Hospital reprieved (for now...) Aer months of uncertainty, Aboyne Hospital appears to have been given a lifeline during the ongoing restructure of in-paent services in Grampian. The Bellwood Road site was closed during the pandemic and, as me passed, Aboyne residents and their representaves wondered if the facility would be allowed to remain so. But the manager of the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) announced at the end of October: “As you know there is extreme pressure on the whole health and social care system and much of that pressure is exacerbated by a lack of staff across all areas of service provision. Thankfully through the hard work and dedication of our Senior Charge Nurses and ably supported by the wider team, we have been able to recruit a number of staff to both Morven Ward at Glen O’Dee and Aboyne Community Hospital. Meaning we will be able to open both wards.
“It is our intention to begin re-opening Morven Ward as soon as possible and to start to admit as soon as we are able. As we start to re-open Morven there will be a period of transition where we will be unable to run both wards at full capacity whilst we ‘on board’ our new starts. We have escalated the need to get our new staff into post as soon as possible and we are hopeful that we may be able to speed that process up. “We truly hope that this will remain stable for the coming months however we are acutely aware that with the best will in the world things can change at short notice. As an SMT we are hopeful that we will be able to sustain the operation of both wards, however we may need to revisit this decision at short notice and revert back to a single ward for Deeside in-patient services should we find ourselves without the staff we need. We are also very aware that this decision may increase the pressure on our staff, and we would ask you to continue to support our community teams, GP practices and the wider community throughout this winter.”
