B
erkshire’s NHS Health Bus was in Bracknell and Woodley last week supporting Carers Week. It was at The Lexicon to help those people looking after a loved one. An unpaid carer is anyone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is. This year the theme was ‘Putting

Carers on the Map’ highlighting the invaluable contributions of carers across the UK and ensuring their voices are heard loud and clear. The bus also attended Woodley during the week. Cllr David Hare, executive member for adult services, health and wellbeing at Wokingham Borough Council, said: “Putting carers on the map is very important. Many carers often
don’t realise they are carers, so it is important we do all we can to help, recognise, value and support them, not just as part of Carers Week, but beyond. It is great to see there will be lots of ways for people to get involved in Carers Week. There will be information events, along with opportunities to unwind and celebrate the dedication of our local carers. Continues on page 2
