Welcome to the Pride Issue of LVGN‟s Little Black Book. I would like to thank everyone for making the Little Black Book so popular. We are still the highest ranking Las Vegas LGBT media site in Vegas. We‟re actually in the top 100,000 sites in the U.S, according to Alexa.com. Many of our readers may have noticed we made an upgrade to Las Vegas Gay News.com. We‟re still keeping the principle of keeping it simple but made the layout look a lot sharper. Our April issue is actually titled our Pride Issue. In order to keep our content current this issue will be on stands for about five weeks. This is so that I can have the Pride and AFAN Aids Walk photos in our May issue. Both events are on the last week of April, which is past our deadline. Also, I think placing those photos in our June issue is not current because of the amount of time that will pass. I looked at the events we had for the beginning of May and decided that this would be the best way. Just posting those photos on the web is not really showing our support. That was the issue with the Red Dress Event in February, where we sponsored the prize money for the Red Dress Contest. The event was held at the end of February and showing them in April would not be best for our current event photos. Last month, I made the decision to delay the LVGN‟s Next Cover Model contest. I still plan on doing the contest later. The issue was the amount of readers that sent me x-rated and/or bad camera phone shots. Instead, I will go and find random members of our community and shoot pictures of them for the lineup. Things will run smoother if I do it this way. If you follow LVGN on Twitter/Facebook/MySpace, I messaged about the whole thing and finally at the last minute I made my decision. Las Vegas Pride and AFAN‟s Aids Walk are the two big event„s happening in Vegas this month. LVGN is proud to now be an official media sponsor of AFAN. Hopefully next year LVGN as well as the LGBT publication, Night Beat, will be sponsors of LV Pride. Due to contractual restrictions put in place by other LGBT-focused media sponsors, they are only allowed one local LGBT media sponsor… These restrictions have been in place for the last three years even though we still donate the ad space.

Page 6

My personal opinion on the issue is that no matter who the official sponsor is, Gay Pride is for rallying our community together. Having a Pride organization sign a „block-out‟ sponsorship deal that is only focused towards one LGBT media outlet, is not very prideful. That changes Pride into more of a business deal instead of an event that is put on to bring all aspects of the LGBT community together. On a lighter note, I would like to invite everyone out to the Fruit Loop After Pride Festival. LVGN and our partners 93.1 The Party, have teamed up with the businesses there to host the event. LVGN is actually the first ones in years to get all the businesses in the loop to support the same event there. Thank you so much, Howard (The Buffalo), Kay (Freezone), Wes (GetBooked), and Paul and Jerry (Piranha & 8 1/2). The entertainment lined-up is International Recording Artist, Kristine W and also DJ Escape. Not many „new‟ Las Vegans know this but she is a local. So I hope to see everyone there after Pride is over. The festivities will include: Dunk your favorite porn star and also a sneak peak at some of the acts from the Onyx Theatre. Many of the bars in Vegas are having their own Pride festivities. The Eagle & Lipstick will have a free liquor/ beer bust special. Also, Escape will have a free shuttle service from LV Pride to their bar. That‟s a good choice for the boozy gays. I would like to welcome the new members of the LVGN family: Escape Lounge, AFAN and the Samosa Factory. The Samosa Factory is an Indian Restaurant located on West Sahara only a couple of blocks up from Escape Lounge. Rick, the owner of Samosa Factory is doing something right because the smell alone is enough to make you drool, when you walk into the restaurant. Well I‟m running out of room here so I‟m going to end my letter for this month. Hope to see you all out. Don‟t Drink and Drive for Pride or you may become Boozy Bitch of the Month. The only thing Is L.V.M.P.D. are the ones who will take that shot of you.

NEVADA‘S FIRST LEGAL MALE HOOKER: MOVED TO DO PORN IN CALI Markus, the first ever legal male prostitute in Nevada is no longer on the menu at the Shady Lady Ranch. He started the sausage sale this past January and after servicing just 10 women, he has moved to become an off-screen superstar. The owner of Shady Lady states, “It was a mutual decision and Markus, the former Marine, is returning to porn.” Internet comments say that you can soon find him chewing man a** on Corbin Fisher.com Dick will still be the house special at Shady Lady, though. They have already found a new sausage distributor, who goes by the name of Y. Not. Yes Ladies, Y Not? Why not waste the gas, time, and money to go and drive up to Shady Lady. The reason because it is so hard for you to find a cute, slightly intoxicated frat boy on the strip.

LVGA3 PRESIDENT STEPS DOWN The president of the Las Vegas Gay Athletics (to the third power), recently resigned for issues regarding the current secretary/ treasurer of the organization. Details on the decision have been disclosed but sources say it has to do with „bad decisionsâ€&#x; made by the treasurer and no accurate report of his transactions. Past board members who stepped down for related issues call for the entire of Board of LVGA3 to step down.

YOU

BETTER WALK!

Aid for AIDS of Nevada, otherwise known as AFAN is the oldest and largest AIDS service organization in the state of Nevada. AFAN provides support and advocacy for adults and children living with and/ or affected by HIV/AIDS. They work to reduce the fear, prejudice, and stigma associated with the disease through correctly educating the community about it and hopefully reducing the rate of infection. Since 1984, when it was founded AFAN has provided direct client service programs, food programs, prevention and education programs, and community outreach. Nearly three thousand men, women, and children infected with HIV are registered as clients with the agency. AFAN‟s mission statement does a wonderful job of summing up what their agency is really all about. “It is the mission of our client service programs to enhance the physical health and psychosocial wellness of the individuals we serve, while promoting their dignity and improving the quality of their lives. Every year for the past twenty years, AFAN has put together and led the „AIDS Walk Las Vegas‟ which raises funds to support all the wonderful services they provide. Everyone is welcome to come out and walk either as an individual or as a team. The number of people and sponsors, who come out to walk has grown every year. Last year over $500,000 was raised and over 8,000 people walked. Over 250 corporate and community teams raised 70%of the total funds collected. Among those teams were some of Southern Nevada‟s leading corporations such as MGM Mirage, Penn & Teller Challenge, Macy‟s, Focus Property Group, M.A.C Cosmetics, UNLV, Wells Fargo, United Healthcare, and many more. LVGN will be there this year in full support of AFAN and all of those who they can help. Thanks to new therapies, some infected are living longer lives. However, new treatments do not work for everyone and HIV is still spreading at an alarming rate. Just think about those who have HIV/ AIDS and fight the fight everyday. Over half a million already have lost the fight and died in the United States alone. Join the rest of Las Vegas and LVGN, at the walk on April 25, 2010.

Page 12

Here are the faces behind the name. The employees and volunteers of Las Vegasâ€&#x; AFAN, located at 701 Shadow Lane. We walk to help them. A member of LVGN (Nugget) volunteers for their art appreciation class every Thursday afternoon. Showing that everyone in our community, positive or not, should help organizations like AFAN.

KNOW WHERE TO PARK WHEN VISITING THE LOOP. Parking is still not recommended in most lots surrounding the „Fruit Loop„. The parking issue for the Loop has actually become worse for those who do not know where to park. If you‟re not one of the lucky few with a reserved spot or an early bird who gets great parking in front of your favorite bar. You will more than likely be towed when parking in any surrounding parking areas.

DO NOT PARK IN ANY PLAZA SURROUNDING THE LOOP The plaza owners have now, since the „recession‟, made a co-op deal with the tow companies. Most Las Vegans have friends that have fallen prey to this tactic from these companies to earn revenue. The tow companies actually come out in a convoy to tow everyone they see parked in the plazas. Therefore, LVGN suggests you utilize the parking acquired for the Fruit Loop. Driving south on Paradise there is a concrete parking lot on the left once you pass Get Booked and Piranha & 8 ½. The entrance is at the end of the chain-link fence. There is only one entrance to this parking lot so there is only one exit. Which means if you pass the gate you have to drive around and try again. The lot is open only as needed. FriSat in the evening and on special events. The entire lot is actually rented which runs about $5K a month. The rent is completely paid for by the owners of Piranha & 8 ½. So make sure to go inside and buy a drink to help alleviate those costs for the owners.

Call this the Age of the Slacker. The Era of the Irresponsible. The Epoch of the Negligent. I am frequently aghast at the seemingly large percentage of people who squeak through life by showing By Tom Moilanen up late (if at all), failing to follow through, or just plain not holding up their end of the bargain. It runs through society like diarrhea on crank, a lucid testimony to an overall circling of the drain. I‟m thrilled that I won‟t be around fifty years hence to see what has become of the country that I once thought had a chance. Disclaimers aside, I need to wriggle out of something that appears to be my fault. Time to shift the blame, pass the buck, and dodge the bullet. I may even spank the monkey, at least metaphorically. (Wait a second. That is a metaphor. But much of this is masturbation anyway, so why not be up front about it? Or down below, as may be the case.) I had nothing to do with the convoluted mess known as a “layout” in last month‟s issue. Assuming you‟re not a product of the Clark County School District and could actually read the piece on your own, you probably noticed that several lines of text didn‟t make it to the margin. A couple were chopped, left to hang like a circumcision gone awry. A few re-appeared later, dangling from paragraphs to which they do not belong. The whole thing looked like a third grade English project after someone brought a bong to show-and-tell. Writers are liable for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and above all, content. Editors should be on the prowl to spot and fix mechanical problems from careless hacks, and perhaps trim superfluous copy. But what do you do when Gutenberg gets into the grog? When the crew in the design department reads like the roster from Opportunity Village? When the chicken coop is guarded not by a fox, but a direct descendent of Helen Keller? In this case, the architect submitted a fairly secure blueprint. But the contractor put the garage door on the roof. When you see a byline in any publication, you pretty much connect that which follows to the person whose name appears above. But that‟s sort of like blaming bad meatloaf on the waitress. Page 16

I‟ve been writing this pop journalism drivel for the better part of two decades, and the routine never changes: Once I hit “send,” I cross my fingers, eyes, and testicles in an odd fusion of confident desperation that the finished product bears some resemblance to the original. Might as well hand over my IRA to the mojo man. There are some terrific writers out there – Dan Savage and Michael Alvear come to mind – whose stuff has a particularly gay bent and appears in predominantly queer publications. I‟ve never spotted any grotesque (or minute, for that matter) errors in the final edit, but surely they must suffer the same rational paranoia, unless the syndicate that runs their columns is so reputably consistent that they have a luxury to which I‟m not privy. Conversely – not to mention sadly – you can pick up a local rag in most any city and find absolutely terrible writing. You would think that editors everywhere would either demand a re-write, or just chuck the whole works. But nope, more often than not, this garbage makes its way to the printer and is reproduced for all to see. It‟s an affront, not only to those who take pride in their work, but to gay people in general who hold high the bar when it comes to artistic expression. Maybe that‟s why genuinely gifted gay writers work for largely hetero operations. Those that are exclusively gay are often intrinsically second-rate. Perhaps I joined the legions of loafers by not owning up to that which bears my name, but, like most any enterprise, this is a collaborative effort. The man behind the curtain is just as important as the man in front of it, and if either continually fumbles, you might as well close the show. As for America 2060, I‟ll take my refund now. Page 17

KRISTI March 2010: Kristine W scores her 15th No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart, as "The Power of Music" featuring Big Daddy Kane ascends 2-1. The performer is now tied with Mariah Carey for third-most toppers. Only Madonna (40) and Janet Jackson (19) have more No. 1s.The Power of Music is Kristine‟s first studio album in five years. It has already proven its power on the dance floor yielding five consecutive Billboard #1s. “Walk Away”, “The Boss”, “Never”, “Love is the Look”, and “Be Alright” all landed at the top spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play List in 2009. The title track was released Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 with remixes by Groove Police, Wideboys, Tony Moran, Virgo Brothers, Sweet Team and Joe Gauthreaux. The single debuted at #31 on January 30th and quickly escalated up the Billboard charts to become the sixth consecutive single from Kristine‟s The Power of Music album to hit the top spot. It was Kristine‟s idea to add a rap by Big Daddy Kane to “The Power of Music” single. “I met Kane in Washington DC two years ago. We were lobbying for artists‟ performance rights. „The Power of Music‟ was the perfect opportunity for us to work together because we both share the passion to fight for music.” Even the music video for the single, directed by Mike Ruiz (a celebrity photographer who regularly appears on television‟s America‟s Next Top Model and Rupaul's Drag Race) is showing its power. In addition to tying Ms. Carey‟s record, Kristine W holds the world‟s record for Most Consecutive #1 Billboard Club Hits. In 2004, she surpassed Madonna and Janet Jackson‟s record of seven #1 songs in a row. In 2005, Kristine W broke her own record with the release of “Wonder of It All”, her ninth consecutive #1.

A fourth generation entertainer hailing from Pasco, Washington. After winning the title of Miss Washington and placing first in the talent competition at the Miss America pageant, Kristine headlined her own show at the Las Vegas Hilton. She won several 'Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year' awards and was officially sanctioned as the entertainer who performed more live shows at the Las Vegas Hilton than any other performer in its history including Elvis.

The award led to June 28th declared officially as Kristine W Day. Kristine W still resides in Las Vegas, NV. Her recording studio for her own record company, Fly Again Records, is located just near South point Casino. She loves the community here even with her world status. She still finds time to show off her fellow locals. The video for “The Boss”, was filmed on the strip and featured „Divas Live‟ star, Crystal Woods. Kristine will also be the headliner for the “Fruit Loop‟s” After Pride Festival Block Party. This festival will be the first time in years where all the businesses in the Loop are supporting one event. Brought to you by LVGN. R.T.

Springtime is here and as we start stripping off the layers of clothes, we start eating differently than we do during the winter. This also means we start coming out of our slumbers and back into the public scene a little bit more. This column I decided to write about some of my favorite hot spots in the city for eating. Instead of doing a review, this is more of a compilation of my hangouts. I am going to list my favorite top five places to eat out on the patio. #5- Starbucks (almost any location) I know all of you are reading this are thinking I am crazy for putting Starbucks on the list. First, it is not really a place to eat, but it does have a good cup of coffee. The real reason I put Starbucks on the list is that I cannot count how many time I have sat outside and had great conversations with friends while drinking my ice mocha with no whip. In addition, there is no other place cruisier than Starbucks, except maybe the airport. Besides, if you want to meet someone new where do you meet him or her besides the bar? Starbucks! #4- Brio (at Town Square) Brio is a restaurant that many people do not really think about going to unless we are already shopping at Town Square. They have a great menu and some amazing wines. One of the best aspects is the huge wrap around patio. Filled with couches, great dining tables, and if you are chilly, you can sit by the fireplace. I find Brio to be a great patio restaurant and I would give them a higher ranking if it were on the water somewhere. #3- Olive (at Bellagio) This is a Todd English restaurant, of which I am a huge fan of his work. Located on the shops level at Bellagio, the restaurant has phenomenal food and if you are lucky, enough to get a table on the patio you are in for an amazing show. The patio sits directly on the lake in front of Bellagio and you should be able to see the fountain show at least once while enjoying your meal. It brings back to life the water show we all love and forget.

Page 26

#2- Blue Martini (at Town Square) My number two pick is more for the overall experience and not just the patio. Blue Martini has a great patio but when you throw in their thirstquenching martinis, which you have a book to select from, and great appetizers you have it set. If you are there while they have live music, Blue Martini showcases some of the best musicians in the valley. Overall, I have always had a great time with friends sipping on my mango martini. #1- Mon Ami Gabi (at the Paris) This is by far my favorite place to eat on the patio in this city. It might take you a little while to get a table on the patio because of the demand for them, but it is well worth it. The French cuisine is FABULOUS! If you get something that looks like mash potatoes on your plate, try them! They are not potatoes but Cauliflower Puree and it is scrumptious. Their wine cart has a very good selection, but the best part of the patio is being able to sit by the railing of the patio and people watch with the Bellagio Fountains as a backdrop. To me this place makes for either the perfect first date or THE place to celebrate a special occasion over dinner. Overall, as the weather gets warmer and you are trying to think of where to go. Remember my tops picks for the city. Some of them might be pricey but you also do have Starbucks as an option! Go have some great food, drinks, and SUN!

Simply Sinful Triffle Cake of your choice 1 pint of heavy whipping cream ½ cup of sugar 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla 1 Pound Fruit of your choice I created this classic triffle recipe for you to make it as you desire. This is a very simple dessert that is light and delicious. First, you need to make the fresh whipped cream. You can either do this by hand or in the mixer. Add the heavy cream and start whipping. Then once the cream starts to stiffen add the sugar and vanilla. When the whipped cream forms stiff peaks it is finished. You can either serve this individually or in a family style. For family style, in a tall glass bowl layer the cake, then whipped cream, then fresh fruit. Repeat layers. For individual, so the same process but in individual bowls. Before serving, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for it to set. For my triffle, I used chocolate cream cake, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. I know this is a simple recipe, but sometimes the simplest things can be the best. Enjoy!

ARIES Attention whore you are not, but upcoming endeavors bring some well earned attention. The spotlight is on and your choices determine how you‟re viewed. Superstar or Super loser just asks Britney Spears she knows both sides of the limelight. TAURUS Prioritize and realize that your plate is full. You‟re almost out of gas and your destination will never be reached if you keep making detours for undeserving people. GEMINI Do unto yourself as you would have others do unto you. Be selfish because it will remind you how you deserver to be treated, not how you have been letting people treat you. Love yourself and others will follow. CANCER Your aspirations will expose you to new ideas and amazingly influential people. Your childlike excitement is almost uncontrollable. Be careful not to blow a load (of money you pervert) because spending till you are broke will not impress. VIRGO Go ahead ignore that pink elephant in your life you know you need to take care of it. Your life is starting to stink and pink elephant poop is the source of smell which will only get worse as the shit piles up. SCORPIO You know you can handle a LARGE ….. Work load. Like other areas in your life you need to plan ahead so you will be prepare the enormous yet rewarding task that come your way this month. Remember you are the one in charge but be flexible with expectations you have of others. A leader needs followers and you are a leader so share the load or fly solo and crash and burn. ..

Page 34

SAGITTARIUS Sparkle and shine; show them what you‟re working with. If it is on you mind share it your voice will be heard in a big way. Forget about being politically correct because when your speech is censored it‟s like pressing mute on the other hand confidence will speak with a volume that can not be tuned out. AQUARIUS It is time for you to come out of the cocoon in one way or another. Your circle of friends are not the only good people left in the world its time to expand your wings. You are a social butterfly scared of change. Your life is predictable and safe your feet on solid ground. Spread your wings attempt to fly and you might feel more alive. CAPRICORN Focus on your home life and slow down a bit. Enjoy the fact that doesn‟t have a ton of crazy shit going on right now. Drama going on with others may be temping to your ear and you may want to get evolved but Curb your drama queen apatite with a new drama TV show you have being meaning to follow. LEO Don‟t wait for that pat on the back and then be pissed when its not there. Enjoy the fruits of your labor as an adult without the need for constant reassurance that you are doing a good job. LIBRA Lose the attitude and enjoy being all corny and lovey-dovey because love is in the air this month. So enjoy the love you are in or with open arms welcome new love into your life. Side affects include a smile that is impossible to get rid of. PISCES Live like you are following a recipe for success make you focus really hard on making sure ingredients you need are all there first then you can think about some other ingredients you might want to add and to increase flavor and overall enjoyment of your recipe for success. A masterpiece takes time or you can just throw some shit together and hope its something you can swallow when its time. Page 35
