Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort: Let the Adventure Begin!

I had the opportunity to speak with Larry and Trisha D., a married couple from Martin County, who recently stayed in one of the 12 furnished cabins at Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort. They described their experience as “very nice and relaxing,” and expressed their excitement to return in the future with their children and extended family members.

“The views of the water were absolutely breathtaking,” Larry recollects, “and being nestled in the heart of nature, seeing the native flora and fauna up close and personal, was incredibly refreshing.” He and Trisha arrived at the resort on

their motorcycle on a Friday night, settling themselves comfortably in their professionally cleaned and meticulously maintained cabin, and were amazed to find that their stress quickly disappeared. The cabin was furnished and stocked with everything they needed, so Trisha explains, “We really only had to bring our clothes and toothbrushes.”

Larry and Trisha took a short walk through the spacious resort and out onto its lighted 100 ft. pier to enjoy a sunset that Trisha describes as, “remarkable.”

The next day, Larry and Trisha took a morning motorcycle ride on the paved roads of the spacious resort, relishing the ½ mile of waterfront views as they passed the 211 full RV hookup sites, large recreation hall, fenced dog park, concrete boat ramp, horseshoe pit, general store, and other attractions. After taking in all that Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort has to offer, the pair explored the Okeechobee

community, enjoying a hearty Southern breakfast before checking out some of the charming local shops. Afterwards, they took the recommendation from the friendly and knowledgeable management team to take a local company’s airboat tour of Lake Okeechobee.

“We saw all types of different birds and there were a few gators, which was neat. It was a great suggestion for something to do. The wildlife was really beautiful,” remembers Trisha.

Larry adds, “Yeah, we felt like we had the concierge experience. It was nice”

The two finished their day back at the Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort, taking a dip in the enclosed, heated swimming pool before cooking up some burgers on one of the resort’s outdoor barbecue grills. “We forgot condiments,” Larry relates, “but we solved that problem easily just by visiting the resort’s community store.”

“We left with more than just that though,” Trisha admits, “they have gifts and things there too…”

“Oh yeah,” Larry laughs, “we just had to get t-shirts.”

The next morning, the two went for a sunrise hike on the Florida Scenic Trail located directly across the street from the resort (Trisha’s idea). “The views were so incredible,” recounts Trisha.

Then, the couple sat on the lighted pier again, this time to do some fishing (Larry’s idea). “The lake really does have the best bass fishing,” affirms Larry.

Later, the pair challenged one another in the resort’s indoor shuffleboard court, then again out at the horseshoe pits. “I won both games,” says Trisha, as Larry shakes his head in response, just outside her line of sight.

Larry and Trisha’s active day ended with a different sort of excitement. They spent the evening at the Seminole Casino Brighton, which is conveniently located just 30 minutes West of the resort. Trisha exclaims, “It was a blast!”

When Monday morning came around, Larry and Trisha were disappointed to have to say goodbye to Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort. Their weekend went by “way too quickly,” and as they watched the “spectacular waterfront views, peaceful scenery, and welcoming RV and outdoor community” grow smaller in their rearview mirror, Larry and Trisha promised one another that they would return for another mini-vacation.

“We had an unforgettable experience. It was a wonderful spot for a quiet, romantic weekend away from the kids,” says Larry.

Trisha heartily agrees with her husband, and adds, “The resort and the surrounding community also have plenty of things for our kids and family to do, so we plan to come back sometime around Thanksgiving. Some of our relatives have RVs, so it’s the perfect place for us all to come together to enjoy a different side of South Florida and to really appreciate the beauty here while we’re in each other’s company. Where Learning and Play Come Together

According to the American Academy of Pediatricians, “The experiences and opportunities offered in early childhood lay the foundation for how children grow, learn, build relationships, and prepare for school.”

The owner and director of Little Cubs Clubhouse, Traci Lawson-Harrell, understands the importance of childhood educational foundations, and believes that some of the most heartfelt lessons occur during everyday moments. Traci is incredibly dedicated to the social and educational development of the children at Little Cubs Clubhouse, providing a program that fosters a child’s natural inclination for exploration and investigation through fun, exible learning experiences. She holds Masters’ Degrees in both Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Studies. Traci also earned a credential as a Florida Advanced Director from the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

One Size Does Not Fit All

Little Cubs Clubhouse’s unique name is tting because, as Traci describes, “It is not a house or a school, but something in between.” Furthermore, just like the variety of species that bear young cubs, preschool-aged children are diverse in their development of learning styles and social skills for a variety of reasons.

Little Cubs Clubhouse is not a traditional home daycare or a structured preschool; rather, it is a merged, hands-on learning community that fosters well-rounded social development. Traci emphasizes, “Parents need to be assured that a preschool or daycare provider knows what their child needs.”

Credentials, training, and experience are necessary and important, but often, larger daycare centers and preschools will not exclusively cater to the individual needs of a child.

Little Cubs Clubhouse is open to all children from ages 2 ½ to 10 years, with a maximum limit of 5 children. Traci

prefers to maintain a smaller population and age range of children so that each child receives differentiated instruction wherein he/she can develop independence, con dence, and a positive sense of self.

“I like to address the social-emotional well-being of a child before education begins,” explains Traci. She goes on to emphasize that a child will not be ready to learn if they are not socialized.

Managing emotions and understanding the feelings of children are Traci’s fortes. “My heart has always gone out to the children that need a little help to t in,” she af rms, continuing, “It’s not just the educational part. I have to focus on the social-emotional part of the child.” Traci uses a program called Conscious Discipline, which teaches adults how to be conscious of what they are saying to children, as well as what behaviors they are modeling.

Little Cubs Clubhouse provides an innovative, nurturing, and stimulating environment where all children thrive. The home environment has inviting rooms for morning routines, music, and dance, plus a space that is converted to a classroom for art and group time activities.

Science & Exploration is an exciting part of each day that takes place on the back patio and outside in the fenced backyard. The setting is complete with art easels, a children’s airplane, and scales for science experiments. And, of course, there are comfortable book areas in every inside room.

Each day at Little Cubs Clubhouse begins with a friendly greeting and small activities until all of the children arrive to eat breakfast together. The morning continues with a pledge to the ag and a “wish you well” routine, plus calendar activities and circle time catered to each child’s readiness level.

After lunch and nap time, the children engage in guided individualized free play. There are a wide variety of activities available for all readiness

levels, and the children can choose from them. “I do my best to cater the free play to each student. It may be worksheets or just learning through play,” states Traci.

Family and Community Matter

Little Cubs Clubhouse does not participate in outside eld trips; instead, Traci rounds up volunteers from the local community, who have undergone complete background checks, to come to the Clubhouse for special events. Traci believes that the only way for a community to get better is to allow young children to thrive. She explains, “I cannot say enough about the community. We are a true, full family.”

Traci relies on donations from the community to keep tuition costs down for the parents. Recently, Child Care Resources of Indian River County donated new bean bag chairs to Little Cubs Clubhouse. Traci exclaims, “The children just love these chairs for book time or just when they need a break!”

Little Cubs Clubhouse welcomes children of all readiness levels to grow in a comfortable, safe environment that will allow them to acquire the skills they need to move onto a larger learning environment. Little Cubs Clubhouse follows the Florida state COVID-19 guidelines and maintains strict allergy precautions.
