Say YES to hosting family and friends this year!

We love a good party here in Wine Country and we’re sharing our best hosting tips with you to make it easy.

TIP #1 Keep it simple You don’t need a fully stocked bar to entertain guests. Pick one white and one red “house wine”, your favourite easy-drinking beer, and one or two signature cocktails. A bottle of sparkling wine is always nice to have on-hand, too.

How much do you need? Plan for 1-2 drinks per guest (depending on your guests and the type of party you’re having). A 750mL bottle of wine has an average of 5 servings and most cocktails have 1-2oz of spirits per drink.

Cabernet Merlot cranberry juice soda water maple syrup nutmeg to taste cranberries for garnish

Mix all ingredients together and serve on ice.

orange, sliced rosemary hot water frozen cranberries frozen strawberries

Steep rosemary in hot water until room temperature. In a large punch bowl, combine cranberry juice and wine. Slice orange and add to mix. Add rosemary with the ¼ cup of water to punch and stir. When ready to serve, add frozen strawberries and cranberries and stir. This will chill the punch without diluting.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add whisky, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake and strain into a rocks glass with ice.

Float with 1 oz red wine.

Wayne Gretzky Canadian Cream Liquor eggnog

1/2 oz

1 pinch 1 stick

spiced Red Cask Whisky* cinnamon cinnamon stick

Fill glass with ice and add all ingredients. Stir until chilled and garnish with a toasted cinnamon stick. You can use a BBQ lighter to burn one end of the cinnamon stick, and either bridge it over top of the glass, or drop it in for added flavour.

*to make spiced whisky: 1 bottle 2 sticks

Red Cask Whisky cinnamon

1 vanilla bean 1 750ml bottle or decanter

Remove 2oz. of whisky from your bottle of Red Cask and set aside (or enjoy). Add 2 cinnamon sticks and a vanilla bean into bottle of whisky. Let stand for three days, shaking the bottle every morning and night. Strain whisky into another bottle, or a decanter, leaving the cinnamon and vanilla behind.

TIP #2 Prep in advance The less you have to prepare on the day of your party, the better.

Since we can’t all have an executive chef in our kitchen, pre-planning is key!

Forgo the formal sit-down dinner and keep it social with finger foods, dishes that can be served at room temperature, and your go-to baked goods. This ensures guests can enjoy the food throughout the party without anything getting cold. If you want a warm dish, put your Crockpot to work.

Last minute get-together? Pick up store-bought appetizers on the way home and arrange them on your best platters (it’s our secret).

Create no-cook appetizers. Cheese and charcuterie boards may seem ordinary, but you can dress them up on live edge wood or marble trays and add olives, nuts, honeycomb and spreads (think cranberry or fig).

TIP #3 Stay safe A responsible host always has nonalcoholic drinks and water available.

Serve water in beautiful pitchers with lemon, cranberries or cucumber. Be prepared for overnight guests with extra toothbrushes and towels or have taxi phone numbers on-hand to get your guests home safely.
