PARKLAKES 2 AN IDEAL PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY

I

t’s a massive tick of approval when two leading consultants choose to build their family homes in the residential development their company has helped create over the past few years.

That’s exactly what Covey Associates project manager, Damion Macdonald and environmental manager, Dr Chris Walker have chosen to do at Parklakes 2 in Bli Bli. Maroochydore-based Covey Associates has managed the Parklakes 2 construction, including the civil, environmental and landscaping design. Macdonald has been the lead project manager, while Walker has managed the environmental works, designing the stormwater treatment system, including the floating wetlands and lakes system.

Walker and his wife Katie were the first residents to live in the estate, moving into their new house in April last year while Macdonald and his wife Michelle and two children now also call Parklakes 2 home.

Walker says Parklakes 2 is an ideal place to live as it is 10 minutes to everything the coast has to offer including beaches, the airport and major shopping and entertainment precincts in Maroochydore.

ocal hotelier Scott Armstrong will construct his company’s fourth hotel on the Sunshine Coast within the $20-million Bli Bli Village Centre.

It’s been a meteoric rise for the familyowned Sunshine Coast Hotels group with the Brightwater Hotel, Parklands and Bellvista Taverns all established over the past five years.

Managing director Scott Armstrong says Bli Bli was the next logical place to establish a hotel, with the community enjoying solid population growth with a strong number of families and retirees living within the area.

FLOATING WETLANDS ATTRACT WORLDWIDE INTEREST

C

ovey Associates Consulting Engineers have been responsible for the planning, design and construction of some of the largest residential and commercial infrastructure projects on the Sunshine Coast, but there’s no doubt that Bli Bli holds pride of place for Kevin Covey.

“We’ve been involved with all the major Bli Bli developments, from the first stage of Parklakes in 1995 and this has continued

for the past 22 years thanks to the 700-lot Parklakes 2 masterplanned residential community.

“We’ve also designed Cutters Ridge estate, completed the engineering for the new Bli Bli River Markets and managed a number of road upgrades including Lefoes Road and School Road. Our team have also designed and supervised construction of several major roundabouts at David Low Way near Cutters Ridge, Yandina Bli Bli Road and Nambour Bli Bli Road,” he says.

In partnership with the University of the Sunshine Coast, Covey’s team also pioneered the use of constructed floating wetlands to treat stormwater in Australia. In fact, the world’s largest wetlands system for treating stormwater is installed within Parklakes 2.

“We are never afraid to try new things and the floating wetlands project at Parklakes 2 has generated worldwide interest. We were in Lyon, France in June last year presenting on the project at the Novatech Conference and it was great to get so much positive feedback from the international researchers in the science and engineering community,” Covey says.
