Love, Blood In December of 2021, HOSA hosted its first blood drive and is preparing for another one in the spring for students to show love for others by donating blood. Kailey Nutt Staff Writer On Monday, December 6th, HOSA hosted its first blood drive. After several years of the National Honors Society (NHS) being the host, NHS has let the medical club, HOSA, take lead in hosting this year’s blood drive and more years to come. “Blood cannot stay on the shelf for very long, so they constantly need blood donations,” Jessica Chambers, a teacher who is also in charge of HOSA alongside Chelsea Owens, said. Chambers talks about the importance of donating blood, and how one donation could save a life in need, making blood drives key to being part of the school. “You have to be 17 and you have to weigh (at least) 115 pounds,” Chambers said. In order to donate blood, some requirements are needed, and before donating a series of questions will be asked to make sure there is nothing preventing the student from donating. “It made more sense that HOSA, because we are a medical club, would take over this event,” Chambers said. HOSA proudly took on the role of being the sponsors of this year’s blood drive, and students in the club who are interested in medicine can help be the face of an important event and opportunity the school has to offer. “In the spring (2022) we hope to host another blood drive, which will be bigger,” Chambers said. This year’s blood drive only allowed 33 spots

available to donate blood, but HOSA will be hosting another blood drive so there can be more donations, and HOSA follows in the footsteps of the drive being set twice during the school year. “The organization, “We Are Blood”, is the group that comes out to Dripping Springs,” Chambers said. We Are Blood has been coming to the highschool to get donations for several years to draw blood and provide care to those wanting to donate. The organization will be giving out free cookies to those who donate, and information about their blood type. “We Are Blood” dontes locally and is the only local blood services provider. “Well the positives…,” Chambers said, “you’re helping to save a life”

The Meaning of Flowers What To Get and What Not To Get Your Partner

As a tradition on the holiday for lovebirds, purchasing chocolates and teddy bears conveys the message of love. However, the one notorious gift for your significant other dominates all: a bouquet of flowers. But, you have to know whether you gave the gift of love or the gift of hate on Valentine’s Day. The red rose holds up the meaning of love as a popular choice on Valentine’s Day and has made its place in flower stores and dinner tables for all. The beautiful red rose takes the cake as the perfect date night or anniversary gift. However, while the red rose may symbolize love, the yellow rose contains the power of friendship. The yellow rose may brighten up the room, but it could dull your partner’s day if they view it as a bouquet of ‘just friends.’ Next comes the chrysanthemum and its hundreds of beautiful petals. This flower comes in all shapes, sizes and colors, looking absolutely splendid in a vase full of greenery, but if given to someone in a bouquet… trouble starts to brew. The chrysanthemum contains the meaning of death in many cultures and giving someone this flower could imply a darker meaning. Carnations, big and plentiful around Valentine’s day, and one of the most popular ones to give to your partner. Like the rose, the carnation can have different meanings depending on its color. Pink carnations symbolize a mother’s love, making them a perfect choice for your loving mother. Light red carnations share a similarity with red roses as they also contain the meaning of love and admiration. Tulips sit right up there with roses and carnations for Valentine’s Day gifts. Their simple and

Written by: Rebekah Johnson Staff Writer colorful appearance can brighten up any gloomy face, no matter the day. Of course, like nearly all red flowers, red tulips symbolize love and affection, but get them in yellow and they convey the happiness found between two people. And if you want the king or queen of your life to smile, purchase them a lovely bunch of purple tulips to treat them like royalty. Finally, the lovely dahlia. These flowers come in a large assortment of colors all of which contain rather different meanings. The black dehlia, a symbol of betrayl. This flower has the darkest meaning of them all, and must be avoid as a gift for you significant other. Unless you plan to have a ruthless break-up, stay away from the black dahlias. On a lighter note, the white dahlias represent innocence or purity, perfect for the angel in you life. Once again with the crimson color, red dahlias represent strength, a wonderful choice for a wonderful power couple. As you have seen, all types of flowers contain carry a different meanings that it can seem impossible to find the right one. As long as you remember the devotion you and your loverbird have for each other, you will know which bouquet of flowers to pick.

Cancer

(June 22—July 22)February is the perfect time to ease out of your stressful grind mindset and lean into a more natural energy flow. At the start of the month, your overall energy may be low, so take some time to relax and meditate. Towards the end of the month is a great time for you to start a new project or make a major announcement, and your friends and family will be more than happy to support you. Make sure you take care of your mental and emotional health along the way, finding time to incorporate rest in your daily life. Also, never apologize for sharing things that excite you, or things that you enjoy. Cancer is most compatible with: Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces. As Cancers are full of emotion, feeling secure is important, so the other water signs, Scorpio and Pisces will be able to meet your expectations, and make you feel safe. Scorpios will pick up on how you are feeling, and diffuse any negative emotions without a word, but will also love to have deep talks with you. Pisces will connect with you on a spiritual level that will make you feel like you're walking on air. You will appreciate a Taurus’ commitment and dependability, and you will be able to open up to them, and you will appreciate a Virgo’s selflessness and hardwork.

Scorpio

(October 24–November 21)Though your default setting is to be introspective, February is a month of letting your guard down. Embrace your personality and, of course, be welcome to support from friends and family. This month you will begin a journey of wiping away all of the pain and misfortune that you have dealt with in the past. Towards the end of the month you will be faced with a big decision, so work through your wild impulses before getting serious. Choose who you surround yourself wisely; you cannot expect people to treat you differently from the way you allow them to. Don’t settle for less than you deserve, ever. Scorpio is most compatible with: Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn, and Pisces. Other water signs, Cancer and Pisces, can understand your love for secrecy, problem solving, and finding the truth, on a deeper level than other signs. Cancers will understand you deeply and offer you their loyalty and affection, which you desire. Pisces have a sense of openness and fearlessness that will bring out your vulnerable side, and allow you to be more open to others and yourself. Virgos will help you to adapt, and refine your original ideas while becoming flexible. Capricorns are goal-oriented, so they will understand and help you reach the power you desire in your life.

Pisces

(February 19–March 20)February is a period of self discovery in the lessons of moments and memories. It is a transitional time for you, a time to savor your life rather than dwell on regrets and doubt. Stay optimistic, for although the peak of the month may bring about a small challenge, you have the power to overcome it and move forward to better things. Embrace the hobbies that you love, and make time in your structured routine to let yourself enjoy the little things in life. Get in nature or take photos or read a new book. Pisces is most compatible with: Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, and Capricorn. Water signs Scorpio and Cancer are most compatible with Pisces. Cancers will be very nurturing and make for a harmonious relationship. Cancer and Pisces are two of the most intuitive signs. Scorpio and Pisces have a natural understanding of each other and complement one anothers intensity. Taurus will help to embrace your sensual side as a Pisces and bring out creativity while fellow earth sign, Capricorn, will be more focused on tangible goals together and help to be a grounding force in your life.

A Dark Outlook

The Decline of Trust in Democratic Institutions and the Threat of Political Division Alec Stuart Staff Writer

In 2022, America has found itself in a shaky spot. Not many times have occurred in this country’s history where things would look so pessimistic, and many reasons prove just why. From COVID-19 to economic stagnation, the issues remain endless. However, nothing remains as prevalent as the glaring political polarization that has divided the country in half. Now, how did we get here, to events such as Jan. 6? The decline in trust of the democratic institutions that, while not perfect, have kept this country going and made the idea of America an example to the world. To clarify, a democracy can only thrive if its citizens believe in it. Without trust, the stature of democratic institutions faltures, allowing the gates of authoritarianism to open. We shall now talk about two categories of this issue. First, the decline of trust in the government that has occurred for decades. Second, the mass spread of misinformation. Both of these, when put together, have done unfathomable damage to this country. By far, nothing has contributed to government distrust more than the Vietnam War and the Watergate Scandal. While the affairs of politicians and the state have always posed an issue since the founding of the Republic, these two things really tied the knot that we see today. While Vietnam and Watergate happened half a century ago, the thought in Americans that the government lied to them on such a scale proved unrecoverable. Furthermore, the lack of trust in politicians has extended to the institutions of the government itself. This allows for ignorance, anger, and complacency in the face of adversity, such as we’ve seen in the last five years. To build, these things also allow demagogues and extreme forms of populism to take place, usually with the classic claim of being an outsider set on changing things, also like we’ve seen in recent times. Furthermore, much of what has occurred would also not have had the potential to occur without the dramatic rise of misinformation. With the advent of the internet, the transferring of information can happen to anyone near instantaneously. While largely good, everything has its drawbacks. If I were a depressed person filled with grievances towards society as a whole, then I’d most certainly have an open mindset to everything, lies included. With enough rhetoric and persuasion, you can get people to believe in the most absurd things, to the point where fantasy becomes reality in their eyes. Again, the internet has enabled this to occur on a much larger scale than without it. An uninformed populace can and will believe anything they hear and want, and this can lead to actions, most often ending in disaster. Look at Jan. 6 as an example. In conclusion, America’s greatest threat comes not from Russia, China, or some terrorist group. We are the threat. The entire world watches as we tear ourselves apart. And as stated above, this powder keg has slowly built itself for many years.

The age-old question of life after death. For as long as we can remember humans have wondered what happens after you die. The thought of an afterlife is scary, but I believe death or rebirth is nothing but wonderful! Before we dive into a spiraling sea of theories, you first need to know what causes death. Scientists have discovered the energy-carrying molecule known in the science world as ATP. This ATP molecule is formed by Oxygen and Glucose, and it’s what keeps cells in check. ATP needs a lot of energy, and as you grow older or are sick, you don’t have much energy to keep them supplied. ATP has a tendency to just up and go when it’s not getting enough energy. When enough ATP disappears, your cells will break up into molecules and ultimately cause your body to die. An ongoing investigation is the process of death. Dying is not just one event; it is a series of events where different parts of your body begin shutting down. This has been proven! Sure your heart might stop but that doesn’t mean that your brain is completely done shutting down. It can take up to hours or even days for your brain to fully shut down. You could be classified as dead but still, be in your conscious mind, many people have officially died and then woke up. Super scary! A few accounts have been made that during this process people have “relived” their lives from start to “finish” but only the parts where they contributed to humanity. The coolest part about this is that these people claim to have experienced the pain they caused others. If you happened to rob a bank during your life you would feel the same pain you caused the people involved. I believe that this “re-living” could be the scoring of your life. If the afterlife follows the same good or bad mindset as on Earth then robbing a bank would likely set you back. Some accounts may not seem plausible considering most of the participants were older or suffering from illnesses. Certain illnesses participants had could result in incorrect information given or even a hallucination. Wernher von Braun was a rocket engineer (and former German scientist) from NASA who believed in life after death. He believed that nothing in nature is capable of disappearing without a trace. That would mean that everything you did on Earth would have some effect on the universe. For instance, I just so happen to invite my friend to get ice cream with me before she goes to work. While we are sitting in the ice cream parlor, the news comes on about a ten-car pile-up on the road my friend takes to work. I have prevented her from getting into that accident and have therefore changed the Earth and Universe in some small way. I believe that everyone in the universe will contribute in some way before they die. Children are a great way to learn more about the afterlife; because they are new to the world, they may have a higher chance of remembering another lifetime. They are unwavering by influence and have been untouched by society’s views. I imagine they’d be very reliable if you asked them at the right time. Not too late or too early. Some children have claimed to remember what their soul/essence looks like and were able to draw it out. But of course, you have to remember that they are only children and their imagination is always running wild. In the article, “Is There Life After Death?” scientists asked children the question, “What happens after you die?”, and they answered that your physical biology ends and some of your psychology lives on. This is one of the reasons

I believe your soul/consciousness is moving on and reincarnating. If you don’t trust the judgment of children, you might trust these Greek philosophers. The Greek philosopher Epicurus argued that death was not all that bad. He believed that as soon as you died everything just ended, but I think there is too much that goes against this claim. He used an example of someone saying something bad about him after he died, but the comment had no effect. This would not have affected him because he was not there to hear it. Death may be bad for the people living but not for the people that have died. On the contrary to Epicurus’s claim of everything ending Greek philosopher, Lucretius compared death to birth. In short, Lucretius believed both life and death stretched out to infinity and neither of them included yourself and not having minded missing out on one would constitute not missing the other. I think the only reason we fear death and the unknown is the fact that we will be missing out, as Lucretius describes death as depriving us of all the fun we could be having if we hadn’t died! The subject I will touch on next is more on the paranormal side. What could be seen as universal acknowledgment is that ghosts or spirits have reached out to us before. The only ghosts I have ever heard or interacted with were kind and most didn’t know they were dead! This makes me wonder if we are the ones that are dead and the ghosts are alive. That is a question that is simply unanswerable, but it can be said that these ghosts seem just like lost souls. People that were unable to accomplish their goal for the lifetime they were in are stuck, repeating the same life over and over again until they get it right. It’s like reading the same sentence twice. They continue to repeat this until they fulfill whatever their goal was. This may explain why when ghost hunters speak with the ghosts they sound confused and lost. The ghost hunter’s voices coming from nowhere were not the original script in their reality so naturally, this would throw them off. But of course, spirit boxes can pick up nearby radio interference. However, this information does not account for the questions answered specifically. A popular way to learn more about past lives is by visiting palm readers or mediums. Some of these gifted people can be very helpful to learn more about your soul however it is important to remember that not all mediums or palm readers can be trusted! One of the easiest ways to learn more about your past lives is by looking at what you fear the most. I have a huge fear of dark, deep water. When you think about it and look for deeper meanings in silly fears such as being afraid of laundromats or dogs. These fears could hint at a traumatic event from a past life. If I interpret my fear correctly I could have drowned in the Ocean or been pushed down a well or perhaps I just have a large fear of the unknown. In the end, the question of life after death has no definitive answer. It only leads to more questions such as, “What is the meaning of life?” and then there is a religious point of view. Death is perfectly natural and is essentially the only thing we are promised in life. If humans knew the truth of what comes after your body dies, the whole shape, structure, meaning, and purpose of life could be completely lost. We would just be demotivated blobs of boring waiting to leave this life. So, in conclusion, life is wonderful and we should be able to enjoy it without the looming reminder of death hanging over our heads. Whatever happens, happens.

One Day or the Hours and the Minutes and the Seconds?

Sophia Portillo Co-Editor-in-Chief

Why do we feel the need, the simple, yet demanding desire, to celebrate a single day of the year that we cannot find ourselves wanting to celebrate? Why have we forced ourselves into cramming something as great as love into a single day- inquiring everything to come out at once as if it’s being held against its will? We convince ourselves to hold this standard that we must love another person even more than we already do for a singular day even though we know deep within ourselves that we should love them the same way every day. History collectively decided that with the execution of two people, both killed from utter hatred, that, ironically, somehow we should devote an entire holiday to love. Now, we have Valentine’s day the way we see it today. A day of simple requests- buy flowers or chocolates, take your spouse out to dinner, write a love poem. But why do we have to keep it confined to one day? Why not take the hours of this day and split them into minutes… Why not take that boring, unmemorable, two hour dinner that everyone makes reservations for and use that time for something else? Spread those two hours out into 15 minutes. 15 minutes each day of full love and attention spread into eight days equivocates to the same amount of time as two hours at once. However, just because the time has the same value mathematically, doesn’t mean that it will have the same meaning. Wouldn’t you desire to spread that love out so it lives on for more than a stipulated day? See, it’s all the same logic- spend every dime you worked for all at once or save them to spend each and every day that way you’ll never truly be out. So, what would you choose? It’s all a matter of preference at the end of the day right? You could even go as far as allotting the time into five minutes and then you’ll have 24 days of such love. After all, five minutes of such simple love can do far more than a lifetime of love that was never properly spent. But in the end, Valentine’s day is what you make of it whether you want it to remain for just a day of the year or live on for the last 364.. Take it second by second, minute by minute, day by day, and soon, you’ll have a lifetime.

Player Spotlight Lucy Tyo

Mallory Neff Sports Editor

Senior Lucy Tyo has been playing lacrosse for five years on the High School Girls Lacrosse club team. She made it to district playoffs her freshman year. She is extremely talented and was verbally committed to Rockhurst University in Kansas City MO her junior year, and signed to them last semester. This year, her team voted unanimously that she be captain in this year’s lacrosse season.

Why do you play Lacrosse? I play lacrosse because my brother started playing it, and it seemed like so much fun. My dad used to also play lacrosse in high school and he has never stopped loving the game of lacrosse.”

What is the hardest part? “The hardest part about playing lacrosse would be game days. While winning is always amazing, losing can be hard to take in. You have to remember it’s about learning and becoming a better athlete. Coming in for the huddle after we just lost makes me want to go out there again and push myself harder and to fix the mistakes I’ve made.”

What are your favorite memories? “My favorite memory would be traveling with my parents and seeing the different places lacrosse takes me. From going to Northwestern with my dad and playing with college level athletes and making new friends, to going to the beach with my mom as we make our way down to the next state to compete in.”

What Inspires You to Keep Going? “The thing that inspires me the most is different than most peoples. One thing my dad always says is how he wished he played lacrosse in college. I want to show him how much those words hit me the night he said them. I now am committed to a college going on a lacrosse scholarship and it wouldn’t have been the same if he didn’t say those words to me.”

Senior Lucy Tyo running down the field during a game in her junior year. Photo from: Lucy Tyo

What is your favorite part about Lacrosse? “My favorite part about the sport would be how each play is different. It’s never going to be the exact same as the last one. One play could be completely different next time you run it.”

What are your goals for the season? “My goal as captain of the lacrosse team is for us to make it to the state play-offs and come home with that trophy. My other goal for my team is to make sure they are having the best experience that they could ever have and hold onto many memories as we all go our separate ways in life. My personal goal this year is to at least be all district players if not higher. My other goal is to give 110% in the drills but to make sure I am still having fun.”

How much have you improved mentally and physically since you started playing? Senior Lucy Tyo redefending McNeil’s goalie during a game. Photo from: Lucy Tyo

“Mentally I am 100% all about lacrosse. I think first starting this sport I wasn’t too sure about it because I was playing with really good players. Physically I feel so much stronger than when I first stepped onto the field because I have trained and played at a national level to see that what I am doing helps me in the long run.”

Who is your Biggest Supporter? “My teammates are one of my biggest supporters because they push me during practices to help me get better. My coach is another big supporter. Everyday I see my coach at practice and he always has the biggest smile and says “how’s it going kiddo you’re doing great, keep it up”. But my biggest supporters would be my family. My mom has been on the board for the girls lacrosse team for years. Last year was a pretty messy year and she took on all the challenges to make sure me and my team had the things we needed to have a good season. My mom and I used to travel with my club team to the games that were out of state. We made so many memories together during those times and that is something I will forever hold onto. My dad stepped in my freshmen year and became one of the coaches when we had no one to count on to give us the experience we needed to become a winning team. My dad and I get to drive to and from practices each night just hanging out jamming to “purple hat”. My dad was on the sideline cheering as loud as he could for all of us out on the field. They will forever be my biggest supporters even if I’m 10 hours away from home.

Working Out Alongside The Swim Team As a swimmer on the highschool swim team, I can say from experience that being a competitive swimmer is not just about what you do in the water. Through most of my experiences in practice I noticed a lot of differences when compared to other sports, not only in the pool but exercising outside of the pool. I was able to meet again with coach Hoskovec, also called coach Hos, who coaches the Swim Team, to talk about his methods of training the athletes. Hoskovec scheduled the practices during the weekdays, with Wednesday being “dry-land day” and occasionally “wet-land day”. Dry land consists of various workouts given in a certain order, much like a circuit. Starting with one swimmer at each station doing a certain exercise for 45 seconds, then take a 15 second break. After the break the swimmer will then move on to the next station and start that exercise. Some of these stations are directly associated with the following station, in terms of muscle group. With wet land, it is basically the same thing, with the exception that some of the stations include a swimming set. This certain style of workout has the swimmers utilize “AMRAP” (as many reps as possible) to ultimately work on improving muscle stamina. Hoskovec explains these workouts are meant to “maintain strength with flexibility” because swimming is a “pull” sport, rather than a “push” sport, like football. Hos positions the exercises with the intention to, “keep a variety” while also specifically working on different muscles associated with the situation of exercises. For example putting “pushing next to a pulling exercise” while also working on a certain muscle group. Other sports utilize workouts meant to improve muscle strength rather than muscle stamina. When compared to a sport like football, swim workouts isolate certain muscle groups through a variety of cardio exercises. A lot of brilliant strategies are expressed through these workouts, introduced by coach Hos, that will surely benefit our swimmers in performing to their best abilities. You can come by and witness this for yourself by attending the highschool regional prelims meet on February 4th at Texas A&M.

Meet Ashlyn McHugh

Interview by: Brooklyn Hagblom Photos by: Ariela Barron, Brooklyn Hagblom

Q A Q A Q A Q A Q A Q A

Sophomore Ashlyn Mchugh talks everything art and more

What is your go-to style of art? How would you describe it? My go to style is realism because you can take objects from real life, and morph them, make them abstract in a way. You can still tell that what’s made it’s a clock or a person, but you can make it different in any shape or form. Where do you get/pull inspiration from?

I get inspiration from my favorite artist, Claude Monet, his paintings are based on impressionism. So it’s another form of taking something from real life and making it abstract. They are really calming, but always tell a story. I also pull inspiration from day to day life like, experiences that I’ve been through, or memories.

When is your favorite time/place to create? My favorite time is during sunset. The lighting is beautiful, sort of a honey glow, and gives a gentle feeling. I love to paint on my porch, with the breeze and noises around me. I love to paint when my head is quiet, and I am calm, and collected.

How has your style changed over time? I used to paint objects, but recently it’s evolved to faces and scenes because I can alter the look and play around. It has also changed based off of the experiences that I have had, and what I am going through at the moment. It is constantly evolving. What’s your favorite tool to create art? Paint! And paintbrushes, but also my hands…I love to use my hands! Recently, I have been messing around with watercolors. It has turned out more difficult than I expected, but it’s also challenged me. But I’m really liking it because you can blend the colors easily, and it’s simple to fix when you mess up. It’s so calming, I think maybe it’s the kind of pastel look that it has. Do you have a recurring theme in your art or do you just improvise? My art is visually darker, and monotone. But it has a meaning behind it. I think that could be a recurring pattern, but I do love to improvise. I have been drawing very ghouly creepy faces, and I am digging that.

So, there is this girl… she does choir like I do… and I always have my full attention on her. My eyes glued on her, observing the way she flips through her music and the way she glances up at the teacher and at me. The way she gracefully strides over to her seat, the subtle steps she takes. God, she’s so pretty. God, she’s so kind. God, she’s so romantic. God she’s so… Perfect.

She would look at me in class, up and down taking in all of my features. My blonde hair, my hazel green eyes and the soft grin I have plastered on my face. That dumb grin, MY dumb grin. I look at her, returning the favor. I consider this, what do the others call it? ‘Checking her out’? Even though she and I have been together for over 2 years now. I still feel like every time I look at her, It’s still the first date, or the first kiss, or the moment I realized that I am indeed in love with her. I just can’t look away from her, I do at some points, but it is so incredibly hard to not look at the girl in my choir.

I sit on the other side of where she is, having a different voice part than her. I still The girl I love. can’t seem to take my eyes off her, and her beauty always takes my breath away. The girl that stole my heart. The girl with the perfect smile and laugh. Her smile, my GOD her smile can easily put me in a state of hypnosis. That smile, that beautiful smile. That show-stopping smile. God I am addicted to that smile, and the way she would gently rest her hand on my shoulder. Or the way she would wrap her arms around my shoulders and I did her waist, her hugs feeling like I’m floating to another world. I can’t seem to get enough of those hugs.

That laugh, god it’s like music. I can’t seem to get enough of it, that lovely laugh. I try to get that laugh somehow, making jokes and references towards stuff she likes. It works every time, and the way her face lights up, and the moment she lets that laugh out. I fall in a state of pure bliss, resting my head against hers laughing along. I am just madly, and deeply in love with her.

Tantlizing Trends

Old trends creating a long lasting Impact For All

Many have this notion that Dripping is a quaint town turned urbanized in the last decade, much like Oak Hill or Buda. The local businesses cut for chain restaurants, natural beauty compromised for roads and massive subdivisions. Although this is a very valid view, most fail to realize that there are parts of old rustic Dripping that have been preserved. These photos display this natural beauty in their purest form. These have been taken on the road Mt. Gainor, full of cattle grates, dirt roads, and one lane bridges. This road is not even remote, it connects to 290, the very antithesis of old Dripping. The only reason I found this path was as an alternative to avoid traffic on Ranch Road 12, but I was taken away by the mist rising off the creek, and the loose longhorns roaming the property. Although rapid urbanization is probably inevitable, I appreciate the duality of Dripping Springs when it comes down to it.

Keeping It Digital A Dive Into E-dating and its indifference to natural human needs

We all want happiness, right? According to Maslow’s hierarof needs, love and belongingness are needs to be met in someone’s life in order to reach self-actualization, however, the way young people approach such relationships nowmay it be their first romantic encounter or any romantic milestone, perfectly embodies how modern technology and its advancements have a role in people’s intimate lives, for better or worse. The digital space for online relationships is most prominent amongst the youth, unsurprisingly as people born in the early 2000s that were essentially raised by the internet, continue the prolonged influence of their devices to actually connect people in a digitized world. Nevertheless, a long-reigning force throughout human history that has yet to be thwarted out of the human consciousness is the innate endeavor to love, young love specifically, a precious yet infectious naivety that impresses the already jumbled slate that is a teenager. Not to say young love is necessarily naive, therefore invaluable. Actually, it appears there are many lessons to be learned in any relationship, basically on how to be treated and treat other people, romantically or otherwise. Furthermore, taking into account a sense of belonging, and the worthwhile connections that shape someone’s relationship with themselves and the world around them, presents the chasm that is social media and romance for teenagers as they try to find their place in this world, whilst figuring out what they want, and need to do in order to achieve self-actualization which is an undeniable given in which young people have the cognizance for once they start to become actual people with minds and views they’ve accumulated over their short, yet illuminating time on this planet. First dates IRL are everything. Human to human, face to face, one demeanor to another in hopes of harmony and a blend of conversation. The feature that cannot be altered in the real world is the unenhanced human connection, meanwhile, the connection

With the dawning of a new age, an array of new trends will occur. The majority of newer trends viewed in current media are just simply more refined and modernized versions of previous pop culture-related infatuations. This specific scenario is most commonly an occurrence throughout fashion and music. On average, the time frame in which a popular fashion trend will repeat itself is around 20 to 30 years. Researchers believe that crazes tend to repeat themselves due to generational changes, as well as designers finding inspiration in what their parents had worn before. In recent times, old clothing articles and patterns such as bell bottoms, corduroy, plaid, mini skirts, cardigans, sheer dresses, slip dresses, mary jane shoes, and much more have been popularized and transformed in their own way! The difference between when these trends first began compared to now is that newer generations have decided to add their own spin to it. Younger generations especially seem to enjoy participating in this scenario. By adding newer and more modern

Fashion will continue to evolve as the time goes on, but it appears that old trends and new trends become combined, creating a significant impact on pop culture. As far as music goes, similar occurrences can be seen. Modern artists tend to take inspiration from early 2000’s and 90’s artists. Well-known musicians such as Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat and Willow have taken inspiration from older artists like Paramore, David Bowie, Madonna, Blink-182, and Britney Spears. Similarly, old music has been becoming popularized again. Musical genres such as Shoegaze, Heavy Metal, Nu-Metal, Post Punk, Alternative, and more have become prominent once again and modern artists are creating their own take on it. Without old trends, music and fashion would not be the same as it is today. Trends will always have a significant impact on pop culture and the way our lives appear.
