Talk about a change of luck In 1999, an Australian named Bill Morgan was declared dead for 14 minutes after an allergic reaction to medication he was prescribed to help his recovery from a car crash. Later he was revived and lived on unscathed. To celebrate his survival, he bought a Scratch-It and won a $27,000 car. A news team picked up the story and asked him to re-enact the scratch card moment, so he bought another card and won $250,000 live on camera.
In 1964, a teenager named Peter Roberts invented the world’s first quick-release ratchet. He sold his patent to Sears for $US10,000 after the company convinced him that his invention was not worth much more. Sears went on to make $US44 million in its first 10 years selling the ratchet. Mr Roberts sued Sears for fraud and was eventually awarded $US10 million.
