WHAT’S ON

UNSURE HOW TO FIND YOUR FAMILY HISTORY?

QUEENSLAND THEATRE’S FINAL FOUR PLAYS OF 2022 Single tickets to the final shows of Queensland Theatre’s 2022 Season are now on sale, giving the public the opportunity to secure seats to Wesley Enoch AM and John Rodgers’ hit musical The Sunshine Club, Kendall Feaver’s multi-award-winning The Almighty Sometimes, an adaption of the Shakespeare classic Othello by Jimi Bani and Jason Klarwein and Christopher Johnston’s highly anticipated new play First Casualty. The final shows of the season round off a rich and diverse line-up that showcases some of the state and country’s finest talent. July will see the revival of The Sunshine Club, with Wesley Enoch AM returning to Queensland Theatre to remount the work he was originally commissioned to create at just 28 years of age. This production will showcase the incredible voices of Marcus Corowa, Irena Lysiuk and Roxanne McDonald, with more talented artists to be announced in the coming months for this joyful, toetapping Brisbane musical. Kendall Feaver’s intimate family drama, The Almighty Sometimes, is a profound and captivating story that explores the complex relationship between parent and child when mental illness threatens to destroy their innate bond. Feaver’s knowledge of the topics combined with an empathetic approach and lighthearted humour encourage the audience to open their eyes and heart to these difficult themes. Touted by StageNoise as a

production that is “as good as it gets: hugely entertaining, beautifully performed and deeply rewarding”, Queensland Theatre Associate Artist, Daniel Evans, is set to direct this awardwinning work for Queensland audiences in August. In September, after being postponed from Queensland Theatre’s 2020 Season, Queensland will finally be treated to Othello, William Shakespeare’s classic tale of jealousy, betrayal and revenge, thrillingly reimagined by Jimi Bani and Jason Klarwein for its Brisbane season, after premiering as part of Cairns Indigenous Art Fair in 2021. Set between Cairns and the Torres Strait, it’s a trilingual production that illuminates the vital role of the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion during World War II. Infusing the narrative of Othello with the history of the battalion brings together two powerful artistic cultures — Shakespeare and Wagadagam — creating an utterly distinctive theatre experience. Rounding out the 2022 Season in November will be the much anticipated First Casualty, a world premiere that delves into the experiences of Australian soldiers at war — written by serving Australian Army Lieutenant Colonel, Christopher Johnston. Tickets are already on sale for this production after its postponement earlier this year To secure your tickets to Queensland Theatre’s final four shows in the 2022 Season, visit queenslandtheatre.com.au.
