The perfect place for your pupils to achieve the BHS Challenge Awards

ThompsonHouseEquestrianCentreisproviding anopportunityforgroupsofschoolchildrento learnhowtocareforhorses,develophands-on, practicalskills,andgetstuckinwithday-to-day tasks

OurChiefExecutiveCarolineTomlinsonisafully qualifiedBHSRidingInstructorandhasalways hadapassionforhorses–itwasherfirstcareer beforehavingchildren Carolinetherefore completelyunderstandshowanequine pathwaycanhelpsomanyyoungpeoplewho feelanxiousorexcludedfromtypicaleducation.

Eachgroupwillconsistof5childrenandthe sessionwillrunfor4-hoursduringthedaytime ThesessionswillfocusontheBritishHorse SocietyChallengeAwards,whicharea recognisedqualificationwithintheequine industry.

Therearearangeofawardsatdifferentlevels, soitdoesn’tmatterwhatpreviousexperience thechildhaswithhorsesoriftheyarea completebeginner.Therewillbeanoptionto addagroupridinglessonontotheendofthe sessionforanadditionalcost,whichwillalsobe focusedaroundachievingaChallengeAward.

ThesessionsareledbyBHSqualified instructors,whohavehadyearsofexperience teachingpracticalsessionsandridinglessons

TheChallengeAwardsarerecreational awardstohelpdevelopconfidence,skills, andknowledgearoundhorses.The awardshavebeenspecificallydesigned withyoungstersinmindbutareopenfor anyonetotake.Thereisanintroductory award,and4practicalbasedawardsthat progressthroughBronze,Silver,Gold,and Platinumstages

TheChallengeAwardsareasolid foundationforprogressingontotheBHS Groomand/orRidingpathwayswhich areindustryrecognisedqualifications, oftenrequiredoratleastpreferredfor careerswithintheequinesector

IntroductiontoHorseCare–howtobe safearoundhorses,howtolead,fit equipment,identifyhorsebehaviours, andhorsegrooming.

KnowingyourHorse–anatomyand identification,fitness,nutrition,training, fatteningetc

CaringforyourHorse–fieldandstable care,rugs,behaviours,trimmingand clipping,enrichment,providingasafefield orstabledenvironmentetc.

HandlingyourHorse–Safetywhenleading,accidentprocedures, correctlyfitdifferenttypesoftackfor leading,loading,unloadingandtravelling, riskassessmentsetc.

LungeingyourHorse–namingthe equipment,fittingandcorrectlyadjusting theequipment,lungeingsafelyand efficiently,developingahorsethrough lingering

Who are the Challenge Awards for?

ChallengeAwardsareforanyonewithan interestinhorses,butcanbeespecially beneficialforchildrenandyoungadults whofeelanxious,excludedorisolated. Itdoesn’tmatteriftheyhavesome experienceofhorses,ornoneatall.
