THE FIRST MONTH IN A NEW HOME IS ALL ABOUT GETTING SETTLED. YOU PROBABLY MADE ALL KINDS OF LISTS WHILE YOU WERE IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING AND GETTING READY TO MOVE INTO YOUR NEW HOME: THINGS YOU NEEDED TO BUY, ITEMS YOU NEEDED TO REMEMBER TO PACK, TASKS THAT YOU HAD TO GET DONE BEFORE CLOSING. NOW, SURROUNDED BY BOXES IN YOUR BRAND-NEW HOME, YOU REMEMBER THERE’S STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE! TO MAKE THINGS EASIER, HERE IS YOUR ULTIMATE “GETTING SETTLED” POST-MOVE-IN CHECKLIST.
Register Vehicles / Drivers License / DMV and Tax Agency Change of Address.
• Register Your Car and Transfer Your Driver’s License – As a new Florida resident, you must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads.
• Driver’s License/ID Cards – Applications for driver’s licenses/ID cards must be made in person at any local office offering driver’s licenses services. Manatee County Tax Collector Lakewood Ranch is located at 6007 111th St. E. (State Road 70) and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Everything that new arrivals need to become Florida residents – vehicle registration, licenses for driving and fishing, and voter registration can be completed at this office.

– Since there is no personal income tax in Florida, you only need to worry about getting a change of address in Florida for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to update their records. Set Up Security.
Secure your home against unauthorized access. Change the locks on all doors and change any access associated with your address if you have a security gate. Families should consider consulting a specialized home security company as well.
Prepare for Fire and Inclement Weather. Your home should have been cleared with an overall inspection of fire alarms. However, you should also protect your home against fire with several fire-extinguishers in working order per floor and make sure you know how to operate it in case of an emergency.
Notify Your Employer of Move. Even if you’re changing jobs, your previous employer should be notified of your new address a couple of weeks before your move. Your previous employer might need to mail important documents to you (like tax information) after you’ve been removed from the HR system. If you’ve been communicating with your new employer at your current address, it’s important to let them know about your new address and your moving date.

Update Your Estate Plan. Many people coming from out of state will need to amend their estate plans to conform with Florida law.
Update or Change your Health Care/ Medicare policy with a Trusted local Agency. When you’re moving, your address is not the only thing changing. You will also need to change or update your existing health plan or sign up for new health coverage. Normally, the only time you can enroll in a health plan is during the open enrollment period. However, your move may be considered a qualifying life event, giving you access to special enrollment. If you qualify, you have 60 days from the date of your move to apply for coverage. In some cases, your Medicare coverage can be used in your new state, and you may not need to do anything at all. In other situations, you may be enrolled in a Medicare plan that isn’t offered in your new state, and you may need to take action. In any case, changes to your health plans are a must!

WHAT IS CONSIDERED DANGEROUS
Most wildlife is harmless, and even the species we describe as dangerous prefer to avoid encounters with people. Still, some species can be very dangerous, and it's good to know what they are so you can avoid them. The marshy wetlands and coastal shores of Florida are home to animals, fish, and insects that flourish in humid and tropical environments. The region hosts a mix of native and exotic species, and both can prove to be injurious and a potentially deadly danger to its human inhabitants.

Some dangerous Florida animals are massive beasts with ancient ties, like the barreling bull shark and the brawny alligator. Other species have popped up more recently, such as the vampiric, parasite-carrying kissing bug and the disease-riddled wild boar.

From the Everglades to the landlocked center of the state, the deadliest animals in Florida have rightfully earned their fearsome reputations. Keep an eye out next time you're out for a stroll at a park or trail.
ALLIGATOR
The American alligator is a beast of a reptile that loves to make its home in Florida's dank and swampy terrain.
The alligator is an apex predator, resting at the top of the food chain above the fish, birds, and mammals it consumes. Adult male alligators can grow from 10 to 15 feet in length and weigh around 1,000 pounds. Alligators that size are rarely seen in residential areas. For all but the most massive gators, an adult human is too big to be considered a menu item. They prefer to go after prey they can overpower easily. Unfortunately, that means most alligator attacks are on pets. People walking dogs and small children near bodies of water should be especially aware of the danger, even if there are no warning signs posted. Never feed an alligator, regardless of how small.
SNAKES
Florida is home to 50 species of snakes. That's due to the diverse range of habitats. Throughout Florida, there are grasslands, forests, marshes and swamps, ponds, lakes, rivers—basically any habitat that would be an ideal home for a snake. That's why so many species thrive.
However, there are just six venomous snakes in Florida: the eastern diamondback rattlesnake, the timber rattlesnake, the dusky pygmy rattlesnake, the coral snake, the cotton mouth, and the copperhead. The eastern diamondback rattler has the most lethal bite.
None of these snakes are inherently aggressive towards humans, and most want nothing to do with us. Unless they are cornered or basking in the sun, these snakes will likely flee as soon as they "hear or sense" you coming.
When confronted, these snakes will typically shake their tails in a warning and slither away, but they will strike if they aren't left alone. Their bites are incredibly painful, thanks to a venom that damages tissue and kills red blood cells. If left untreated, a bite from an eastern diamondback rattlesnake has a 10-20% mortality rate.

These snakes are highly venomous and pose a genuine danger to humans. Each one of them, apart from the coral snake, is a type of pit viper.

Of all the household bugs in Florida, spiders can be the scariest. However, arachnids generally keep to themselves. There aren't really any scenarios in which a spider will attack a human unprovoked. And even the (very few) species most dangerous to humans would prefer flight over fight—which is why they tend to live in the shadows and hide.
There are two particularly dangerous spiders that can be found in Florida—the brown recluse and the southern black widow. Neither are outwardly aggressive towards humans, but they will bite if threatened.
One of the most dangerous spiders, the brown recluse, dwells in dark spaces. It's a shy creature that will play dead when threatened, but the brown recluse will also protect itself with potent venom.
Most bites are harmless, but in rare cases, necrosis can develop. That means destroyed tissue, scarring, and sometimes side effects like fever, dizziness, and vomiting.
The black widow may be small, but it's one of the most dangerous spiders in Florida. The female southern black widow is much larger than the male and has fangs that are long enough to pierce human skin. She carries a distinctive red "hourglass" marking on her underbelly, which warns of her venomous bite.
Although widow spiders are shy, if intimidated to the point of biting, they will inject a neurotoxic venom that can cause extreme sickness and, in some very rare cases, death. An expert can determine how and why spiders are entering your residence, propose a plan to reduce the population, and give you specialized advice on how to keep them away in the future.
MOSQUITOES
Super small compared to the other creatures listed here, but these insects can have a big impact on animals and humans.
They carry and can transmit heartworms to pets and other animals. Mosquitoes can also carry parasites like those that lead to malaria. Source reduction is the most important technique that homeowners can employ to reduce mosquitoes. Since mosquitoes need water to live, removing water sources around the home goes a long way to prevent mosquitoes from occurring.

BULL SHARKS
Bull sharks are hardy, stout fish with aggressive tendencies, and they'll try to eat just about anything. They mostly live in the ocean but can range in fresh and brack ish water, too. Because they hunt in shallow water, they're often found in places where humans like to swim.
FIRE ANTS

The red imported fire ant is native to South America and has gained a foothold in the southern U.S. These ants are notorious for their swarming behavior and painful stings. In Florida, fire ants can be found in every county.

While run-ins with fire ants are common, deadly encounters are rare. However, anaphylaxis, or a severe allergic reaction to the stings, can be fatal. You can eliminate these pesky creatures by locating their home by contacting a pest professional or applying natural or over-the-counter insecticide.
