EDITOR’S LETTER I joined the MYFLASHTRASH.COM team in January 2012. Having trained as an Architect and graduated with a Masters degree from Cambridge University in October 2011, working for the company has been an exciting change of career path. Since joining the company, it has largely evolved and expanded and is now fast becoming the leading online store for jewellery and accessories. Not one day in the office has ever been the same. It is an extremely exciting place to work with great office dynamics. With plenty of exciting new ventures on the horizon I cannot wait to announce these in our next newspaper edition which will be released in time for Christmas. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge haved recently toured Asia in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. During the tour the happy couple attended a State Dinner in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Duchess personally chose to wear two gold pieces of MYFLASHTRASH. COM jewellery designed by Catherine Zoraida. The Duchess accompanied her jewels with a floor-length ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline, and fitted bodice covered in Malaysian gold hibiscus embroidered flowers. 6

GEORGIE OKELL INTERVIEW MYFLASHTRASH.COM has a lot of famous fans, but we decided to turn the tables on one of our favourite faces, Georgie Okell, the presenter of T4 and Freshly Squeezed. How did you get into TV presenting? Well apparently when I was six I used to say I wanted to be a radio DJ! I have always wanted to be involved in music but I never imagined that I would make it onto TV. I heard about an audition, went along and got the job of presenting for T4 online. If you had asked me three years ago what I thought I would be doing now I definetly wouldn’t have said this!

Where do you like to hang out in London? I love just hanging out with friends for hours in pubs. My fav pubs are around Kentish Town and Camden. Who’s hot right now? Kristen Stewart. She’s the one What is in your jewellery box? Big heavy gold chains because they go with everything I wear. I never go for pretty little things. Always bold statement pieces. Tatty Devine Gold Dinosaur Necklace is one of my favourites. Everyone has been asking where it is from, including the cast of the new Dallas series.
Who has been your favourite person to interview? Argh this is a tough one. I’m always changing my mind. I absolutely loved interviewing The Rock because he is actually the most gentle and lovely man I have met. But then I also loved interviewing the actress Rooney Mara, she is so down to earth. So are you a London girl? No I’m from Chester and went to University in St. Andrews in Scotland. THE ONLINE JEWELLERY BOUTIQUE
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be? Cereal. It’s a tough choice between Lion Bar cereal or Special K Red Berry. What is your favourite party tune for the weekend? Afterlight by Rustie ft. Aluna George. It’s such as good Friday night party song. If im DJ-ing it’s without a doubt Azelia Banks 212, which never fails to get people dancing. It has to be the song of the year! What have you got planned for London Fashion Week coming up? LFW is exhausting if you go hard and I’m training for a marathon at the moment so want to find a healthy balance. I want to attend a few shows and maybe hit a few parties but not go totally crazy. Wow, a marathon. GOOD LUCK! That’s heavy stuff. Where are you running it? It’s the New York Marathon and I want to finish in 3 hours and 45 mins. The thought is terrifying me!

FLASH SAMPLE SALE On Friday 31st August (payday!) MYFLASHTRASH.COM packed up office and relocated to the urban oasis that is Apartment 58, to hold our exlcusive Sample Sale. Armed with boxes of delightful mini cupcakes by Sweet Couture and selection of our most coveted jewellery, we took over the Soho private members club for an afternoon. With up to 80% off on some of our hottest designers, this event was not one to be missed! And if the discounts weren’t good enough, we treated our fans to free manicures and mini massages by SpaByCar, and free Hoxton Gin cocktails - the perfect mix of pampering and retail therapy on a Friday afternoon! It Poet Daisy Walker and Model/ Poet Greta Bellamacina stopped by for their jewellery fix whilst super songstress Yadi shopped the collection whilst sipping on her cranberry and Hoxton Gin cocktail. BARK BRITISH JEWELLERY Miwako, tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your brand. I was born in Japan and grew up in Europe. I fell into the world of jewellery when a friend of mine dragged me along to a jewellery making class over 15 years ago in Japan. I was completely mesmerised by it all and went on to do a full time jewellery course in Tokyo. In 2000 I moved to London to study at the Sir John Cass School of Art and it was during this time that I was approached by shops in London and Tokyo to sell my work. And so BARK was born, I took my first official collection to Paris Fashion Week in 2005 and the rest is history. What do you love most about designing and creating your own jewellery? The freedom to do whatever I want! It is an amazing feeling to get a vision in my head and to make it into a piece of jewellery from scratch, using my own hands. What was your inspiration to start jewellery designing? I hadn’t really thought about making jewellery until the aforementioned friend opened THE ONLINE JEWELLERY BOUTIQUE

my eyes to it, but I felt elated when I made my first ever ring and discovered that I could just design and make original, one off pieces. Years later, when I wrote my first order, I thought this is brilliant, I am never going to stop! What have you learned over the course of being a designer? To follow my instincts and not to worry too much!

What is the piece of jewellery that you’re most proud? I am proud of all my creations, but I am constantly designing and making new pieces, so the latest piece that I have made tends to be my favourite. I have not taken off the rose gold ‘lightning’ rings since I made them. 14
How would you describe your jewellery? Romantic and sentimental, timeless classics with a playful twist. I love seeing people smile when they look at the pieces. What material do you enjoy working with most? I always work with precious metals as I believe that jewellery should be an investment and not a throwaway item. Do you have big plans, new ideas or designs you will be exploring soon? My Spring-Summer 2013 collection will be an explosion of colours, featuring a variety of precious, and semi precious stones. I am discovering the beauty of gem stones, and am hoping to explore this further and perhaps design a line of fine jewellery. I hope to launch these in the new year. What are your hobbies and interests outside of jewellery? Vintage markets and music. I play the Ukulele (badly!) What would be your advice to someone who wants to start as a jewellery designer?
