Mortgage rates are currently hanging out in the 6-6.5% then expected to taper off towards the end of the year. In 2022, rates increased seven times! So it may not be a bad idea to lock in a lower rate now. Until inflation is moderated, it is expected that interest rates will continue to see some upward pressure. Lock in your rate now and have the option to refinance if rates drop. Tip: be sure to work with a trusted loan officer when refinancing. Think about this…refinancing a 5% interest rate with 26 years left on your mortgage to a 4% interest rate with 30 years will cause you to pay an additional $13,000 of interest on the loan.
