Both Dimitrios and his Executive Chef, Jerry Dimopoulos, have Greek heritage, so they are able to provide both the big and little components of a genuine Greek meal.

If you’re split between a few options, or you’re looking for an appetizer to share with multiple people, then order the four dip combo ($13.95). You’ll receive a generous portion of deliciously uffy pita bread with 4 large bowls of classic Greek dips: tzatziki, hummus, tirokafteri, and melizanosalata.

The thick, creamy tzatziki was ultra-refreshing, light, and airy. It had just enough of a bright tang to keep things interesting.

The garlic and tahini shone in the hummus, giving it a satisfying classic avor. Of the four dips, this one is most likely to be the crowd pleaser, as Abby and I found it to be mild and straightforward.

The tirokafteri, with its cream cheese, feta, and roasted red peppers, offered some spiciness. The feta tempered the buffalolike heat with its salty and cheesy notes, while the fresh peppers rounded out the heaviness of this thick dip.

The melizanosalata was a mixture of roasted eggplant, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic. It had a unique, smoky avor, which was balanced nicely by the tang of the lemon.

Abby adores lamb, so for her entrée, she selected the Australian lamb souvlaki plate ($16.95). Served with a side salad, tzatziki with pita, and choice of rice pilaf, French fries, or feta fries, this sizable entrée will most de nitely sate your hunger! Abby said, “This is a must have! The tender, juicy meat is cooked perfectly and tastes delicious with its seasonings. You can dip it in the tzatziki for an extra burst of avor, but it honestly shines just ne on its own too.”

A perfect choice for those who want a little bit of everything is the Mezze Plate ($13.95), which comes with dolmades (i.e. grape leaves), falafel (i.e. chickpea fritters), spanakopita (i.e. spinach pie), hummus, a side salad, and tzatziki with pita bread.

The dolmades were tender and tangy, with a lovely lemon avor that delighted my palate. They were my favorite item on the plate! Meanwhile, the falafel had a super crunchy outside with a soft and pillowy interior that tasted rich and savory. The most surprising element on the plate was the spanakopita, which I enjoyed in nitely more than expected. The ratio of spinach lling to pastry exterior was absolutely perfect. Each bite featured not only the soft, aky outside pastry, but also the rustic, herbaceous inside spinach and feta mixture. It was obviously handcrafted and freshly baked, which I greatly appreciated.

Finally, the salad was a traditional rendition, with crisp romaine lettuce, juicy red tomatoes, cool cucumbers, crunchy red onions, crumbled feta, genuine Kalamata olives, and a housemade Greek vinaigrette. It was a welcome addition to the plate, as it offered a break from the heavier fritters, pita bread, and pastry.

A unique dessert to try is the baklava ice cream ($4.75). Thick and creamy vanilla bean ice cream was swirled with honey and crumbled baklava (which contains walnuts) to create a balanced Greek-American sweet treat. It was sweet and nutty, and Abby declared, “I could de nitely eat a bunch of this on any given day!”

If you’re not in the mood for a cold dessert, then try the kourabiedes cookies ($4.75), of which there are two varieties: shortbread and almond. The shortbread had a lighter, more subtle sweetness with a crumbly crunch. The almond version, on the other hand, was buttery, soft, and nutty. Either choice is yummy and will satisfy your cravings, it just depends on how much sweetness you want.

Ithink I write this same type of column every Christmas, but I can’t help it. You know how the old adage goes, pick your battles, when it comes to your children. Well I’m going to do one better. Pick your battles at any other time of the year, except for the holidays. Children are self-centered little people who have little understanding or respect for your time or money. ey want everything, and they expect you to make sure they get it. is type of attitude gets on parents nerves, and understandably so, but they’re only being kids. ey are hard-wired to whine, demand, insist, and all of it without any concern about your problems. ey don’t care about the rising cost of food or gasoline. Now, any other time of the year I might encourage you to make rules and follow them, but I like to give kids a free pass at Christmas. A er all, they only have six or seven years to believe in Santa, if you’re lucky, and only until they have to go out and make a living before they understand that money doesn’t grow on trees. But now, these little innocent children imagine the fun they might have playing with every toy ever made, and there’s no end to their imagination. Should you go broke trying to keep the magic in

I’m not saying break the bank. Magic isn’t only about toys under the tree. It’s about time spent together, building a gingerbread house, or baking cookies, loading them with sprinkles, and yes, giving them sugar, even if it’s only this one time of year. It’s about buying the tree, making hot chocolate, setting out food for the reindeer, and dressing the elves each night. It’s about staying up much later than you ever thought you could, to build bikes and playhouses, and falling into bed only to be awakened an hour later by eager children to see what Santa brought them. Mostly it’s about no arguing between you and your spouse. Let them sleep with sugar plums dancing in their heads.

Too much excitement, mixed with too much sugar is a recipe for disaster, but it’s only for one very special day, and don’t we owe it to our children to let them be kids, and to believe that miracles happen?

For What it’s Worth, I say, hold your temper, pray for patience, let the house be a mess, and let the kids whoop and holler all day long. Tomorrow comes soon enough, and rules can be enforced then. Try to remember what it was like when you were a kid who couldn’t fall asleep because you were too excited. If you were yelled at, I’m sorry for you, but don’t do that to your kids. If you were raised with parents as excited as you were, let yourself go back in time and be that child again. Your children will thank you for it.
