Casual Classics and Surprising Specialties

For 2PM on a Tuesday, The Perch at Crane Watch Club was thriving with guests enjoying a late lunch, including Abby and me. We took that as a very good sign (and, spoiler alert: we were right).

You can choose to dine at either a table or the full bar inside, or you can sit outside on the newly renovated patio overlooking the green. The indoor space has multiple televisions on the walls and surrounding the bar area, so it is a great place to sit back and enjoy a delicious meal as you cheer on your favorite team.

Abby and I sat inside and noticed that the restaurant was promoting their new homemade flavored chips and French fries, so we decided to give them a try. For either the chips or fries, you can choose from multiple flavored seasonings: salt & vinegar, smokey BBQ, cheddar, blazin’ buffalo, or sour cream & onion. You can even mix two flavors in one! Abby and I ordered a basket of salt & vinegar chips ($4) and a basket of fries with the cheddar and smokey BBQ seasonings mixed together ($4).

One of the common problems with homemade chips and fries is greasiness, but The Perch’s versions were anything but that! Both the chips and the fries had a fresh, homemade flavor with a tantalizing crunch, and the seasonings really added that extra “wow” factor.

The chips were delicious, but the fries were my favorite, particularly the cheddar-flavored ones. The fries are thickcut, with plenty of savory, salty potato flavor, and the seasoning adds a nice edge over just plain ol’ regular fries.

Abby and I definitely recommend that you try the homemade chips or fries (or both!), as they’re a nice starter and/or complement to your main course. Beware, though, you won’t be able to stop picking at them... they’re addicting!

Abby ordered the shrimp Louis salad ($15) and recommends that anyone who enjoys succulent shrimp do the same. The salad features fresh iceberg wedge lettuce, jumbo chilled shrimp, juicy tomatoes, bright green avocado, and a cognac Louis dressing, which Abby says tastes, “almost like a thousand island dressing, but not as heavy. It’s good!”

I selected the CWC Power Bowl ($16), which comes with crunchy wok vegetables, slightly nutty quinoa, and your choice of grilled chicken or mahi-mahi with choice of sweet chili, citrus ponzu, or cumin tomato salsa. If you’re looking for a healthy meal that will literally power you through the day, then you have to try it! It’s very flavorful with the sweet chili sauce, which has a slow heat that doesn’t overwhelm, and the blackened mahi-mahi tastes incredible with all of the other elements of the dish. The CWC power bowl is not something you can find on just any menu, so I highly recommend it for something different.

We finished our meal with a thick slice of homemade carrot cake ($7). Carrots, walnuts, and sweet cream cheese meld together beautifully. The cake is balanced with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, and the result is a refreshing, yet filling, dessert that isn’t overly sweet.

A hidden gem on the Manatee Pocket, Pirate’s Cove Resort & Marina is a charming combination-hotel, marina, and restaurant/bar that’s tucked away behind a Port Salerno neighborhood. As soon as you pull in, you feel as if you’ve entered a more relaxing and utterly enchanting world.

But, you don’t have to be a guest at the 50-room hotel to experience the old Southern charm! Anyone is welcome to dine or drink at the resort’s upstairs restaurant/bar, Pirate’s Loft, that overlooks the water, as well as the downstairs, waterfront Tiki Pirate Bar. And, everybody can take advantage of the 180-boat rack storage facility or 50 deep water slips at the full-service marina (for both gas and diesel vessels). The resort even boasts a public bait and tackle shop and a gift shop! You can find it all at Pirate’s Cove Resort & Marina, and you’ll find it spellbinding. Abby and I simply dined at the Pirate’s Loft Restaurant, but we were mesmerized by all that the resort has to offer. It’s the ultimate one-stop shop for events (up to 300 guests) and provides a uniquely relaxing, yet polished experience that’s unlike anything else in the area.

One of the most exciting details about the Pirate Loft Restaurant and the Tiki Pirate Bar is that their menu is updated each day to include only the freshest ingredients. That’s right, you will find the highest quality produce and seafood at Pirate’s Cove (among their other prime and delectable options)!

If you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing appetizer, then we suggest the risotto balls ($10). Creamy risotto and luscious cheese are pankobreaded, then hand-rolled, flash fried, and served with a classic marinara dipping sauce. An elevated version of mozzarella sticks, the risotto balls have a satisfyingly crunchy outside and tantalizing velvety inside.

More of a seafood fan? You can’t go wrong with the steamed littleneck clams ($12), which are served in a delicate and delicious white wine sauce with garlic and herbs. Abby says, “They are very fresh, cooked well, and complemented beautifully by the flavorful broth.” I can honestly say that I have never seen Abby finish an appetizer, but this review was different… she finished each and every clam!

You absolutely, positively cannot go to Pirate’s Loft Restaurant without sampling their she-crab soup ($6 cup, $9 bowl)! Firstly, the cup genuinely looks like the size of a bowl, so you’re definitely getting value for your dollar.

Secondly, the soup has such an incredible, satisfying flavor that it may very well leave you speechless… it did me! Lump sweet crab, heavy cream, fresh mushrooms, sherry, and cheese -need I say more?

Abby took personable owner Faith Moynihan’s recommendation and ordered the snapper piccata entrée ($27). The large, fresh red snapper filet is pan-seared with cherry tomatoes, capers, and artichoke hearts, then served over a bed of linguine in a light lemon butter sauce. “I highly recommend this dish,” Abby says, continuing, “It’s the freshest piece of fish that I have had in a long time, flaky to perfection. I love the sauce with it too!”

I selected the mahi Rueben ($17) and it absolutely exceeded my expectations! I could taste every element of the sandwich, from the juicy

Each bite began with a delightful crunch from the toasted bread and ended with everything slowly melting in my mouth. The mahi Rueben at Pirate’s Loft is most certainly my favorite adaptation in the area so far!

The dessert menu has plenty of mouthwatering options, but we finally chose a Florida classic, Key lime pie ($8).

The pie’s exquisite tartness is accented by a sweet raspberry sauce and dollop of whipped cream – yum! Abby went as far to say, “It’s perfect.”

For scrumptious food and gorgeous views, visit Pirate’s Loft Restaurant and Tiki Pirate Bar! You can choose to dine in one of two dining rooms, outside on the covered deck, or downstairs by the water. They host local musicians for live music on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, plus offer happy hour specials every day from 3PM-6PM (featuring $6 appetizers!). You’ll feel the old Southern Florida charm no matter when you go, and it’ll be well worth it.

Pirate’s Loft Restaurant and Tiki Pirate Bar are located inside Pirate’s Cove Resort & Marina at 4307 SE Bayview Street in Stuart. The restaurant is open Sundays from 8:30AM-9PM, MondaysThursdays from 11AM-9PM, Fridays from 11AM-10PM, and Saturdays from 8:30AM-10PM. This causes competition about which partner was correct, who is more intelligent, and things go downhill from there. Also, couples are looking for instant answers, immediate solutions, without taking into consideration how much fun it used to be to really listen to your partner’s hopes and dreams, and support them.

Women also have the notion that their husbands are bumps on a log, uninterested in romance, unwilling to put in the energy needed to sweep them off their feet, such as they have witnessed on shows like The Bachelor. Ladies, this is 52

not real life. I don’t know this for sure, but I am willing to bet that most of the statements made by the bachelors have been scripted, because almost no man, and none that I have had the pleasure of meeting, embraces all things romantic like the show depicts.

Hallmark is another fantasy show written for women who believe that their husbands should come home from a hard day of work, plucking flowers from the yard, whispering sweet nothings into their partner’s ear, while she just happens to be dressed in perfectly fitting clothing, on a perfectly fit body. Men who watch television tend to prefer adventure shows, wilderness shows about extreme camping and overloading, and sports, much to the dismay of their wives. After watching shows like that, it is little wonder that the man isn’t ready to snuggle on the couch with a bowl of popcorn. He’s all jacked up thinking he needs to slay the dragon or jump on his horse to parts unknown.

In other words, we often expect our partners to be an extension of us, men wanting a woman who can change a tire in a pinch, and women wanting men who notice that there are new slipcovers on the couch. It’s just not reality. We are two different genders, and we might as well say two different species, both believing that their way is the only way. Yet, if we reflect back in time, we nearly knocked ourselves out trying to date/marry the exact same people

who are now driving us crazy. We should really make an attempt to accept our spouse as he or she is, and realize that the programs we get lost in on television are just the imagination of a good writer, whose production company has had the foresight to hire good actors. Real life is not fantasy.

Real life is hard, it makes us weary, our husbands/wives can be exhausting, and impossible to deal with, not because they don’t love us, but because we often want them to change into something they’re not. Imagine how it would be without your spouse, really without him/her. Then imagine it over days, weeks, months.

For What It’s Worth, those nagging annoyances would vanish and you’d be left with memories that would make you weep with sadness at the loss of them. Now look again. The person you promised to love forever is right before your eyes. Give them a kiss and tell them how much you love them, then think of this. One day one of you will no longer be here.

Bigger is not Always Better

I received a phone call the other day from a prospective client. She was concerned because of the lack of attention she was receiving from her Financial Advisor. I asked her a few questions and realized why this was happening. It made me think that her situation was no different than many of you who might be reading this. Her account was at one of the major brokerage firms we all know. The lack of attention she was getting was not her fault. It happens quite often at the major brokerage firms and for good reason.

Brokerage firms set minimum asset requirements on their advisors for them to be compensated. The advisor in this relationship was not compensated because the relationship size was less than $250,000. These firms set minimum relationship sizes on their accounts and if that minimum is not met then the client is usually directed to a call center where they may speak to a different person on any given day. To me this
