My Prosperity Tree Staff Highlight: Thomas Vaughan It is day three of Profit Con and Tommy and I find time between a 5k and a fair well barbecue to sit down and catch up about the convention, My Prosperity Tree, and all things Profit First.

Tommy Vaughan is the newest addition to the My Prosperity Tree team and the youngest at that! Don’t let his age fool you though, Tommy is a natural when it comes to bookkeeping and accounting. Other things that seem to come naturally to Tommy include hard work, football, spending time with loved ones and finding a great Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich.

It was both of our first Profit Con's and we've learned a lot. So, what did you think of the convention?

“I loved it! I've met a ton of new people; I learned a lot of different things and the different ways that other Profit First Professionals go about achieving similar goals. I’m learning the many ways you can make this system work for you.”

Yeah, it's nice to meet other people, brainstorm, and compare your efforts. Now you’re pretty new t o the world of accounting and consulting, correct?

“Actually, not really. My mom is a CPA, so I grew up around the business quite a bit. I knew pretty early on though, that I didn't want to go into business with her. I wanted to forge my own path. Although the experience has helped me a lot in life, I wanted to know I could make this work on my own as well.

So going to school to be a CPA has been great for me and post COVID I have to say I'm thriving in the hybrid environment. I like the independence and flexibility of doing school online. I find that I can make it work for me.”

Overall it’s an extremely useful tool in the business owner’s arsenal.”

Now I went to art school which I don’t think I have to explain to you is very different from accounting school. Could you explain what the experience has been like? Being an accounting major, you have to take a lot of business classes which come pretty easily to me.

In those classes you mostly learn how to collaborate with coworkers, keep morale up, simple stuff like that. I really enjoy the accounting classes and learning all the different methods.”

Now my next question would be how does working for an accounting and business consulting firm compare to your education?

“Oh, I love working so much more than school because you’re still learning while you work but you also get the real-world experience. Getting paid while learning doesn’t hurt either.”

Yes, that is nice, and again you seem like someone who likes to be independent so it’s unsurprising that you thrive in that kind of environment. So as some may know we work with My Prosperity Tree which is a business growth program that works on a system called Profit First. What do you think of the Profit First methodology?

“I think its very interesting. It works off simple principles, is easy to follow but it really maximizes not only the business owner’s potential for profits but to gain a better understanding of their own business. Overall it’s an extremely useful tool in the business owner’s arsenal.”

So the question I always ask everybody at the end of every interview, regardless of if they're part of our team, a client, or a vendor, is what's your idea of a perfect day?

I ask this because, at My Prosperity Tree, we always focus on trying to get the business owner away from the desk. We want you to have a complete well-rounded life. I'm always curious about what people do outside of work because we’re passionate about business owners being healthy.

“Well outside of work I play football, exercise, and make time for loved ones like my friends and my girlfriend. We're coming up on two years now and she’s been living with me and my parents for the past year, she’s such a trooper. For a perfect day though, I'm waking up, its Saturday or Sunday morning. I leave my girlfriend asleep I get myself a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and a nice beer and I sit down and watch football for 12 hours!”

Man, that sounds like the life! Good food and football, that's a great way to unwind.

Transformation: ProfitCon 2023

By Samantha Wuestman On a cold, grey afternoon, I arrived at Newark Airport and headed to the Madison Hotel for my inaugural ProfitCon experience. This annual gathering of Profit First professionals attracts entrepreneurs from around the globe, uniting to exchange knowledge and foster growth as business owners. Despite Darren's assurance that it would be enjoyable, I had only a vague idea of what ProfitCon had in store for me.

Little did I know, the experience would exceed all expectations.

Upon check-in, I rendezvoused with Darren to be introduced to the event's sponsors.

Donna Leyans of Pumpkin Plan Your Biz welcomed me to the main hallway, where sponsors like Officially Social and Relay were set up. Officially Social, a social media content calendar, enables posting branded, Profit First-approved content across platforms. Relay, as the first bank following the Profit First method, establishes clients' bank accounts aligned with the system from the outset. After engaging with sponsors and attending seminars, we were treated to a dinner with Darren, Michele, Tommy, members of Darren's Mastery Mind group, and the Clockwork founder, another convention sponsor. we got to catch up and shop talk.

As Day Two unfolded, we gathered in the main convention room after a group breakfast. Michael Walker was invited on stage to get the blood pumping with a rousing sing-along.

As if the day couldn’t start off on a higher note, we were introduced to the Profit First Band who played their big hits “Profit First Song” and, “Save a Buck” a hilarious rendition of “Save a Horse” that taught us all the importance of saving a buck and keeping the profit.

Our first speaker, JJ Virgin, a triple-board certified nutrition expert, shared insights from her successful ventures and stressed the link between business health and the well-being of its owner. She outlined an easily implementable regimen of incremental changes to diet and exercise for improved physical and mental health. By the time she left the stage, she had us promising we would invest in our health and EAT PROTEIN!

Day Three commenced with a crisp early morning at a nearby nature preserve, where a 5K was organized by the convention organizers. Michelle and I, less focused on the race, enjoyed identifying mushrooms and trees along the way. After a successful morning, Tommy and I conducted a Staff Highlight Interview, a valuable opportunity to connect since we had never met in person before. The final convention activity was a family-style barbecue at Mike Michaelowitz's house, where new friendships were forged, and business

But of course, Mike couldn’t let her walk off without engaging her in a friendly arm wrestling contest. Next, a State of the Union address provided updates and insights into Profit First, along with upcoming communication changes.

We participated in a wish-fulfillment exercise, fostering connections by selecting and fulfilling a fellow attendee's wish. Then it was time for awards before a lunch break. The rest of the day was colored by incredible speeches by Michael Pollard, Joe Woodard, Rhamy Alejeal, and Tripp Crosby. Some speakers discussed ways we could focus our attention on key methods to optimize our operations. Others discussed the barriers we face to improve our systems and culture. last but never least there was Tripp Crosby, who introduced us to his viral video marketing business with a hilarious video skit about the reality of online conference calls. Tripp encouraged us to be bold and clear with our messaging and that if we needed further

alliances solidified, all while enjoying good food and drinks with musical accompaniment by Mike and Michael Walker. As we headed home, the echoes of the newfound knowledge resonated in my mind.

So what is ProfitCon really? It transcends the typical business convention. First of all, the entrepreneurs who come to ProfitCon are dreamers and doers. They can’t wait to share their knowledge and do what they can to help their fellow business owner. I encountered numerous remarkable entrepreneurs and their teams, all excited to learn about My Prosperity Tree and our endeavors. The exchange of encouraging words among business owners was unprecedented. The speakers were passionate and although they spoke on a wide variety of issues they were single-minded in their goal of improving the quality of our own operations. Profit First is more than just a network of entrepreneurs, it’s a powerful team of go-getters dedicated to each other’s success. ProfitCon is a celebration of entrepreneurial freedom that brings passionate people together to energize and inspire each other.
