More time spent at home can be a good thing, but sometimes our surroundings appear differently than they have in the past. That fence that was new 20 years ago looks a bit dilapidated all of a sudden. Or, you start to think that perhaps updated pavers for the walkway would be a noticeable improvement. Too, an overdue kitchen or bathroom remodel can certainly help with home value… or how about just starting over with new construction? For all of these home improvements and more, Guilbe (pronounced “gillbee”) Construction does it all!

Real estate investing entails the buying, remodeling, and selling of residential properties. This process is also known as “flipping” homes, a concept that became wildly popular with the stem of popular television series such as Flip This House and Flip or Flop. Erika is still involved in real estate investment, and this experience led her to earn her CGC license, which allows her to build, repair, and remodel any type of building, commercial or residential, in the state of Florida.

Owned and operated by Certified General Contractor (CGC) Erika Guilbe, Guilbe Construction offers dependable, professional, and honest service at very competitive rates.

Guilbe Construction began about a year ago, primarily providing Westlake area residents with outdoor renovations such as fencing, pavers, and screening.

This sector of the business is handled

by Erika’s husband, Jeffrey, who is the primary contact for outdoor construction. travel farther North or South for larger contracts, such as new construction.

Erika says, “We don’t do much advertising, most of our business is from customer referrals.”

The construction industry has certainly experienced tough times due to the supply chain. Unfortunately, materials are on back order or are simply not available at all. Erika admits it has been a challenge, but takes a proactive approach with her customers. The Bella comes with your choice of chicken or eggplant, which is then topped with sweet roasted red peppers, hot capicola, melted imported provolone cheese, and rich blue cheese dressing. You almost have to unhinge your jaw to take your first bite, as the thick sandwich is generously stuffed with its ingredients! It’s cheesy, with just enough spice from the capicola, and the eggplant is mild and lightly breaded.

Abby declared this sandwich as a “must-order item.”

Antonio’s is known for their Italian sausage, so The Vincenzo panini was the perfect choice for Abby and me to try it. It’s made using scrumptiously savory, crunchy ciabatta bread that’s smeared with a slightly salty black olive paste, then loaded with tender-cooked broccoli rabe and your choice of mild or hot sausage. The mild sausage has a slight heat that’s cut by flavorful spices and the right ratio of salt.

The olive spread, with a distinctive earthiness, complements the nutty broccoli rabe well.

If you’re looking for lighter fare, then try The Milano salad — a lovely arrangement of fresh mixed greens, crisp, sliced pears, creamy gorgonzola, and sweet, toasted pecans that comes with a side of tangy honey mustard dressing.

authentic, homemade Italian dishes that are pre-made and available to warm up for quick, convenient takeout or, if you have more time, dine-in at one of the market’s two charming café-style tables. All of these meals, including the sandwiches, paninis, and salads, are available for catering service – perfect for the upcoming Easter and Passover holidays! Ordering catered food from Antonio’s Italian Market is essentially like bringing a real Italian into your home as a personal chef, as many of the recipes have been passed down from generation to generation of the Panzarino family (I mean, can you get any more Italian than that name?!).

I cannot recommend Antonio’s freshly-baked focaccia highly enough… it is with full and complete sincerity that I tell you that this bread is hands-down the absolute best that I have ever had the pleasure to taste since first moving to South Florida 3 years ago. I mean, seriously, I will drive to Antonio’s for that focaccia no matter how much traffic there is and no matter how long it takes me to get there.

It was pure, unadulterated bliss on my tongue, with a perfectly crunchy outside, über soft, pillowy inside, rustic seasonings, and sweet, slightly tangy, tomatoes on top to balance all of the rich flavors. I honestly felt like I was transported to the Italian countryside as I savored it.

Meanwhile, Abby was floored by the eggplant parmesan, saying, “This is not your run-of-the-mill eggplant parm… the eggplant is thick, but not mushy or greasy, and the flavor of the homemade, chunky, slightly sweet sauce with it ties everything together. I would definitely order this again… it’s just so good!” She let me try a bite, but she enjoyed it so much that she kept the rest for herself! I didn’t argue, so long as I got to keep the focaccia… and, as you’ll soon read, Antonio’s pizza.

I haven’t been able to find pizza in South Florida like the pizza up home in the PA, NJ, and NY areas… that is, until I went to Antonio’s Italian Market. Their square-cut slices legitimately made my eyes misty with happy tears when I took my first bite. Again, I will 100% travel to Antonio’s, no matter the time or distance it takes, to enjoy their pizza, because it’s truly a diamond in the rough. It’s not overly complicated, it’s not fancy, but it tastes absolutely divine, just like it does up home, with simple, straightforward, slightly sweet sauce, just the right amount of rich cheese, and a somehow both soft and crispy crust. If you’re from the Northeast, then I can almost guarantee that you will love Antonio’s pizza just as much as I do.

Abby and I had never before tried chicken contadina, but now that we have had the version at Antonio’s, I don’t know that I can ever have it anywhere else. With rich, bold flavors, this rustic dish is sure to delight anyone and everyone. The word “contadina” roughly translates to “peasant girl” or “farmer’s wife” in Italian, so chicken contadina is essentially, according to numerous online articles, chicken that is cooked in a country farmer’s or peasant’s style. Gina attests, “It is made exactly the way you get it in Italy. You won’t find this just anywhere, so a lot of people come in here for it.” Thin, ultra-juicy chicken breast is accompanied by succulent roasted rosemary potatoes, earthy mushrooms, and tender onions in a savory wine sauce with just a hint of sweetness. The first bite is wholly satisfying, and you can tell that this homemade dish has been crafted with genuine love and passion. Abby and I both highly recommend it, especially if you’ve never before had the chance to try it.

There is so much good to say about Antonio’s Italian Market. Abby and I ate even more food there, including fresh escarole and beans that reminded me of my own Italian grandfather’s cooking, bucatini in a light clam sauce generously loaded with jumbo shrimp, shelled clams, and cherry tomatoes, a softball-sized rice ball, a lusciously creamy penne alla vodka, and a refreshing eggplant Napoleon stack that’s perfect for vegetarians. Then, there were the desserts we sampled: Bombolinis (a/k/a cream-filled Italian doughnuts) that have just the right amount of sweetness and an ultra-rich hazelnut chocolate mousse that lovers of chocolate and Nutella will absolutely adore. I want to say more about all of these amazing dishes, but I only have so much room to write! Suffice it to say that you’d do well to order any or all of the food that Abby and I relished at Antonio’s Italian Market.

en. They’re enough to drive us crazy.

It’s not that they’re so complicated; in fact, in my opinion, they are less complex than we women, and that may actually be the problem.

Men generally, unless they’re manipulating you, and I’m not talking about men with hidden agendas, are not thinking/ conversing/planning or plotting on a deep level. For the most part, at least in my experience dealing with the personalities of men coming into the office, they are fairly transparent. If you ask them if they think you’ve gained a few pounds, they’ll usually tell you, or be silent, which, let’s face it, speaks louder than words. If you ask them about their day, they don’t have much to say, if you go to long lengths to tell them some gossip about the neighbors, and then wait for a response, you might get a few grunts, but nothing that you would interpret to say their interest has peaked and they’re ready for a night of discussion.

In other words, men for the most part, live a simple life. They go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch television, maybe throw a ball around with the kids, and go to bed, only to repeat this regimen day after day.

Women, on the other hand, are experts in the art of conversation.

They can memorize any story they hear, and regurgitate back verbatim. This is an art. They get the details so accurately, it’s as if they were reading a teleprompter, but their audience, especially if it is their husband or boyfriend, is not necessarily impressed. Men want the bottom line. Men get lost with all the details, and their minds wander to something else, anything else. How many times have you seen your guy, space out, only to have to reel him back in? How many times have you uttered the words, “Are you listening to me?” The answer is no, they are not listening, not really. They want to, they mean to, but they just can’t. I don’t think they lack the ability to have a long attention span, because if it has to do with sports, or finance, they have memorized every statistic and can speak about them intelligently. I think it has to do with wiring. I don’t believe for one second that men and women are wired in the same manner, and no amount of science can change my mind.

But, and this is the exception to the rule, men do have the ability

to pay the utmost attention if they are after something, like a job, or a woman.

Remember back to when you were first dating your husband, all the long talks that went into the night, how attentive he was, how caring, how he hung on your every word? Now, think about tonight. See what I’m talking about?

For What It’s Worth, I don’t think men are faking it when they’re in a new relationship, I just think that after a while, when the newness wears off, they become comfortable and they don’t have to try as hard. That may seem like a bad thing, but it might just be a good thing. Comfortable men are usually happy men. Like the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for.
