MAUREEN IS STREETS AHEAD IN THE LIFESTYLE STAKES

For more than half her life, Maureen Spratt has called Caulfield Drive home.

Maureen and her late husband Ray purchased the five-acre property in Burpengary East (QLD) more than 40 years ago and together they built their home and created a beautiful life with their two children.

After Ray’s passing nine years ago, and with their children now having families and homes of their own, Maureen has been managing the large property on her own.

When the Stockland Halcyon Communities team offered to buy Maureen’s land, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to downsize to a bigger life without having to change her street address.

“The more I thought about moving into a Halcyon community without having to move out of my street, convinced me that it would be the perfect place for me and on my own land,” she said.

After making the decision to sell her property, Maureen has become the first home buyer at Halcyon Promenade. One quarter of the Earth’s surface is covered by grass But not all grasses are equal. Certain grasses provide the surfaces on which some of our most celebrated athletes and teams play their beloved sports before adoring fans.

Like sacred sites, these hallowed grounds can be found around the world; The Gabba for fans of cricket and the AFL Lions Suncorp Stadium for rugby league and rugby union tragics.

Perhaps few Residents here at Elements at 224 Dennis Road, Springwood, realise that we are all living on Hallowed Ground!

Well, it was for a generation of rugby and cricket playing John Paul College (JPC) students and their parents.

Early in the nineties JPC, desperately short of playing fields, acquired the land Elements now stands on. The nicely terraced hill we live on now was flattened to make level playing fields (no pun intended). Parents came to mow, mark out fields, help build a carpark, drag in an old caravan for a tuckshop.

The Besser brick change rooms were places where no parent, conscious of their health, ventured anywhere near.

“While it was sad to say goodbye to our family home of 40 years, I’m glad I will be staying in the area where I’ve got lots of friends,” Maureen said.

“I’ve already picked my site and the home I want after visiting the display homes at B by Halcyon (Buderim QLD) with my daughter.”

In a special tribute to Maureen and her rich history in Burpengary East, Spratt Park will be constructed at the entry of the community.

“I feel very honoured that Spratt Park has been included as part of the masterplan and I can’t wait to move in next year.”

It was place where, after a game, the aroma of sweaty players and their rugby jerseys and socks permeated the air.

John Paul College eventually was able to acquire sporting fields closer to the College, and the land was sold to Chiou See Anderson for the building of her planned retirement village.

So, while we may have small gardens here in Elements, don’t be surprised if, one day, you dig up an old cricket ball, a rotting rugby boot,, mouthguard or a rusting ref’s whistle. And when you do, remember this is Hallowed Ground!

LIVE THE LIFE YOU WANT WITH A TAILOR-MADE HOME CARE PACKAGE

For husband and wife Dieter and Irma Rindermann of Caloundra Rise, life together at home has remained possible thanks to accessing Home Care Packages from Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ).

“The staff are fantastic, always smiling and giving amazing care. They regularly check in to see how my husband and I are going,” says Irma.

“I would highly recommend SCCQ’s service to anyone needing help to remain living in their own home. Without the help we receive, it would not be possible for my husband and I to continue living in our own home.”

A Home Care Package (HCP) is an Australian Government funded program that provides a range of services to assist you so you can live independently, in your home for longer.

Practical, diverse and personal, a HCP is designed by you and delivered by an approved provider, like Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ).
