Applied Canine Concepts: Where Dogs Come to Learn

Most of us have heard or even uttered the common proverb, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Well, at Applied Canine Concepts, now you can with dogs of all ages and breeds! Applied Canine Concepts is a 10-acre, estatelike, private dog training facility complete with air-conditioned kennels, several shaded turn-outs, and a large, indoor climatecontrolled training facility. Co-founders and trainers, Fabian Robinson, who has been a professional dog trainer for over 35 years, and Gina Bishop maintain a clear and precise training methodology that teaches dogs how to think instead of react.

Interest in pet adoption has boomed during the pandemic, and new owners of rescued pets are not always prepared and/or may not have the resources to train them. Once training is completed, the trainers work exclusively with the owners to assure that the dog blends into the family as anticipated. “With our training,” Gina says, “you will become the safe zone for your dog. You will never yell at or say ‘no’ to him/her again! You are always positive. We teach you how to build an amazing bond with your dog, beyond your wildest imagination.”

Gina emphasizes, “We want the owners to be successful and not waste their money.”

According to the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA), more than 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the United States. Most dogs are not aggressive. In fact, a dog’s behavior is in uenced by their relationship with their owner. “We train each dog differently because they [the dogs] are all individuals just like we are. Dogs need a leader with correct feedback to teach them how to live in our domesticated society,” Gina explains. The trainers’ goal is to train the dog so it doesn’t appear trained; instead, the dog, while still maintaining its personality, just looks like a good dog.

Applied Canine Concepts developed their own “clean slate” program that focuses on “redoing” the relationship with your dog. The program bases the training on guidance and clarity. Gina explains, “If you [the owner] can change your mind about how your dog learns, you can have success. Dogs learn by trial and error of behavior and feeling, not learning from talking or yelling, simply because dogs can’t speak back to you.” The “clean slate” training is done with all breeds of all ages, starting as early as 4 months, and it is for all people.

In 2022, Applied Canine Concepts will expand their existing facility to include 20 additional state-ofthe-art indoor and outdoor kennels. They will also be uploading a series of troubleshooting videos that can be found on their Facebook and Instagram pages. For a fee, subscribers can log in and have access to these videos, which will include training tips, tutorials, and lessons about animal behavior. Fabian and Gina will even be publishing a second book! It is a sequel to Fabian’s other book, Back to Basics: Dog Training by Fabian. The videos and books are great resources, but they do not replace the hands-on training that is offered at the Applied Canine Concepts facility.

Muscle Cra Distillery: We Just Raised the Bar!

The equation is simple... Clean eating + daily exercise = a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle, however, also includes balance. Sometimes, we just want (and need!) to let loose without compromising our hard work! Meet the woman who has the answer to achieving this balance — Grace Gillespie. Grace is the sole owner and operator of Muscle Cra Distillery, which is the rst and only distillery located directly in downtown Stuart… and, it’s 100% women-owned!

Growing up, Grace was immersed in a life of tness. Her dad was a bodybuilder, and her brother and nephew were boxers, so the gym was a comfortable and familiar place for her. Grace’s upbringing sparked her passion for an active, healthy lifestyle accentuated by setting numerous high-achieving goals. “I knew,” Grace a rms, “health and tness [were] my life at an early age.” Grace ran cross country, participated in multiple sports, and eventually became an award-winning tness competitor. She is also a nutritionist, and trainereducated by the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).

Entrepreneurship At Its Best

As Joel Osteen says, “Sometimes we say faith is spelled R-I-S-K. Sometimes, you’ve got to risk if you feel a calling deep down. You’ve got to take that step of faith.” at mindset is exactly what Grace embraced when she created Muscle Vodka. As a trainer, Grace wants her clients to enjoy a balanced, healthy lifestyle without jeopardizing their tness goals. “I told my clients, eat this food, don’t drink that, try this,” explains Grace.

To help her clients achieve their tness goals, Grace decided to take matters into her own hands to create the best option for people who occasionally drink alcohol but want to maintain clean eating habits. She went to work, and for 4 years, she studied the chemical compositions of food and alcoholbased products. And, in July 2022, Grace got her DSP (distilled spirits plant) license and opened the rst distillery in Martin County. She launched Muscle Vodka in 2017 at the annual Mr. Olympia Competition in Las Vegas, which is the most prestigious tness industry showcase event in the world.

“Alcohol is still alcohol, but I wanted to create the best option,” states Grace.

Muscle Vodka, which is produced and bottled at Grace’s Muscle Cra Distillery, is made from just two ingredients: corn and water. It is gluten-free, charcoal ltered, and cra ed using a reverse osmosis process that produces the cleanest form of water possible. e vodka is smooth and great tasting.

Today, Grace’s Muscle Vodka is an o cial partner with many tness industry showcases and tness centers.

Prior to opening Muscle Cra Distillery, Grace owned and operated a gym and juice bar in Cleveland, Ohio. She took her nutritional know-how and opened her second juice bar last December, which is located right inside the Muscle Cra Distillery in Stuart. All of the smoothies and juices on the menu are

completely organic, contain only natural sugars, and are all under 300 calories! You can also choose from acai bowls and other tempting, yet healthy, snacks to satisfy your hunger... without the guilt!

Though not an exact measure, a 20% stock market drop from the most recent high is what we call a “bear market”. It consists of lows, followed by lower lows, with minor highs that don’t reach the previous high.

e Holiday season quickly approaches and with it comes a lot of typical seasonality elements. e stock market is not oblivious to that. In nance, seasonality of the markets is a technical analysis approach that studies the stock market over a calendar year with the intent to establish predictable patterns. "Tis the season to be jolly"? Maybe.

Retail stores typically show strong numbers following the anksgiving holiday and especially a er Black Friday in the U.S. But when concerns over the economy accelerates, consumer spending tends to contract. Nevertheless, shoppers are expected to spend nearly $1trillion on gi s and holiday items this year.

Americans continue to spend amid in ation being at 8.2%. Enthusiasm over the upcoming holiday season is on the rise. A NASDAQ article from last month suggested that retailers expect consumers to spend the same amount of money this holiday season, but for a lesser number of goods. Yes, that means expect fewer presents, because the items you bought last year, for example, will now cost you at least 8.2% more when adjusted for in ation.

According to Salesforce, 37% of U.S. consumers will begin their shopping early to take advantage of deals prior to prices rising. e Dublin based company Accenture estimated that one-third (35%) of shoppers would stick to a holiday budget.

While all these factors may indeed a ect company revenues (therefore creating a stock price rise or decline), the reality of the holiday seasonal trends in the markets may be more associated to factors such as trading volume than anything else.     All things normal, you may see increased volatility in the stock market as we approach anksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, as in years prior. ese uctuations can be largely attributed to the fact that the markets are closed on these days, and for half of Black Friday. Investors will try to get their trades in prior to the market close before the holiday and realize their gains and/or losses as they approach the end of the tax year. With the festivities going on, traders also spend less time trading, and more time enjoying other things such as quality time with loved ones, and less time trading. Yes, traders and investors are people too. Overall, the volume of trades is lower than normal during the holiday season.

Trends are not set in stone. 2022 has been year full of unprecedented shi s in the economy and increased uncertainty in the markets. While analysts are expecting volatility to settle down throughout the end of the year, other economic factors, social con ict, and political pressures will play a signi cant role in consumer sentiment.
