For several decades the Teddy bear was recognized as a toy. Most commonly it was created as a stuffed animal. It has been given to children and to adults for various occasions, including birthdays, graduations, weddings Christmas, Valentine's day and even as prizes at fairs.

Also still drawings and later animations of these cute bears found their way into advertising campaigns. This became especially true around the Christmas holidays. For many years now

But coke is not the only company using cute stuffed bears in their ads. There have been many commercial ads that have used these cuddle bears. They have been used to advertise candy, nylon stockings cosmetics and many more products.

In relatively recent years we have seen some cuddly bears in TV advertising. Snuggle is a fabric softener that has a teddy bear type mascot named, you know it-Snuggle the fabric softener bear. He was introduced on TV about 1983 dropping down into a basket of soft sheets. He is still on the label of their liquid and dryer sheets Since about the year 2001 Charmin has used a bear to help sell their product and not long after added a bear cub.

In addition to product advertisements, Smokey The Bear has been the "spokesman" for forest fires and wild fire prevention campaigns. Smokey bear has been telling us, "Only you can prevent forest fires," since 1942. This character has been a very successful promoter. In the UK an equally popular bear named "Pudsey Bear" is used to promote a charity designed to help needy children. So bear ads not only are used to sell products, but also to promote charities and safety.

The love of cuddly bears have made a difference to many people over the past 100 plus years.

Not only do they bring joy to their owners, but also help promote a variety of products now and have throughout the last century. The introduction of teddy bears has made a difference in people's lives in many ways including their ability to help advertisers succeed.
