HELLO & WELCOME!

When I moved from Austin to Georgetown in 2019, I found myself in a whole new world that I wasn’t quite prepared for.
The process of moving was both exciting and overwhelming. Without a trusted resource like BeLocal Georgetown to light my path, I struggled to make friends, discover my favorite places, and hire local businesses that I could trust.
After attending Leadership Georgetown and hearing Hugh Brown speak on “The Power of Moments,” I decided to open BeLocal Georgetown—so you don’t have to struggle as I did.
But I did not do this alone. This guide is a collaboration — created especially for this moment in your journey — by people that love this city. I’d especially like to thank Sydney Decker, Managing Partner at Hello Georgetown, for contributing her time and
talents to this guide. With her help—and the help of all of our contributors, you now have Georgetown’s best resources and brands at your fingertips.
BeLocal Georgetown would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors. Please join me, especially, in thanking our Founding Sponsors. This small group of community-focused, forward-thinking local business owners believed early on in what we were doing and stepped up to make sure it happened:

Greetings from Georgetown by Sarah Blankenship | Photo by David Valdez
IN GEORGETOWN, YOU’RE MORE THAN
By Mayor Josh Schroeder
welcome.
welcome.
Welcome to Georgetown, Texas!
Don’t let our small-town charm fool you. Sure, a stroll around our Square, which is named the most beautiful one in Texas, can feel a little like walking back through time — but you can be certain Georgetown is a city of today. As shop owners and neighbors greet you with a heartfelt, “Morning,” it seems like the rush and “weirdness” of Austin is a world away instead of just 25 miles south.
And while it’s true you can easily reach Austin, once you get here you’ll realize that you don’t have to go anywhere to have it all. The rotating exhibits at the Georgetown Art Center and shows at the Palace Theatre are just the beginning of the artistic adventures that await literally right around the corner. Explore a bit more and you’ll find public murals and art, distinctive dining experiences, watering holes and nightspots. We’re proud of the unique place we have
created and can’t wait to share it with you. In Georgetown, you’re more than welcome to enjoy Texas-sized culture right here in our more intimate setting.
You’re also welcome to enjoy life at a slower pace — without ever having to worry about falling behind. We’re more than just welcoming – we’re also a thriving business community. With a supportive community, easy connections, and a talented workforce, you can build your business or career right here. If you’re looking to expand your mind, we’ve got that covered, too. Southwestern University, the oldest in Texas, welcomes students from all over, fueling our community with fresh faces and new ideas.
And you know those small-town events that make you feel warm inside and wish you could live that life? Well, we’ve got those in spades. We may be famous for our Red Poppy Festival that welcomes visitors every spring, but we find a reason to celebrate in every season, from sunset movies at San Gabriel Park to a Christmas Stroll straight out of a storybook. Georgetown
welcomes you to share in our traditions and make them part of yours.
Whether it’s a cool dip in Blue Hole or a day hiking with the kids and even the family dog at Garey Park, everyone is welcome to enjoy the exceptional beauty of Georgetown. With so much in easy reach, there is plenty of time to explore or relax in the great outdoors. Our unbeatable parks and connected trails weave the community together just like stitches in a family quilt, uniting neighborhoods, open spaces, and natural wonders.
Around here, new neighbors quickly become lifelong friends and a sense of belonging only continues to grow from that first handshake or smile. If you are looking for a new opportunity, a fresh start, a place to put down roots or retire in your own style — whether you’ve come for the day or are here to stay, “In Georgetown, you’re more than welcome.”

Sincerely,

JOSH SCHROEDER, Mayor
City of Georgetown

By Sydney Decker, Hello Georgetown
TOP 10 LIST FOR GEORGETOWN
NEWCOMERS

I am so glad you’ve found our little slice of heaven… Isn’t Georgetown fantastic? Whatever has brought you here, I’m sure it won’t take you long to discover just how unique and special our city is. Perhaps you can already feel it — there’s just something about Georgetown that just feels incredible.
Georgetown is giving, Georgetown is kind, and most of all, Georgetown is good. I fell in love with it when my family first moved here and again later, when I graduated college and my husband and I came right back to start our own lives. We’ve never regretted it and each day we learn to love this community more and more.
While there are plenty of things that make our community wonderful, I recently narrowed down what I believe makes Georgetown the way it is: Georgetown isn’t just where you live, it’s how you live.
You can see it in a business that’s dedicated to supporting customers and community however they can, in a nonprofit whose “think-outside-the-box” approach is uplifting and changing the lives of people all around, or the numerous individuals who support and shop local because they know how much local business is the lifeblood of our community.
I’m so glad you’ve decided to call Georgetown home and in this guide, we will show you how we all live “the Georgetown way.” Before we dive in headlong, I’d like to give you a “quick start guide” to Georgetown, a little checklist of sorts, of places to visit and things to do that will help you plug into the community quickly.
GEORGETOWN IS NOT WHERE YOU LIVE... IT'S HOW YOU LIVE.
- SYDNEY DECKER

Known by locals as "Georgetown's living room," Mesquite Creek Outfitters is a beloved, local treasure.
FUN FACT
Georgetown, Texas has been named the fastest-growing city in the United States for cities with a population above 50,000. That’s according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday, May 26, showing the city’s population estimate of 75,420 and a growth rate of 10.5 percent.

HERE ARE THE FIRST 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN GEORGETOWN
1. CONNECT WITH HELLO GEORGETOWN AND BELOCAL GEORGETOWN THROUGH OUR WEBSITES AND OUR SOCIAL MEDIA
Georgetown is the kind of place where something is always happening...whether it’s a new business opening up, events, or just general community news.At Hello Georgetown and at BeLocal Georgetown, we share all of the great things that are happening in our great community.

practice. Since 2016 our team has worked and guided countless physicians and practices to help achieve their unique business goals. Using our proven methods, long standing

IF THERE’S ONE THING GEORGETOWN IS KNOWN FOR, IT’S OUR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY AND FRIENDLINESS TO ALL.
2.
VISIT THE GEORGETOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Our Chamber of Commerce is phenomenal. With over 1,000 member businesses and professionals, they are one of the largest Chambers in Central Texas! Stop by the Chamber to pick up their business directory. Then ask to get connected with Ann Kaiser (Ambassador of the Year) to learn more about our great city!
The Chamber also has great programs you can get involved with, including Leadership Georgetown and Chamber Circles! The Chamber’s programs are a great resource for anyone wanting to expand their knowledge or connect with new people, so don’t be afraid to dive in!
3. VISIT THE VISITOR’S CENTER
When my husband and I relocated to Georgetown after college, we rediscovered the Visitor’s Center and instantly fell in love with all its amazing resources. Starting our new life as a fairly new couple and as new residents of Georgetown, we couldn’t wait to get to know the community even better, as well as the neighboring cities and regions.

The staff at the Visitor’s Center are so kind and caring and can always point you in the right direction. Stop by to purchase some Georgetown merch and pick up brochures/information guides to help you get acquainted with the community and the fun places near Georgetown. I still find myself going back as I continue to look for new adventures.
4. CONNECT WITH THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN NEWSLETTER
Our City is excellent at keeping the community informed. In addition to following them on social media, be sure to sign up for their free weekly e-newsletter. It always has important and useful information for the current and upcoming month, including information about upcoming and recent city meetings, events, utilities, and even the Pet of the Week from the Georgetown Animal Shelter.
Signing up is easy, just visit georgetowntexas.gov, scroll to the bottom, and find “Sign Up for Weekly Newsletter” — it’s as easy as that!
5. GO GET YOUR LIBRARY CARD
I may be a little biased, but I truly think our library is one of the greatest libraries in these 50 states. But, don’t just take my word for it. The library has a long list of awards, including being one of 10 libraries in the country to receive a National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2018.
Getting a free library card is easy and gives you access to an incredible selection of books, movies, music, programs, and more! If that isn’t enough, then also be sure to check out their calendar of events and their own bookstore, “Second Hand Prose,” where you can buy retired library books for a monetary donation of your choosing.

FUN FACT
Events and festivals are a huge part of the Georgetown experience. To discover what’s happening around town, check out the event calendar on hellogeorgetown.com.
6. VISIT THE WILLIAMSON MUSEUM AND GO ON A COURTHOUSE TOUR
Housed in the historic Farmers State Bank, the Williamson Museum is an educational stop with a lot to offer. With new exhibits to explore all the time, you’ll love getting to know the history of Georgetown and Williamson County.
The museum is also excellent at hosting educational events, including the famous courthouse tour each Friday at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. You can stop by the museum or call (512) 943-1670 to confirm tours and meeting places.
7. ATTEND A CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP AND MEETING
I know, I know — attending city meetings isn’t usually at the top of people’s lists, but I can genuinely say I really enjoy our City Council workshops and meetings!
To me, what is usually most interesting to watch is the workshops where things are proposed, discussed, and... well, workshopped. It’s a little different than the City Council meetings where things are officially voted on.
The best part? You can view City Council meetings and workshops in person, on television via the City’s official GTV/Channel 10 on Suddenlink, or online (my personal favorite way to attend) on the City’s website or Facebook page. You can find the agendas for upcoming meetings online, too, at georgetown.org.

8. SPEND AN AFTERNOON OR EVENING ON THE SQUARE
You’ve likely discovered our beautiful downtown Square. On any given afternoon or evening (but, most especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), the Square is filled with people who are grabbing a bite to eat at one of our fabulous local restaurants, enjoying a drink at any of our amazing taprooms, or simply strolling in and out of the many boutiques and shops.
One favorite way to enjoy the Square is by bringing some camping chairs or a picnic blanket, setting up on the historic courthouse lawn, and enjoying a fun conversation and meal with friends.
9. GET CONNECTED WITH SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
Georgetown is home to a remarkable piece of history: Southwestern University. As the first university in Texas, it’s been an integral part of our community’s history since the very beginning. Southwestern always has lots going on, from theater and music performances, to educational lectures and sports games (definitely go to at least one football game), and more!
Southwestern also has an incredible Special Collections department that cares for and preserves much of Georgetown’s history.
Side note: Did you know Southwestern University invented homecoming? Yep! It’s true! Southwestern first introduced the idea of homecoming in April 1909 and it’s been a huge tradition around the world ever since! Thanks, Southwestern!
10. MEET NEW PEOPLE AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS!
You’re in a new place and that means new friends, new connections, and new habits. There are plenty of places to meet new people, especially as you dive into all Georgetown has to offer.
My advice? Don’t be afraid to jump right in: get involved with a nonprofit, try out new restaurants, join a club, program, or class. If there’s one thing Georgetown is known for, it’s our commitment to community and friendliness to all. We are so glad to have you and hope you come to love our town as much as we all do!

THE HISTORY OF
Georgetown

By Ann Evans and Sydney Decker
Georgetown’s history is robust and deep, with a new thing to learn around every corner! Our community has been a popular place to live and work for much longer than you’d probably imagine.
Fall in love with Georgetown even more by diving into our community’s history. There’s plenty of that to explore! If you’re ready to kickstart your journey down our City’s memory lane, start with the topics and places below.
SOUTHWESTERN — SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
If you’re ready to embark on learning more about Georgetown’s history, Southwestern University’s Special Collections is the perfect place to start.
People can view materials from a wealth of topics and historic resources like local, Texas, and Southwestern history, as well as collections featuring famous local icons like Senator John Tower and Frank Dobie, just to name a few. Believe it or not, one of its oldest artifacts is from approximately 2000 BCE!

Before going to visit, check out their website and call ahead to be sure of their current hours and available materials.
HISTORY OF THE SQUARE
If you’ve spent any amount of time in Georgetown, it’s likely you’ve discovered the historic downtown Square. The Square, as you see it today, feels like you have been transported to the 20th century through the 1940s (it was home to THREE movie theaters!). During the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, the Square was not the vibrant, favorite spot to hang out it is

today. But, thanks to intentional revitalization efforts, including one of the first Main Street programs in Texas, the Square is once again a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike!
Soak in this and more history by stopping by the Williamson Museum, visiting Preservation Georgetown (located inside the Grace Heritage Center), and exploring the wide array of historic materials available at the Georgetown Public Library.
THE HISTORIC COURTHOUSE
One of the most recognizable buildings in Georgetown is the historic courthouse positioned right in the middle of the downtown Square. This courthouse is the fifth one in Georgetown’s history and has been part of some very historic moments, including the very first conviction of KKK members in the

You can learn all about it by going on a tour of the Williamson Museum — tours are held every Friday at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Contact the museum at (512) 943-1670 for details and to confirm meeting locations.
THE CHISHOLM TRAIL AND CATTLE DRIVES
While it may be hard to imagine today, Georgetown used to be much dustier and sometimes a little rough. Did you know one of the last Wild West shootouts happened in the 1890s?
Georgetown also used to be routinely full of cattle as part of the drives across the Chisholm Trail–what would eventually be millions of cattle passing through Georgetown. The Chisholm Trail also saw some famous people, too, especially the cowboys and cattle drivers themselves.
Visit The Williamson Museum and the Georgetown Public Library to learn about cowboys, people like Emmanuel Orgain, and the historic African Americans who shaped Georgetown’s history and the cattle drive.
NEIGHBORHOODS AND HISTORIC DISTRICTS
If you’ve found the historic downtown Square, you’ve probably also stumbled across our beautiful historic homes. These homes are carefully and lovingly preserved and protected by homeowners and organizations like Preservation Georgetown.
Each neighborhood has its own origin story and history including, the Belford Historic District, the San Jose Neighborhood, and the Track Ridge Grasshopper Neighborhoods with Shotgun House Museum. Dive into the unique story of each of these areas by visiting Special Collections at Southwestern, Preservation Georgetown, and the Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association.
INTERSTATE 35
We’ve all seen the Disney movie Cars and the effect an interstate can have on a community. The story of Radiator Springs is very similar to Georgetown, but with a bit of twist. The construction of Interstate 35 changed everything, both bypassing and revolutionizing the city all at the same time. While people didn’t have to pass directly through the heart of the community to get to Austin

anymore, it also breathed new life and transformed Georgetown into a suburb.
Additionally, the creation of the interstate also resulted in the discovery of Inner Space Cavern (that story in and of itself is fascinating), which drives countless numbers of visitors to the caves and nearby city we all live in today.
Learn more about the interstate, Inner Space Cavern’s history, and more in the book Road, River and Ol’ Boy Politics by Linda Scarborough.
GAULT SITE
Georgetown is a popular place to live and move to today, but would you be surprised to know its popularity stretches back much further? Try several thousand years.
The Gault Site was originally discovered in 1929 and has provided archeologists and historians with a wealth of artifacts since. Tours of the site are available through the Williamson Museum and the Gault School of Archeological Research. Tickets are $10 and tour dates are listed on the Williamson Museum website (williamsonmuseum.org).

ST. DAVID’S GEORGETOWN HOSPITAL
One major component of Georgetown’s culture is care and compassion for others, and one place you’ll see this on full display is at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital. They’ve had a long history of serving our community.
There are two places to start learning about the hospital’s story: a book entitled Caring for Georgetown: The Story of Healthcare, a Hospital and a Community by Mary Steger, and the companion documentary by filmmaker Twila LaBar. You can find the book at the Georgetown Public Library and watch the documentary for free through the Georgetown Health Foundation at gthf.org/documentary.

It was on July 27th, 1848, that the town was renamed to Georgetown, replacing its old name of “Brushy.”

START A NEW FITNESS ROUTINE TO LOOK BETTER, FEEL STRONGER, LIVE LONGER, AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS!
By Sydney Decker
As you’re getting settled into our community, finding a fitness routine is probably on your list of to-dos.
Georgetown has a wide variety of fitness options for all different ages and all different levels, from kids all the way up to senior citizens. There’s a little bit of everything for everybody, from yoga, to gyms, to group fitness, to outdoor activities, total wellness, and everything in between.

Take your time to explore and visit different gyms and programs in the area and find the one that you enjoy the most. You’ll best set yourself up for success by finding a workout or program you enjoy doing, and it’s also a great way to meet new people and make new friends in the community!
You’ll find that most local gyms and studios are very involved in our community, from supporting the local sports teams, fundraising for nonprofits, and more, so plugging into local fitness groups or gyms will also springboard you into deeper connections in Georgetown.
FUN FACT
Texas was the first southern state to ratify the 19th Amendment. In 1919, Georgetown resident and Southwestern alumna
Jessie Daniel Ames quickly registered about 3,500 county women in 17 days for the upcoming election on the steps of the Williamson County Courthouse.

We have been boarding our dogs at Countryside for over 10 years. Anne and her sta are friendly, caring and knowledgeable. The facility is welcoming, very clean, the kennels are roomy and there are multiple play areas. Most comforting, though, is the fact that my dogs are excited and pulling toward the door when we arriveCountryside definitely has their seal of approval.

Spacious suites heated and air-conditioned. Owner and other personnel live on site.

FOUNDED IN 1840, SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY IS LOCATED ON 700 ACRES OF TOWERING OAK TREES AND GRAND LIMESTONE BUILDINGS. AS TEXAS’ FIRST INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING AND THE LEADING UNDERGRADUATE LIBERAL ARTS UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE, SOUTHWESTERN PRIDES ITSELF ON A PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION WITH DISTINCTIVE CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS THAT PREPARE ITS STUDENTS FOR GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES AND THE CHALLENGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY.
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
FIRST IN TEXAS, AND THE BEST

As a leader in innovative undergraduate education, we offer a life-enriching experience for talented individuals who share a passion for intellectual exploration, engagement, and growth. Students learn from award-winning professors in a curriculum incorporating the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. With a student-faculty ratio of 11:1, our undergraduates learn in a challenging but engaging environment, often collaborating with faculty on scholarly research, conference presentations, and publications.
Complementing our inquiry-based learning model, students participate in high-impact, transformative experiences such as funded and academic internships, community-engaged learning, and studyabroad programs in countries all over the world.
These life-changing experiences create the practices of thinking, creating, and connecting that last a lifetime and are the hallmark of the Southwestern Experience.
Because of our location in the fastest-growing city in America, the University is poised to be part of a dynamic economy. Situated on the doorstep of Austin’s “Silicon Hills,” where tech giants such as Google, Samsung, Tesla, and others dot the Texas Hill Country, students are invited to engage in one of the world’s most dynamic cultural and tech-savvy destinations.
Most undergraduates live on campus and actively participate in more than 100 student organizations. From student legislation to activism to Greek Life, there are numerous opportunities for involvement outside the classroom. Our athletes compete in 20 different sports at the NCAA Division III level. As a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Pirates have won championships in football, baseball, softball, volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s swimming and diving.
There is an unmistakable feeling of momentum across campus. Numerous projects are in the works that lay out the University’s vision for a more sustainable, accessible, and inclusive environment that will foster teaching and learning while preserving the historical integrity of the campus. From the upcoming renovation of Mood-Bridwell Hall to developing a sustainable planned community that celebrates the liberal arts, we are laying new foundations to build a better tomorrow.

Last spring, we announced plans for a new multi-purpose sports complex. When completed in 2025, it will be the first time in 75 years that football has been played on campus. The new complex will seat more than 3,000 people and host football, lacrosse, and soccer games, as well as special events and performances. It will also serve as the new location for commencement ceremonies.
Slated for construction on the east side of campus, there will be a new entrance that will welcome all members of the Southwestern community. Planning is also underway for a new admission center and two new multi-use residence halls that will increase the number of residential beds by 149.
One of our most significant projects is the development of 500 acres of land we own contiguous to campus to create a community based on liberal arts values and ideals. This is a once-ina-lifetime opportunity to enlarge the University’s presence, not just in terms of usage and economic resources, but in terms of visibility, mission, and vision.
Living in a college town like Georgetown provides unmatched charm and endless opportunities for its residents. All are welcome on campus, whether it’s continuing your education by

auditing a class, participating in a social event, or enjoying our beautiful green spaces.
There’s plenty to get involved in at Southwestern, like cheering on the Pirates at an athletic game or match. Attend a theatre or musical performance in the Sarofim School of Fine Arts. We even have an on-campus art gallery! Join us for a public lecture where we will bring a speaker to campus or dive into the past during a visit to our Special Collections in the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center. There you will find a phenomenal archive of historical records, documents, rare books, manuscripts, and other fascinating material.
To foster more collaboration with the city, the University established The College Town Committee to strengthen the relationship between Southwestern and the Georgetown community. This connection provides a joint opportunity for University employees and city community leaders to work together to improve the quality of town and gown relations. The committee meets three times a year and includes agenda topics of mutual interest to business and non-profit organizations and campus employees.

Southwestern is a destination like no other. Here, students learn how to think critically and creatively, and you will see our dynamic future taking shape with renovations to existing buildings and the construction of new facilities. Our doors are always open to the local Georgetown community, and we invite you to join us on campus.

A railroad line was connected to Georgetown from Round Rock in 1878, a line that was connected to the rest of the country via the International Great & Northern Railroad. This was a dramatic shift for the growing town, enabling new businesses to open and operate.

THE FUTURE OF
GEORGETOWN GEORGETOWN
A LOOK AHEAD FROM KEVIN PITTS , MAYOR PRO TEM
Whether you’re entirely new to our town or a returning resident, I am glad you’ve decided to join our community. In Georgetown, there’s so much that makes this city a great place to live.
Our small-town charm, events and festivals, and award-winning parks and trails help make Georgetown one of the most attractive places to live and work in the country. Most of all, though, it’s the residents who make Georgetown wonderful.
And the secret of Georgetown’s appeal is no longer a secret.
Today, Georgetown is experiencing unprecedented growth. In fact, Georgetown was just named the fastest growing city in the US by the US Census Bureau. The City’s population is estimated at over 100,000, and roughly 45% of Georgetown residents moved here within the last 10 years. These figures do not include the unincorporated jurisdiction of Georgetown outside of the city limits, where tens of thousands of additional people live but are not considered Georgetown residents by the Census. But to me, these neighbors are members of Georgetown, too.
I can assure you that your City government is working hard to respond to and plan
for the year-over-year record growth while maintaining our services and character, through continual planning and investing.
The City employs more than 950 dedicated, talented staff members who work diligently to keep up with the demand growth creates. From police officers and firefighters to planners, parks staff, electric and water technicians, and more, Georgetown employees take great pride in their work. When you see them out and about in our town, give them a wave or thanks – they really work hard to serve you.
The vast majority of City staff reports to the City Manager, David Morgan, who has worked
tirelessly for Georgetown since 2015. Morgan reports directly to your Mayor and sevenmember City Council. City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month. The public is always invited to stop by! Learn more about our meetings and members at Georgetown.org.
This team of elected officials and City staff – all committed public servants – are devoted to providing you with the highest level of customer service, while keeping our costs of service as low as possible. In fact, as of the 2024-2025 City budget, Georgetown had the third lowest property tax rate and had among the lowest overall cost of service in the
Central Texas region. That’s possible, in part, by continuing to attract new employers and development. In fact, Georgetown logged nine major projects totaling $628.5 million and 868 jobs in 2024 alone!
Infrastructure and long-range planning continue to be a top priority so we can meet the needs of our existing and future community. Toward that end, we’re already working on a number of plans, studies, and updates to make sure we’re primed and ready for the sustained growth we are expecting.
One of the levels of service we pay particular attention to as we grow, and as Central Texas continues to experience annual droughts, is our water utility.
As you know, water is a finite resource. Eight months out of the year, we are able to provide clean drinking water to all of our customers, with about 30 million gallons a day left over. However, during the summer months and largely
due to lawn irrigation, we are coming extremely close to the limit of what our water treatment plants can produce.
This is why you will hear about our year-round watering schedule: No watering on Mondays, and each water customer can water two days a week, based on their address.
The City is doing what we can when it comes to water resources, too. We recently completed the expansion of the North Lake Water Treatment Plant and rehabilitation of our Southside Water Treatment Plant. In the summer of 2025 we’ll complete the first phase of the South Lake Treatment Plant with the second phase on schedule to be online in 2026. This $225 million project will bring 44 million gallons a day for customers and nearly double our treatment capacity.
Of course, anytime you have growth, especially rapid growth, you are going to have an increase in traffic. Transportation and traffic management are
always high priorities, and we continue to plan for and address traffic on the streets we manage. Many transportation improvement projects, including some from the $120 million mobility bond voters approved in 2021, many projects began construction in 2024 with the remainder scheduled to break ground in 2025.
In addition to the major road projects, routine street maintenance and sidewalks continue to be important areas of focus for us. It costs substantially less to maintain a road than it does to rebuild it. We use a quarter-cent sales tax to fund annual street maintenance dedicating over $6.5 million annually to improving our existing roadways
As a final comment, I want to let you know how important you are to Georgetown’s success. We are members of a great community created by the many residents who came before us. Thankfully, those who came before us welcomed us with open arms. It’s now our turn. I’d
encourage you to jump in and get involved in this community, so we can work together to make Georgetown better for those who come after us.
Whether it’s joining (or creating) your neighborhood association or non-profit board, volunteering as a mentor to students at Georgetown ISD, providing constructive feedback to your elected officials, or simply signing up for City news, there are dozens of ways to plug into Georgetown. We want and need to connect with you: Only then can we leave Georgetown better than we found it.
This welcome guide is chockfull of great resources to help you make a difference in your City. Please look for those resources – or check out our website (Georgetown.org) for more. Feel free to reach out to me at district5@georgetown org or follow me on Facebook at Facebook.com/KP4D5 as well.
Again, welcome to Georgetown, neighbor. We’re glad you’re here.
