Place.
All those design shows you’ve watched, pins you’ve saved on Pinterest – now it’s time to put them to use! Spend time visualizing what you want things to look like before you move in. Aren’t a fan of the cabinets? Want different paint in the dining room? Eager to try a new decor theme? Now is the time to pull those visions together, as trying to rearrange couches to paint later on is never easy.
10
Get Your Yard in Shape.
Our climate helps to dictate what our landscaping looks like; if Arizona is your new home, yard maintenance is going to look a little different! The heat, monsoons, and mild winters all present different challenges for how to effectively use your yard space. Talk to a professional nursery or landscaping company to find which plants will do best. If you live in a community with an HOA make sure any changes you make are in compliance. If your yard is already landscaped, it’s still worth talking to a pro to make sure you’re taking care of it in the right way, including how to use our most precious resource, water.
Meet Your Neighbors.
The world has changed, but knowing your neighbors is still so important. They share your street, your schools, your community concerns. Take the time to meet those in your neighborhood; they will have the recommendations you and your family are looking for (and we at BeLocal often use!).
GET IN TOUCH WITH THE ARIZONA SPIRIT.
If you’re new to Arizona, you’ve picked a great place! While the summers are legendary and the variety of cacti are numerous, Arizona has so much more to offer. The state has a plethora of outdoor activities to keep you busy all year, not to mention the numerous options to keep you and your family busy all through North Scottsdale. Make sure to check out (www.arizona.com) for ideas.

QUICK QUESTIONS WITH SEAN DANIELS, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, ARIZONA THEATRE COMPANY
What do you want new residents to the Valley to know about the arts scene here?
I grew up in Arizona, and I didn’t grasp this until I left, but the biggest thing I always want people to know is that there is world-class entertainment here that is as good as you’d find in New York, Los Angeles, anywhere. We have shows here that then become Off-Broadway tours, and the theatrical world really looks to Arizona and Arizona Theatre Company as a place where great works start and get exported from. I feel like in Arizona, there’s this sense that if you’re here, you must not be that great, but it’s 100% not true. Not unlike Spring Training, you can see the best here for a portion of the price and better seats.
What’s unique about being the State theatre?
We say that we bring together the best of our state with the best of our country. Many of our shows will have a mix of local and nationally recognized artists but on stage, you can’t tell the difference. There’s great talent and growth here, and we want to show that it’s possible to be in the Valley and make a living at this. As we move more shows Off-Broadway and more shows that tour the country, that’s a great function of being the State theatre also; this is the best of Arizona.
What does the future look like for ATC?
One of the silver linings of the pandemic is that we were able to put together some really impressive online

digital offerings that reached more students in 72 hours than we reach in an entire year. The state is more than Phoenix and Tucson, so digital has removed the barriers for us to stream to schools all across Arizona. We look to create more and more opportunities for local artists so one of the benefits of digital is that it’s not mainstage productions or nothing – we can be supportive with workshops and readings, and develop plays that way.

“Zach Keating is a five star guy who runs a five star company. Our backyard was transformed from dirt to grass, pavers, and pea gravel. We couldn't be more satisfied. Zach runs a very professional organization. He gave us a quote for the work along with a hardscape detailing what it will look like, and provided a contractor that detailed the proposed work. He has provided follow up to assist with the watering system changes from winter to summer watering. As a 28 year former banker, I am impressed with his business and organizational skills. Sweet!” - Denny Stucker
