ROLLING WITH IT

by CARLY SIMPSON

There’s a whole lot of goodness packed into every spring roll that Dana Falconberry and Jonathan Boyd sell at area farmers markets.

It star ts with local produce from Lost Lake Farm in Honor, grown by husband-and-wife team Cornell and Carissa Savage. Sweet, earthy carrots; crisp cucumbers; vibrant beets and oh so much more. Then, a tender kiss of mint or basil. And for the saucy finale, choose between creamy peanut or sweet chili.

Jonathan, who has been working in kitchens since high school, found a renewed passion for food during Dana’s fight with cancer last year. “He cooked me through the entire process, which thankfully wasn’t very long,” she says.

Now, in addition to the farmers market circuit, Dana and Jonathan do private dinners and shows—offering multi-course menus, live music and even artwork to hang on your walls. Dana studied songwriting in college and recorded music for more than a decade before leaning into the visual arts, including chainstitching, linoleum block prints and watercolor paintings.

“Sitting down at the end of the day with a home-cooked meal, you can push out the noise. You’re with your person. You’ve got this plate of food you’re sharing. The whole world kind of melts away,” Jonathan says. “You can learn about cultures through food, you can learn about yourself through food, you can try new things and take risks and screw up and then get it right. It’s limitless.”
