Museum of Tibetan Buddhism in WuDang Lamasery April - June 2011 TJU-UCLA Architecture Joint Studio Tutors: Prof. Ben REFUERZO, Prof. XU Zhen, Prof. WANG Jianghua Independent Work In this studio, all the students were requested to respond to the context of this project, especially its special cultural and religious backgrounds. Rather than using some mysterious religious symbols, such as Wheel of Dharma and Lotus, I'd like to think deeper of culture and local's life style.

When I anaylized the site and the local's life, I found two types of space which were connected in some way. That is where this project started.

This project starts with sections. By using lighting tube to lift the exhibition part, the main circulation forms.

"Over the Wall" Zhonglian Cup Architecture Competition September - November 2010 Nation-wide Competition Tutor: BIAN Hongbin, XU Zhen Partner: SHEN Ruoyu Role: Concept, Models, Diagrams, Drawings

This project tried to focus some social issues in CHINA and respond to them by using architectural strategies.

During our research, I was so surprised that a huge gap occured in the city between local and alien workers (in China, many farmers lost their land and came to work in the cities). Just for appearance of the street, the urban village was seperated simply by a wall.

In order to bridge the two sides of the wall and encourage people to communicate, this proposal began with dealing with this wall.

Evolution from wall to "bridge" As the development of this project, we saw the potential of sections, not only the single one's form, but also the arrangement of a series of sections.

By arranging the relationship of geometry of each section, the path appeared naturally. In this way, sections became three-demensions.

This building consists of following layers: the interior space and the surface provide the basic functions of building and also the two different paths to go through the wall.

Since the activities of students are full of variety, the design of students center should be a series of functional fragment, rather than a single building.

Facing the complex of function and environment, this project trys to blur the boundaries of buildings and landscape to creat a new place for students. All the landscape fragments and diverse program zones are emerged from the site, and also rebuild the site itself.

This part mainly forms the stage and enhances the atmosphere of site.

As student center, show is the most important function, therefore, the stage becames the main focus of this project.

In this project, environment of site is not isolated to the architecture, on the contrary, it beoames a very important part of architecture itself.

When some certain program zones meet the site, changes happen and uncertainty of place emerge. The space where the certain function zones and uncertain environment meet is a mix of architecture and landscape, which welcomes all the students to come over and its complex form adjusts to the site to creat a new place near the lake.

The new student center is not only the rigid program. By analyzing the site and tranformation of building, architecture also became part of landscape, which porvides potential event spaces for all the students.

Green House on Roosevelt Island June 2012 Academic Design Work Tutor: Ferda Kolatan, Hart Marlow Partner: LI Dan Role: Concept, Drawings, Renderings What we are trying to achieve is to apply the very specific beautiful form of flower to the architecture strategy combining with ecological thinking.

In this proposal, the beauty of architecture does not come from abstract languages, but very clear and specific form. By develop with both forms and other aspects of architecture, we embrace much more interesting possibilities.

Reshaping Community with public spaces and green spaces June 2012 Academic Design Work Tutor: Rafi Segal, Laila Seewang Partner: FAN Shuning Role: Concept, Models, Diagrams We mainly focus on the communication between neighbors, which could be the crucial basic unit of social activity and harmony. In this sense, greenspace in community plays a very important role to encourage people to communicate, and it is could be the most wonderful place where amazing story happens. With evolution of units and site plan, we combined both site and living unit together, shaped the building, and much more important, reshape(redistribute) the greenspace.

Dynamic Installation Design based on Geometry and Algorithm March-May 2012 Thesis Work Tutor: Prof. Xu Zhen Independent Work This design thesis focus is to explore the digital design process, trying to re-explore the the connotation logic for a contact from the building itself (including the geometric logic and the logic of construction ). With the help of emerging technologies, the inner space of the building logic can be expressed in a quiet different new way.

In the very beginning, started with exploring the prototype and the geometric login embeded within it.

By testing all the posibilities of variations of prototype, developed the prototype to several variations and also designed interfaces for them to connect each other, and refined them in architectural ways with certain context.

This design thesis also included the mechanical design. The project finally was designed as a pavillion which can transform from a 2-D flat surface to a 3-d structure. There were also some inner logic embeded in this form. 6 legs support the whole structure. When it starts to transform, 3 of them go clockwise, and 3 others go counterclockwise. Thus only with 2 servo motors going opposite directions can control the whole system. (Diagrams showing above)

The Petropolis of Tomorrow: Nutricao Natureza September-November 2012 Academic Design Work Tutor: Neeraj Bhatia Partner: Felema Yemane, Elease Samms Role: Concept, Diagrams, Renderings, Models, Drawings When the physical product of oil is completely erased what will this land be known for? We want our city to outlive its industry; we also want our city to build an awareness of what used to exist in the past.

Our injection into the site will be a trinity between education, industry and environment. Each program will be separated and connected in the appropriate moments.Using infrastructure as the connecter, our moment of transition will not only be roads, but also buildings and landscape.

There are multiple layers of wetland system.

Some of them are isolated as objects to deal with the most toxic wastewater, some of them serev as buffering zone between twe different terrace, some of them are connected as a network to become efficient and resilient wetland system.
