Faith Farm Ministries: Healing Hopelessness rough Faith

Everyone knows that Faith Farm will come pick up your old couch or other furniture and household items that you no longer need! And if you didn’t know, now you do! Most don’t know, however, that when you donate, you are helping to save lives through Faith Farm’s 10-month, faithbased addiction recovery program, which is celebrating its 72nd-year anniversary in 2023.

Okeechobee. Each campus has a church, thri store, and sta of pastors, teachers, and counselors who live on the property. Faith Farm o ers all recovery services free of charge and helps people from all over the country. Students come from all walks of life and range in age from teenagers to people in their 60s.

Faith Farm is a residential, Christ-centered program that provides students with a safe place to live, along with food and clothing. Faith Farm is similar to other 12 step programs in that it is based on Biblical principles, but the program is more intensive and comprehensive. “We’ve taken those principles and gone a little deeper,” Pastor Rick explains. Students are given the tools not just to help them recover, but also to become productive members of the community a er they graduate from the program.

Okeechobee campus’ director, Pastor Lee Jolicoeur, are part of the team that is bringing hope to the hopeless.

“Faith Farm is a unique opportunity for people who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction,” Pastor Rick says, adding, “And it’s so much more than just a drug and alcohol program. It’s really allowing lost and broken people to completely transform their lives from the inside out in a real, meaningful, and personal way.”

Faith Farm was founded in 1951 in Fort Lauderdale by Rev. Garland “Pappy” Eastham, and has now expanded to include two additional campuses in Boynton Beach and

Faith Farm Ministries helps both men and women, but the Okeechobee campus is for men only. Women who are in need join the Boynton Beach campus to participate in the program.

Generally speaking, when students nd themselves at Faith Farm, they have exhausted every option available to them. “O entimes, we are their last ditch e ort for hope in a hopeless world,” Pastor Rick says.

A er graduation, students of the Faith Farm recovery program have a few options. ey can become Servant Leadership Students, which requires a one-year commitment to become part of the team that helps new students. e other option for graduates of the program is to participate in one of two “Omega” programs.

“Omega Work,” available at the Ft. Lauderdale campus, is where participants can get a job but still live on campus so that they can continue to bene t from the accountability and community that Faith Farm o ers.

“Omega School” allows a Faith Farm graduate to apply to school and remain living on the Faith Farm campus while attending school.

ese transitional programs are e ective for those who have completed the program, but who are not quite ready to be on their own. “Accountability is huge in the work we do,” Pastor Rick says, explaining, “We help graduates come up with a good exit plan that includes establishing boundaries in the real world so they don’t fall into old habits.”

How You Can Help

Because they do not charge students who are in the program, Faith Farm Ministries is funded solely by donations and what they call “microindustries.” ese include their thri store operation, bamboo

farming, and handmade custom furniture and woodworking. e majority of their funding comes from donated items being sold at their thri stores. Right now, Okeechobee’s store has beautiful woodwork for sale, including ags, cutting boards, and pieces of furniture.

“Donated furniture is a huge part of what we do, and it’s an easy way for people to help,” Pastor Rick says.

Want to donate furniture? Faith Farm will come to you whether you’re in St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, or Glades counties, and even come to parts of Vero to pick up your unwanted items! Not only do they accept unwanted furniture, but they also accept cars, boats, tools, or any type of household items. Of course, monetary donations are always welcome, and they are tax deductible!

Pastor Rick says being part of the team that helps to heal the hopeless with faith is very gratifying.

“My favorite thing about being involved with Faith Farm is that I get the opportunity to watch God work in men’s lives each and every day,” he comments, adding, “I see them grow from hopelessness to a child of God in ten months. at’s the whole purpose of Faith Farm: to give

people a safe environment where they can come and work on themselves, experience God, and learn some tools to deal with life when returning to the outside world.”
