Dear Resident, We are now poised to enter one of the most joyous phases of the year where the season of festivities ensures we have something to celebrate almost every other day. Festivals are an integral part of our lives and there is good reason behind this socio-cultural phenomenon. Festivities usually mark the beginning or the culmination of an auspicious period of time or they are linked to feats of human endeavour. In either case, they represent a feeling of collective happiness.

We, at DLF5, celebrate every such occasion with infectious enthusiasm.

The Freedom Run this Independence Day was the perfect example where not only did we witness record participation, the energy, zeal and fun factor were at benchmark levels. Our cover feature is a case study in joy as we speak to our residents and discover what festivals mean to them and the myriad ways in which they give expression to their happiness. We also present some great ideas to get our homes ready to welcome the festive season.

Festivals, by their very nature, are defined by a sense of plurality. They mean many things to many people. For some, it could be about travelling and discovering new places. This edition of High5 has picturesque details on Bali, Seattle and Gujarat. For others, they could be about great food and we have that covered through our write-ups on Oriental Terrace and CafĂŠ Amaretto.

A sense of physical fitness and overall well-being is perhaps the single biggest aspect that fuels our happiness and this issue has some excellent features on steps that allow us to slow down the effects of ageing and on tips to ensure flawlessly radiant skin.

t is, perhaps, the biggest misnomer in the context of a home that the terms ‘disparate’ and ‘order’ or even ‘harmony’, if you will, are diametrically opposed to each other. In fact, it is exactly the other way around. Disparate works extremely well because a home exists in a state of continuous evolution and it is this gradual growth which provides the character that differentiates a home from a house.

A well-appointed home is a mix of varying, often contrasting, sensibilities, emotions and memories and it is the creativity of the people who live there which binds this diversity in cohesive eclecticism. Dolly and Manjit Singh Bala’s residence at The Pinnacle, DLF5, is an embodiment of this theory and provides irrefutable proof that disparity is synonymous with beauty in the parlance of a tastefully done up home.

The dining area features a brilliant painting of a tiger done by an artist at the Jim Corbett National Park We arrive at the wooden door of the Bala residence and before ringing the bell, stop to admire the small table on one side of the door. There is a stack of books, an early indicator of the reading habits of the people inside, alongside a small idol of Lord Ganesha and an objet d’art in ceramic. It is blue and white and looks a lot like Chinese pottery. It eventually turns out to be Austrian which makes us revise our theory of automatically slotting every blue and white piece of ceramic into Chinese territory.

The door is opened by our host Manjit and it is easy to see why he has earned the nickname, Tiger. Tall and imposing, Manjit is the proverbial larger-than-life persona. He is also exceedingly polite, courteous and full of good humour, which is slightly at variance with the predatory overtones of his sobriquet.

We mention the pottery at the entrance and it is Dolly Bala that takes over. “It was a gift from our Portugese neighbour,” she says.

“It is Austrian and the antique Ganesha is from Cochin.”

professes a deep love for thrillers and romance novels. “I also love roses,” she says and indeed, those pretty blossoms are a recurring motif throughout the home.

Stepping inside, there is a beautiful lamp on the right which illuminates a pretty table underneath it. There are glass turtles, an auspicious symbol in many cultures, on that table which reflect the illumination and make the area glow. It is an inspired setting. Looking straight ahead we encounter another attractive mix of books and artefacts which include a vividly coloured bird.

We venture, somewhat hesitantly of course, the suggestion that the

creature might be crafted after a Chinese fashion. “Yes,” says Dolly.

“It is a Chinese peacock.” We pat our backs in minor triumph.

We move a little to the left to find three brilliant rendered charcoal artworks of what appears to be a British building. “It is my alma mater, the Lawrence School in Sanawar,” explains Manjit.

“Till a few years back, there was always a Bala in that school.”

He then recounts the time when there were no less than 16 Balas at Lawrence and people used to come in from all over to watch them fit into an Ambassador car. “It was quite a sight,” chuckles Manjit.

Floral motifs are a recurrent visual theme throughout the Bala home and showcase the family's aesthetic sensibility The Bala home, like the family itself, is a happy juxtaposition of different personalities, each of who help in bring a lot of colour to the place where they live. A Tudor style faux fireplace is adorned by the very precious Lady In The Gazebo, one of the 1000 pieces in the world, ever made by Lladro on the one hand, to exquisitely detailed miniature paintings of Goa which cost more to frame than they were to buy, on the other.

The immaculately crafted Theodore Alexander accent pieces, so heavy that it takes six men to pick them up and so brilliantly engineered that they can glide across the room with just a firm push are a contrast to the loving way in which Dolly has preserved her mother’s memory.

Gorgeous roses from her mother’s sarees cut out, framed and hung at vantage points through the home, they form a wonderful sense of continuum from one generation to another.

At this point, we are joined by Dolly’s father Col. (Retd) M.S. Gill, a decorated army officer who served in the 1965 and 1971 wars, and Aditya, Manjit and Dolly’s son, a strapping young lad who is already making strong waves as a swimmer. Becoming a part of their free-flowing conversation it is easy to understand why the Bala residence looks the way it does – it is a home where diversity is both a catalyst and synonym for harmony.

These are the days that bring the rollicking spirit back into our lives and give us innumerable reasons to smile. These are the days of our festivities

N

otwithstanding the fact that they acquire new dimensions once every few years, festivals are not a new concept in organised societies. In fact, they go back to the time when our ancestors, during the course of their evolution, realised that there was a deep sense of happiness in activities that brought people together.

Festivals have grown from that point onward and have become increasingly multi-faceted. According to theatre director David Binder, there are manifold reasons why festivals have multiplied their popularity quotient with the passage of time. “Festivals promote diversity,” he says. “They bring neighbours into dialogue, they increase creativity, they

offer opportunities for civic pride and they improve our general psychological well-being.”

DLF5, over time, has developed a reputation for pulling out all the stops for occasions worthy of a celebration.

The festive season is a wonderful display of the spirit of camaraderie which has become a DLF5 hallmark. It makes its presence felt in celebrations that stem from the collective heart of a city, that is a great place to live, work and play.

As with everything that has gone on to become an integral part of the cultural fabric, it is tough, actually impossible, to single out that one reason which makes festivals such a sought-after time of the year. It is always a combination of

The contemporary context of urban living practically mandates that people live extremely busy lives. Not just the adults, but children also have to contend

when I can put my feet up, relax and lose myself amidst close family members without any external thoughts. It is an excuse, or a reason, however we see it, to be with those we love.” “And, of course, take a day off,” he laughs.

Ratna Vira, whose debut novel, ‘Daughter By Court Order’ is now well on its way to being described as a modernday classic, agrees wholeheartedly.

“Festivals are a much-needed break from routine life,” she says. “They are a reason to plan, pause and celebrate the passage of time and the changing of seasons. Festivals are also an occasion to reach out to people who are special.

it means making that extra effort to include her and to be with her.”

A Time To Revisit Our Roots Most festivals are closely linked to tradition. In fact, festivals are often those metaphorical bridges which connect us to our past and point the way forward to a glorious future. That is perhaps the reason why the importance of festivals in our lives can neither be overstated nor denied. “As one grows up, festivals become a moment to not only renew your attachment to the prevailing traditions or country, but also to get away from the daily routines or stresses and enjoy the small things in life,” says Chiara Lo Faro, who has made DLF5 her home. “That special sweet that

is made only on the occasion of that festival or those traditional clothes you wear around that time are all tokens that bring you back to your childhood.”

A Time To Indulge There is not a single festival anywhere in the world that does not pride itself on its gastronomical spread. These are the times when you shed away all inhibitions and indulge to your heart’s content. It is not for nothing that the term, ‘Holiday Weight’ has made its way into our lexicon. “Every festival begins with calling loved ones and ends up with a stomach too full of food and sweets,” says Sanil. “It is even better because we have food connoisseurs and a Cordon Bleu chef in the family.”

Festivities are fun, but they are also a time to pause and reflect and be thankful for all the blessings of life

“New clothes and food play a big role in all celebrations,” adds Ratna. “My daughter loves clothes and my son is a foodie. So both play a role.” Chiara Lo Faro seconds the opinion.

“While you eat your favourite festival dish, your mind goes back in time and reminds you of your carefree times, bringing a smile to your face. This always puts me in a good mood.”

A Time For Reflection Festivals undoubtedly, are all about fun with a capital F. But they are also a time to pause, reflect and be thankful for all the blessings of life. This aspect of celebrations is of particular significance to Ratna. “For me, festivals are about renewal and growth,” she says. “It is also a time to think of those who, for various reasons, personal or otherwise, cannot celebrate with us, particularly when we see the tragedies around us.”

Festivals then, are also a time to say a little prayer for peace. Amen.

ccording to the distinguished fashion designer Rachel Zoe, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Comfort and uniqueness are the two most important aspects of fashion – be it an outfit or a footwear. This is why, the demand for bespoke shoes – made with utmost care, finest craftsmanship, minute detailing and tailored to an individual’s own choice is gaining popularity amidst new-age millennials in our country. This is due to the fact that designing and working with a master shoemaker, to create your very own pair of shoes is a completely new and different experience from stepping into a footwear store and choosing from a line of ready-made shoes.

Unlike the consumers who need to remember their shoe sizes, one who opts for a pair of bespoke shoes can do away with these trivial details. The bespoke experience is personal, which means every fine curvature of your foot will be considered while making the shoes.

The elaborate and arduous process starts with the measurement of a foot. To ensure the best fit, measurements are taken at strategic locations of the foot, and the shoemaker uses both linear as well as volume measurement to construct a shoe last. Nowadays, however, digital scanners are used to save time and achieve the most accurate measurements and anatomical

When one opts for a pair of bespoke shoes, it means they are one-of-a-kind and it takes skill and hard work to be able to deliver that information of the foot. From this data, the shoe wright makes the shoe last which is used to give a pleasing and visually striking appearance to the shoe.

The next stage comprises of mapping the toe shape of the foot. For women, the heel height needs to be selected along with the foot toe, given that it is on this basis that the shoe last is made.

Snip toe, Square toe, Round toe, D-Toe, J-Toe, R-Toe, W-Toe, U-Toe, and Roper Toe are some of the common toe shapes for men, whereas Peep Toe, Pointed Toe, and Round Toe are the shapes for women.

Once the shoe last is done, design, leather and trim selection come next.

Traditionally the best shoes have been made from tanned calf leather. Welted shoes can also be made of horse hide.

With the design being finalised, the model drawing is transferred directly onto the wooden last. ravelling is the best way to be lost and found at the same time! There is a tropical paradise in Indonesia and it is called Bali!

This gorgeous island and province is a traveller’s dream and a photographer’s delight. Tropical forests and mountains, beautiful waterfalls and rich culture with stunning historical monuments scale the diameters of this lush green utopia, while gorgeous beaches, envelop this mystical land so playfully!

Travelling in the month of June was nothing short of a blessing for us as the weather was just fabulous! Temperatures ranging from 24 to 27 degrees is what we experienced all throughout our 10-day long vacation. The first leg of our journey was Ubud, a centrally located village in the uplands of Bali, so we could cover the inland attractions easily, without having to scale long distances. We were pleasantly surprised to find the village of Ubud so upmarket and

buzzing with high end Ralph Lauren boutiques (and more of the kind) and open air Mediterranean pubs. The Ubud Palace and the Monkey Forest are two of the most popular local attractions. We visited Tanah Lot, a rock temple built in the sea. Beautiful rice terrace plantations can also be visited while in Ubud!

The cuisine tradition here in the land of volcanoes is Balinese, which demonstrates culinary influences from other cuisines like Indonesian, Chinese and Indian. Bumbu, meaning a spice paste, is very staple to Balinese cuisine. The island’s inhabitants are predominantly Hindu and they worship Ganesha, Shiva, and many other Hindu gods like we do. There are a lot of restaurants that offer vegetarian and vegan food in Bali. Red rice is the least grown and most expensive rice here. It is mainly used as temple offerings.

Balinese handicrafts and stone craftsmanship are impeccable. They specialise in sculpting “lava” stones, which are formed as a result of the solidification of hot lava that flows out of Bali’s active volcanoes. It was very exciting to see volcanoes with their craters and hot geysers with smoke, from our aircraft while flying through the Balinese airspace. We had a close shave too since the day we flew back, almost three hours later, Mt. Agung, a volcano, erupted, sending panic across the island and forcing the airport to shut down. It threw the flight schedules and travellers in chaos!

The next leg of our vacation was Nusa Dua, the quieter side of Bali with high-end resort properties and beautiful beaches. Living in a villa on the beach is completely therapeutic, both for the body and the mind! It is worth every penny you invest in it. The tropical sea breeze and sound of the ocean waves washing down the shore are a right mix of therapy and melody, which have such a detoxifying and soothing effect on the body and mind! Beach life, is the best life!

There are a lot of places which are at an hour’s drive from Nusa Dua like Kuta, Seminyak, Jimbaran and Ulluwatu.

For a rejuvenating as well as relaxing clubbing experience, Potatohead Beach Club in Seminyak is a must visit. Rocking music, exquisite food and fabulous crowd is what this beach club has to offer.

Brace yourself for nasty traffic snarls to get there. Another must visit place is The Rock Bar in Jimbaran. This bar, spectacularly built on a rocky cliff, which is a part of Hotel Amaya, is very popular for its mesmerising sunsets. Foot-tapping trance music, a wonderful selection of gourmet delicacies for non-vegetarians as well as vegetarians, wonderful crowd and spellbinding views are what it has to offer!

There are numerous coffee plantations all over Bali! The one we visited was in Ulluwatu and is called the Lumbung Sari coffee plantation. Here we saw the very interesting Luwak cat, from whose feces they extract the Luwak Coffee! Commonly known as “poo coffee”, it is the most expensive white coffee in the world!

Many other beautiful islands surround Bali and are absolutely untouched and non-commercial. The one we

visited was Nusa Penida. The beauty and serenity we chanced upon in this little heaven was magical and indescribable in words – I would fall short of superlatives. The spellbinding Klungkung beach with white sand and pristine turquoise water; Broken beach with sting rays swimming at vision distance; and Angel’s Billabong, which is a natural rock pool—are the three places of interest in this otherwise rural, agricultural and small island. Access roads are not very pleasing though.

But, it is definitely worth all the trouble and no matter where you are in Bali, there is always some good local beer to cheer you!

Bali has so much to offer, it is your choice how much you want to soak in! The choices are endless and adventures are never ending! It is more than a place—it is a mood and it feels magical to be here. It is a tropical state of mind! Unless you go, you will never know. If happiness is the goal, and it should be, then adventures should be a priority. Life is meant for spectacular adventures. Let your feet wander, your eyes marvel and your soul ignite, because Bali is always a good idea!

ith the sole exception of, perhaps, a prodigious yawn, there is nothing quite as infectious as a hearty laugh. It emanates from deep within and reaches out to happily embrace everyone in the immediate vicinity. DLF5 resident Anupama Jain has that kind of a laugh. A mere minute into our conversation and we are happily chatting about a mutual favourite literary hero, P.G. Wodehouse. “I wish I had a Jeeves in my life,” she says, referring to the urbane and very British character in Wodehouse novels whose mission in life was to rescue protagonist Bertie Wooster from perils of his own making.

Anupama Jain's debut novel, ‘When Padma Bani Paula’, a coming-of-age story set in contemporary India, has been creating ripples since it was released a couple of months ago and has quickly made the transition from amazon.in to amazon. com. Spurred on by the cracking pace that Anupama sets up throughout the narrative and buoyed by the delightful doses of humour peppered throughout the book, the novel follows the journey of Padma, a middle-class girl who leaves home for the very first time to pursue a master’s degree. She does that and then enters the thrust-and-parry world of a corporate organisation. Rising rapidly through the ranks, she runs full-tilt into the proverbial brick wall when the parental pressure to get married and ‘settled’ starts to mount.

The book is a delightful read and it is easy to identify with the characters in the story. That may be the biggest reason why When Padma Bani Paula has found nearinstant and widespread acceptance. “My journey as an author is barely five years old,” says Anupama. “I have had a typical South Indian middle-class upbringing where acquiring a professional degree was paramount. Schooling and college were spent doing just that. My father made sure we read all sorts of books and my mother took care of the linguistics.”

I then let loose on the poor unsuspecting public.”

‘When Padma Bani Paula’ is a not an autobiographical work. Not by a long shot. But the one aspect of the novel that is an extension of the writer’s personality is the terrific sense of humour that permeates the entire book. “If you do not laugh, troubles will overtake you,” says Anupama who credits both her parents for her ability to laugh at whatever life

tosses her way. “They both have a great sense of humour,” she explains.

The success of ‘When Padma Bani Paula’ will allow Anupama to take bigger strides in what is already a well-acknowledged and appreciated career as an author.

She is an avid blogger who jots down her thoughts and opinions under the handle, Akka Acerbic, she writers short stories and is currently toying with the idea of two-line stories.

However, her continually expanding profile does not imply that Anupama Jain will diversify to the point of being unrecognisable. “You must write what you love to read,” she says, and that is a pretty uncompromising yardstick by any standard.

DLF5 residents Romy Soin and Meetul Dixit are making their mark as artists that specialise in the art of reinvention

here is an age-old proverb that goes, “creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.”

It is the synergy of two creative minds has gone into the making of 'Ink & Arch'. The label is a creation of Romy Soin and Meetul Dixit, who aim at producing avante garde furniture and bespoke home décor products.

Ink & Arch specialises in providing a complete makeover to home furniture in

order to help it complement the current décor of your home space. Be it serving trays, glass top tables, napkin holders or even a wall that needs a bit of refashioning – the brand aims at bestowing the ‘artsy’ touch to mundane furniture to make it a unique décor item.

According to Soin and Dixit, their journey began with a chest of drawers which had been staring at them for years with a jaded brown look. Thus, commenced a journey of transformation to create a

piece of art with unconventional colours.

Soon the ordinary browns were replaced with aquamarines, ivory and turquoises.

The experience was rewarding and the designer duo was transforming ordinary furniture into decorative pieces of art.

They have grown from strength to strength and now create exquisite pieces, combining the timeless elegance of vintage and contemporary feel with élan. The driving concept of the label is exclusivity and each of their wood and glass-topped tables are

sui generis. The method of staining the wood with colour gives the pieces a unique look. All the pieces are hand-painted and immaculately polished to bring out the utmost perfection.

"Art is not what you see but what you make others see". Ink & Arch murals and wall frames are an example of this. Soin and Dixit know the subtle art of bringing the outdoors indoors. An insipid corner of a room can be enlivened by the colourful fresco artwork of palms and monstera on the wall helping the freshness of the garden make its way inside the room.

Soin, an established silk painting artist having made her mark in designing saris and scarves, is of the opinion that she has merely shifted her canvas. “Every piece is a labour of love,” she says. Dixit, on the other hand, is a trained graphic designer who has designed logos for many corporate establishments and has been a consultant designer with the WHO. She has been the creative force behind the brand Ink & Arch. Both are the residents of Exclusive Floors in DLF 5. This was also the venue for their first exhibition.

The response of their maiden exhibition was overwhelming, and they now plan to exhibit their creativity at more avenues.

“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end." – this quote sums up the driving inspiration behind Ink & Arch which is the teamwork of two women, armed with colour and creativity, and out to carve a niche for themselves.

One is the adrenalin rush that occurs while we gear up for an adventurous trip.

The other is a sense of accomplishment that one experiences after coming out

victorious and is definitely worth relishing time and again. This is what has always inspired Sanjay Gupta to go for varied adventure games and hobbies that he finds are full of life, passion, dedication and love.

A resident of DLF5 since 2004, Gupta has scaled a number of high altitude peaks in Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. With a special affinity toward snow-clad peaks and valleys, he has been to places like Stok Kangri, Kang Yatze and the famous

frozen river trek of Zanskar. Gupta, very recently added another achievement to his hall of success by scaling the Uhuru peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in the African continent and highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Born and brought up in Dehradun, the ExIITian (Kanpur) thinks that he always had a ‘pahari’ element hidden in him because of his upbringing amidst the mountains.

It was with NCC Kanpur that he was initiated into trekking for the first time and had an opportunity to get acquainted with the outdoors. “It was at the age of 45 that I realised I had been completely trapped into the rat race of career building and my health was showing early signs of trouble.

It was then that I decided to wrest back control of my health, my time and my life!

Since then, I have been doing two or more treks a year,” shares Gupta.

Valley of Flowers was his first trekking destination. Since then, Stok Kangri, Goecha La, Kang Yatze, Chadar Trek and finally Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2015, constitute some of the most notable treks he has undertaken. “Last year, I also attempted Mt. Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in Europe, but fell sick before the final summit attempt,” Gupta shares.

Trekking is an adventure sport that demands you to be extremely physically fit and active.

While getting himself prepared for trekking, Gupta fell in love with running. Soon after, he started running marathons and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The London Marathon 2018, New Delhi Full Marathon, and Airtel Delhi Half Marathon are some

of the prestigious marathons he has taken part and completed successfully. “I managed to complete the whole course within my target time, despite it being the hottest day in London,” Gupta recounts his experience of The London Marathon, which happens to be one of the top six marathons of the world and the biggest in size.

Gupta has also been dabbling in cycling and other adventure sports simultaneously.

His wife Deepti, often joins him in his escapades as they both put in a lot of efforts in keeping themselves physically and emotionally fit and battle-ready. Initially, his family was a bit apprehensive about participating in these high-risk sports, but now he has the full-support of his wife and his two daughters. “Together we have done cycling in the hills of Bali, Indonesia and also along the coast of Kerala from Cochin to Verkala. We have also done scuba diving in the Andamans, paragliding in Mauritius, jet ski safari in Australia, river rafting in Manali and Rishikesh,” Gupta tells proudly.

There is a long bucket list waiting for this adventure-lover who likes to stay fit and prepared, so that he could grab any opportunity life throws at him.

Be it a major decision that needs to be carried out, overcoming fear and hesitation or gaining inner strength – sometimes, we all need a bit of help from the outside to make the impossible, possible. Anjana Motihar Chandra’s recently launched e-book, ‘Finding Your Joy Within: A Tale of Personal Mastery’, proves to be one such tool that aims at helping people overcome fears and hurdles. A self-help book that describes an individual’s search for happiness, peace of mind and personal fulfilment, it traces the life of a fictional character, Natasha, whose low self-esteem and feeling of unworthiness, developed in her childhood made her feel as if she was in a mental prison. The book traces the journey of the protagonist’s gradual transformation towards her true identity, and how she learns about self-love, self-awareness and self-acceptance.

A wellness coach, published writer and copy-editor, Anjana has spent over 15 years working for a variety of media organisations. Her work in communication is founded on a deep interest in human behaviour and the workings of the human mind which was fostered during her undergraduate years as a Psychology major. It was this passion that led Anjana to become a coach and support individuals in living the best lives they could live. Anjana has an intuitive approach to coaching and helps clients uncover their authentic selves. It enables them to be true to themselves, transform their thinking and open up their minds to new and limitless possibilities.

“In this book, I have tried to sketch the difficulties that many of us go through in our lives. Each chapter comes with important aspects that are summed up in the end. I have tried to pass on my messages to the reader through different stories and characters, which, I am sure,

pooch’s body. The question that remains, is how to get these toxins out of their bodies? The two organs that have the responsibility of removing toxins from the body are the kidneys and the liver.

Just as we go on a specific diet while we are on a detox, dogs also need to be put on a detox diet on a regular basis – for two weeks, twice a year. For detox, one can

feed the pet with either of these recipes: moong daal khichdi; rice and carrot soup; rice and chicken with vegetable broth; or rice with pumpkin soup, twice a day. A bit of ghee or coconut oil should be added to each of the recipes. The type of recipe should be rotated on different days.

Apart from the detox diet, certain herbs should be added to the recipes or a tea made from these herbs can be given to the dog. To make the tea, simply add a cup of water to a few sprigs of the herb. Boil the water on low heat until one-fourth of the quantity is achieved – it ensures that all the water-soluble contents of the herbs get properly mixed with water. The colour of the water will change. Cool it off and feed it to your dog. The herbs that can be used for a liver cleanse are: dandelion (Sinhparni) and country gooseberry (Bhoomi Amla).

Use dandelion by simply boiling the root in water, whereas for country gooseberry, the plant needs to be plucked along with its root and boiled in water.

A tea made of herbs like chicory (Kaasni) or puncture wine (Gokshura) can come to your rescue in this respect. For chicory, boil the leaves and feed it to your pet. For puncture wine, you can choose to boil the fruits or leaves or both.

In case your pet is a picky eater, you can add the tea to a little chicken or bone broth to make it appetising for your pooch. However, the teas are best served on an empty stomach.

A regular detox will make your dog more energetic and lively. Pets are also likely to become happier and calmer post a detox.

Every organ is associated with a different emotion. For example, the liver is said to be associated with anger and kidneys with fear. Once all of these organs are cleaned, these negative emotions and their detrimental effects on health are also taken away. So, detox your dog and witness a blissful companion.

magine a place where 270 degrees of the horizon is made up of snow-capped mountains, and the rest by the sea. Imagine a city with trees laden with cherry blossoms; maples and pines reaching the sky; verdant green grass all around; and every balcony and window box overflowing with flowers.

That place happens to be my second home – Seattle, tucked away in the North-West corner of United States.

It also happens to be the home to Boeing, with the world's largest factory, along with some of the world's biggest

companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Nordstrom, Costco, Starbucks, Alaska Airlines, and scores more.

I fell in love with this place on my very first visit. As the plane prepared to land, my eyes popped out. We were coming in over the Pacific coast, with the ocean stretching on one side, and white peaks with pine green bodies spread out all over, spiced with a dozen turquoise, azure and sapphire blue lakes.

There is the iconic Pike Place fish market right in downtown, with the first ever Starbucks across the pavement. The

place is full of artisan eateries. Viewing from the gallery of the market, you get a grand sight of the Puget Sound (Pacific Ocean inlet) and the snow-covered Olympic mountain range to the west.

Less than a half mile walk is the Seattle Public Library, which happens to be an architectural wonder besides being a storehouse of knowledge. A must visit place is Leavenworth—a village built in the Bavarian style by its German immigrant residents and nestled in the mountains, its eateries serve delectable German food and locally brewed German beer. Do not forget to visit the Boeing factory. They have ticketed tours inside

Seattle is considered to be the coffee capital of the world. The Pioneer Square area next to downtown, is full of beautiful, quaint coffee shops, each offering a dozen variants where they show you the 747 Jumbo and 787 Dreamliners getting made inside the huge factory.

Seattle is divided into two halves by Lake Washington, an 88km water body connected to the Puget Sound and through that to the Pacific Ocean. Seattle is sandwiched between two giant sleeping volcanoes - Mount Rainier to the south and Mount Olympic to the west. The east side has towns like Bellevue (home to Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and similar), Redmond (Microsoft headquarters), and Kirkland.

Seattle is considered to be the coffee capital of the world. The Pioneer Square

area next to downtown, between 1st and 3rd Avenues, is full of beautiful coffee shops, each offering a dozen variants.

A coffee lover like me could spend a fortnight enjoying each of these but I had to make do with one from each café.

If you do get a craving for Indian food, try out Guilt Trip in Redmond.

They have chicken wings marinated in tamarind and serve rabri and malpua for dessert. For Indian Chinese, there is IngChing, and there is CanAm that serves pizzas with toppings like butter chicken and paneer varieties. Their pizza base is closer to naan.

One note of caution - winters in Seattle are usually overcast and dripping.

The clouds hide the view. The slopes open for skiing and winter sports, and the daylight hours are short. The recommended season is spring and summer, when you can still catch skiing till April 3rd week.

For getting around, you can rent a car if you have an international driving license and are comfortable with US driving rules. Uber is available in plenty. And also there is excellent bus service, but then you should buy an ‘Orca’ bus pass since the drivers do not return change.

hough the trend of biopics turning into big hits can be traced back to the early 1930s, we rarely tend to miss a chance to watch any biography even today. Cinema has always liked telling a stimulating life story, and these stories have been given a filmic going-over, to turn their stimulating narratives into the

'trope' of a biographical movie. 'Biopic' is a term derived from the combination of two words – biography and pictures.

These films depict and dramatise the life of an important historical personage (or group) from the past or present era. The aim of a biographical feature is to explore and unravel the real-life, enigmatic stories of significant individuals, the famous and

the infamous, the secretive to the well documented, the dead and the living.

From the very recent Oscar-winning The Revenant (2015) to a biopic like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007), biopics have always been successful in gaining critical applauds and sometimes bitter criticism from eminent film critics. Here is what all you should know about this specific genre:

‘Based on a true story’?

A story can have various truths, various versions seen and perceived through different perspectives. The beauty of a film, after all, is in its ability to end—giving our lives neat and tidy conclusions. When we watch these moderately fictionalised events of someone’s life, it is important to keep in mind that everything that is being shown on the silver screen, may not be the same that actually happened in that person’s life. Biopics should be seen as exemplary features, which represent a ‘slice of life’ for us to learn something from the 'larger than life' existence of our global personalities. That ‘something’ is often an insight into our own lives and the world around us. In so-called true stories that are made these days, real-life complexities—and consequences—are often sacrificed for good storytelling.

Therefore, creating controversies out of a biographical feature will not only limit our take-aways from the creation, it will also make the whole purpose of watching a film futile – we seek not a factual truth from a movie, but an emotional one. When the story ends, we are presented with an epilogue about the incidents of the main characters’ later lives, assuring us that everybody got what they deserved, good or bad.

Into the Wild (2007) Directed by Sean Penn, this gripping biographical feature tells the real-life story of Christopher McCandless's journeys and hitchhikes across the American continent. A wanderer and true seeker, the movie shows how travel can change our perceptions towards life.

A combination of chronic insecurity and insistent self-assertion threatens both leaders and the public in the Internet age. Leaders, because they are less of originators of their programmes and more of a seeker of

domination by willpower or charisma.

Previous generations of Western leaders performed their democratic role, while recognising that leadership did not consist of simply executing the results of public polls on a day-to-day basis. Tomorrow’s generations may prove reluctant to exercise leadership independent of

data-mining techniques, even as their mastery of the information environment may reward them with re-election for pursuing cleverly targeted, short-term policies. In such an environment, the participants in the public debate risk being less driven by reasoned arguments than by what catches the mood of the moment. These attitudes reflect in part, the complexity of defining an identity in the age of social media. Hailed as a breakthrough in human relations, social media encourages the sharing of the maximum amount of information personal or political. Side by side, with limitless opportunities being opened up by the new technologies, reflection about international order must include the internal dangers of societies that are driven by mass consensus, deprived of the context, and also those who need foresight on terms compatible with their historical character.

In the decades following World War II, a sense of world community seemed on the verge of arising. The industrially advanced regions of the world were exhausted from war; the underdeveloped parts were beginning their process of decolonisation and redefining their identities. All that was needed was cooperation rather than confrontation. e all have busy lives and are trying to juggle many responsibilities. So how do we make sure the relationships that matter the most are getting their needs met? What matters more – the quality or the quantity of time we get to spend together? I would say both. We need both to sustain any relationship, be it with our children or our partner. So how do we do it and maintain our sanity?

If you are not having family meals together, turn the television off and figure out which meal you can try to have together as a family, even it is a bowl of cereal, before everyone runs in their own direction!

There are 168 hours in one week. If, on an average, we have eight hours of sleep at night and 8 hours of work from Monday to Friday, that leaves us with 72 additional hours. If you are working more than 40 hours a week and struggling to balance your relationships, you may want to reconsider what makes you happy and what are your goals in life.

The same is applicable if you have a long commute because you may need a different job, house, or reconsider what you have with what you want. Unrequited dreams are a hot topic in most counselling sessions between couples, but are usually masked behind arguments of finances, child rearing, and sex.

With your spouse, make those little moments big. Make greetings or goodbyes impactful enough, so that you do not have to wonder if you said, “I love you.” It only takes a few minutes to to slow down the things that you were doing, to show them how much they do matter. You do not need to be perfect all the times. But children do learn a lot from their parents by seeing their lifestyles, health choices, etc. So if they see you eating healthy, they will take a notice of your efforts. Couples should do some activities together that boost your pleasure levels, such as hitting the gym, walking the dog, or pursuing your favourite hobby. If you can take out five hours a week with your partner, your relationship will have vast improvements.

Seventy-two hours is a lot of time when you look at it! Setting aside 10 minutes a day with your children will do wonders for your ability to communicate with them. Held from 8th-10th August, the tournament saw the participation of approximately 60 juniors from eight countries. DLF had a significant presence at the tournament with six juniors from the DLF Golf Excellence Program having played the Hong Kong Juniors this year, even as Hitaashee Bakshi emerged winner

in the Girls 13-14 years category; Kartik Sharma holding the Runnerup position in the Boys 15-17 years category and Sunhit Bishnoi attaining the third place in the Boys 15-17 years category. They were accompanied by Akhil Nayar, Senior Professional at the DLF Golf Academy.

The DLF Golf Excellence Program, supported by the DLF Foundation, has selected 12 junior boys and girls in the age group of 12-18 years who train at the

DLF Golf Academy at the DLF Golf & Country Club. All facilities for training in golf, fitness, nutrition; playing and practice facilities and assistance for travel are provided by the program that envisages providing promising players all the necessary resources and facilities required to excel at the international level. CREATIONS ON CANVAS The Magnolias at DLF5 witnessed some amazing display of artworks at the hands of Pehel Uppal, a young and budding talent

ehel Uppal, a talented six-yearold resident of DLF5 showcased an exhibition of her artworks at The Magnolias in DLF5. The pieces of art bore testimony to the child’s prodigious talent. All of the 12 artworks on display had great precision of colour which spoke of Pehel’s sheer brilliance as an artist.

The Uppal residence was teeming with visitors, who were amazed at the creative abilities of the young talent who stood innocently amidst all the action. The child got the blessings of all the visitors to the exhibition. There were those who just seemed to enjoy the freshness of the paintings that added to the opulence of the foyer of the house.

Pehel said she started to paint at the age of four. She was seen ushering in all the guests to her home and took them through all her artworks. All of them were painted either in oil or acrylic colours. Her paintings showed a perfect mix of adept hands and an innocent mind. “She loved to illustrate since she was a toddler. She would make drawings wherever she could. She loved making greeting cards for us. It has been a year since she started receiving

professional training.” said Parul Uppal, Pehel’s mother.

Amongst Pehel’s faourite artworks includes an oil painting depicting a tree with round silver leaves amidst a blue background and a painting of a melancholy bird marked by the silhouette of a sunset as the backdrop. A mesmerising affair, must say!

LF5 recently hosted a bookreading session by noted historian Rana Safvi at the premises of Club5, where the author talked about her newly launched book ‘The Forgotten Cities of Delhi’. The author was in conversation with Asif Khan Dehlavi, founder of Delhi Karavan and photographer Mohammad Qasim, whose evocative photograph has been used as the cover of Safvi’s book.

Delhi suffered gradual withering with the passage of time.

The event was attended by a multidisciplinary audience – from intellectuals, history lovers, historians and art enthusiasts, belonging to diverse age groups. Safvi regaled the audience with her anecdotes, unique experiences and narratives from the pages of her book.

The discussion was themed around Ajay’s book, ‘Indians- A Coffee Table Book’, which comprises of a collection of black and white portraits taken by the author while pursuing an eventful and sometimes an arduous journey across the Indian sub-continent.

“Indians is an attempt for our country’s citizens to realise the richness in our diversity and to appreciate and embrace it. If we want to

make India a better place, we need to know our country,’’ shares Jain. One of the most influential figures and commentators in Indian travel history, Jain has always been vocal about exploring India through its roads because the true flavours of our multi-faceted country is much more than what has been written about it. A compilation of some of the portraits shot

by Jain over 10 years, the book is a portrayal of our country, perceived through the lens of Jain.

The event witnessed an eclectic assemblage of academics, travel enthusiasts,

photographers and storytellers that belonged to diverse age groups. An interactive audiovisual session was held where the author held a packed audience in thrall with his captivating travel stories of road tripping and self-driving throughout India with consummate ease. “A lakh kilometre self-driven journey, unique stories and then such photographs. Yes, we are talking about the FIFA screening of the World Cup that took place at The Crest Clubhouse.

Located at Park Drive, Gurugram, The Clubhouse is a part of the luxury project, The Crest, which is the latest offering of DLF5.

The residents of DLF5 had a grand time enjoying the football matches in a community space, with people cheering, applauding and celebrating their favourite teams in the tournament, as the World Cup unfolded.

The FIFA World Cup 2018 was an occasion of many firsts.

This was the first time when Croatia, a war-torn tiny country made its way to the final. The defending champion, Germany, could not make it to the knock-out stage and had to return home at the group league stage. The host country, Russia, performed surprisingly well while Argentinian supporters heaved heavy sighs of loss when Lionel Messi failed to spread his charismatic brilliance even in the group league.

According to the critics, this World Cup was the “league of the underdogs”. While the big names dropped out one by one, it was the underdogs – Uruguay, Mexico, Senegal, Japan, South Korea and Belgium proving their worth repeatedly in this tournament. Be it the smugness that made Germany lose to South Korea, Lionel Messi’s quest for that one trophy that might legitimise his billing as Diego Maradona’s equal in the eyes of his countrymen, Cristiano Ronaldo being unable to pull the whole Portugal team by himself or the tragicomedy that is England’s relation with the World Cup knockouts – DLF5 residents seemed to soak up the excitement in the air thoroughly and enjoyed every match, from start to finish.

CELEBRATING FREEDOM The sixth edition of the DLF5 Freedom Run witnessed enthusiastic participation and was a grand celebration of our nation’s 72nd Independence Day

T

he day when the largest democracy in the world stepped into its 72nd year of Independence with the entire country opening up its colourful wings in full glory, residents of DLF5 participated in the Freedom Run held in the early morning on 15th August, starting at Club5.

The planned route of the marathon spread across the various condominiums at DLF5 and the participants ran to proclaim their joy of freedom, energising the area with zeal and enthusiasm.

Over 1,300 residents from all the condominiums of DLF5 took part in the run that spanned over five kilometres.

The marathon was flagged off from Club5 at Club Drive with the route taking the runners past The Horizon Center, with a turn near DLF Golf and Country Club to The Belaire, finally culminating at The Crest.

The full-day resident engagement event started off with the hoisting of the tricolour and a rendition of the national anthem by students of Lancers International and Ipsaa Day Care. Needless to say, the event indeed was a marvelous sight to witness with residents across all age groups taking part in the run and enjoying the spirit of freedom. The flag hoisting being the fundamental part of the event, it led to an inspired and much-anticipated DLF5 Freedom Run. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Aakash Ohri, Senior Executive Director, DLF5 said that the day holds a great importance in the heart of every Indian. The residents of DLF5 came

together to celebrate the day with immense enthusiasm. The camaraderie amongst the residents as they rejoiced in the spirit of the Independence Day was a visual treat.

To further cherish the day of the nation’s birth, The Crest hosted a singing and dancing session “Showcase your talent” after the completion of the Freedom Run. After unfurling of the flag, residents enjoyed cultural programmes in their respective residential complexes. Additionally, to add gaiety to the event, a rolling trophy between DLF5’s 13 condominiums was awarded to Princeton, for the maximum participation of its residents in the run.

A heartwarming tale of a grand old lady in Goa, who has lived a full life and who found an ingenious way of ensuring that she has her family's full attention

rs. Braganza was a portly old lady. At 88, she was more social than an 18-year-old.

Mrs. Braganza then told me about her glorious life.

She has travelled the country with her husband, has two doting sons and a few grand-children

The grand old Portuguese house she has lived in for seven decades in Goa, was crumbling.

But each wall, each brick seemed to tell a story. She has been telling her sons to help her with getting the house refurbished but they want her to sell it. But Mrs. Braganza was not giving up her freedom any time soon. She has been managing her life quite well since her husband passed away, despite all the challenges that rear their unpleasant heads from time-to-time.

I met her while taking an idle walk in the bylanes of Goa last summer. Attracted by the former glory of the grand house, I made my way in from the small and inviting gate, which was open with no latch, lock or bell. I was hoping to just admire the garden and take a few pictures.

Soon enough I heard a commanding voice. She had spotted me, the intruder.

She called me in to where she was. This was her vantage point, from where she could see the gate, keep an eye on her house help and admire her beautiful inhouse garden, and also the place from where she could call out passing by folks.

She asked my name in the gentlest of voices. I could not help but notice her table - full of medicines, syrups, pickles, fruits, diaries, notes, cash and a landline.

Her mobile (not smartphone) was hanging from her neck in a case.

She asked me to open her (weathered) diary and flip to alphabet T, look for Tony and if I could dial it from her phone. She made a straightforward conversation with Tony. Later she told me that Tony was the truant fisherman who supplies her fish and needs a not-so-gentle reminder every day.

Mrs. Braganza then told me about her glorious life. She has travelled the country

with her husband, has two sons and a few grand-children. I could make out from our conversation that her sons care for her. Both the sons are in different cities, but come to Goa often. Mrs. Braganza buys gifts for her family and waits for their call. Almost always, she is told they loved it. And that makes the old lady content.

Among her many tales, one stayed with me. After tea, she said, “Now is the time I call my elder son. I press 8 to talk to him.” She likes to call both her sons and give them a scare occasionally about her failing health, the old lady confessed. This time she did not need my help in dialing.

She explained her sons’ numbers are on speed dial, and for others she needs to look up in the diary to call.

She pressed 8 on the keypad and said a sombre “hello”. And then for what lasted about 15-20 minutes, all I could hear was muffled annoyed tones from the other side, while Mrs. Braganza tried hard to control her chuckles.

As I got up to leave, she said, “You must have found the call a bit odd,” and happily put my inquisitiveness to rest with her explanation, “I have everything. The only thing I want is not to let go of my sons. They both will stop caring for me if I do not make these calls and tell them I am unwell. For as long as I live, I want be an integral part of their busy lives. And this is an infallible way to ensure that. So, I press 8 to whine.”

Club5’s premises buzzed with enthusiasm, as Gurugram sailed along an extraordinary voyage of portraits at a book discussion session by a traveller photo artist Ajay Jain, on his book ‘Indians – A Coffee Table Book’.

Continuing the initiative of making Club5 the sanctum of culture, while also keeping in mind the varied interests of a diverse population, another intellectual discussion was organised at Club5 with entrepreneurial skills by Sangeeta Talwar, the author of ‘2-Minute Revolution’.

Club5 also hosted a series of entertaining and delightful events for its members such as the Sweet Wednesdays – baking workshop, Ladies’ nights at Aqua Bar, Aqua Zumba sessions, Tambola Evenings, Gujarati Sunday Brunches at Portico, Master Class by ITC Master Chef, etc. A lot of members ardently participated and attended these events.

A MULTI-HUED HOLIDAY Gujarat is a land that stores a multitude of wonders within its boundaries. From history to wildlife to modern industry, this is diversity at its very best

ujarat, for me, was always limited to Ahmedabad and Baroda; I could, occasionally, add Anand and Jamnagar to it and that was about it.

During the winter of 2012, while travelling close to the South-Western coast of Gujarat, we covered an enormous range of locations and realised the huge tourism potential of the state. That holiday is etched in our memory as one of the most enjoyable travels.

The flight landed at Bhuj at around 4.30pm. We took the driver’s advice and made quick visits to some local sites before dark. He was right; Aaina Mahal and Prag Mahal that are both ‘not to be missed’. Built in the 18th and 19th century respectively, the latter is a fine example of Indian craftsmanship combined with European architectural design.

About an hour’s drive on excellent roads took us to village Dhordo and ‘Gateway to Rann’ – our abode for two nights. A beautiful cluster of conical roofed huts around a big central compound. Ours, called the Rajwadi room was a suite.

Tastefully furnished inside it had all amenities of a decent basic hotel; clever mix of Gujarati and Rajasthani décor, with a quaint satin canopy over the huge four poster bed. After a sumptuous dinner - of bajra roti, khichri with dollops of ghee, bhajias, gur, halwa etc., served lovingly as if it were a close relative’s home – we learnt that a sneak peek at the Rann was possible, but we shouldn’t linger on without the permit, which was to come in the morning. This is necessary because of the proximity to the Pakistan border. One look at the enormous expanse of white sand and salt is spell binding; but more of that tomorrow.

– quaintly charming hamlets, where local master craftsmen sell exquisite traditional handicrafts. We also had a glimpse of India Bridge and Guru Dattatreya temple, perched at an altitude of 1,500ft. at Kala Dungar.

The temple also offers a vantage point to view the efficient rain water conservation system below.

The Dhordo-Bhuj-Jamnagar drive the next morning presented its own charm.

The next day, 28th November, happened to be my better half ’s birthday which we were lucky enough to celebrate under a full moon sky, amidst the endless expanse of the salt marshes of Rann of Kutch that looked like snow.

We lingered on and marvelled at the ever changing scenery with the clouds playing games with the moon; till it was a little nippy. Mind blowing experience indeed. That experience was something we would never forget.

First, we visited the 19th century Kutch Museum at Bhuj. Built in Italian style on the banks of Hamirsar Lake, the museum displays a great collection of Kshtrapa inscriptions, arms from the region and specimens of local crafts. Up next was Jamnagar, an iconic city showcasing the prowess of industrial India, with world class factories of Reliance and Essar, Tata Chemical’s Mithapur plant and the nearby ports of Kandla and Mundhra.

Day 4, we were on the road to Dwarka, ancient capital of Lord Krishna’s kingdom. Overcrowded ferries which seem to survive only ‘with the grace of God’, smart market savvy pundits who could put an MBA to shame, clean and well-maintained places, pundits wearing uniforms of different colours, Dwarkadheesh temple—Dwarka was indeed a marvellous experience The next morning, we drove from Dwarka to Porbandar, birthplace of the Father

The picture gallery is a goldmine of rare photos from Gandhi ji’s life – a place where one could spend a whole day browsing through the life of that dhoti-clad fakir who single-handedly brought down the mighty British Empire to its knees.

Another jungle safari next morning plus a drive through the periphery of the jungle got us a real treat of not only watching the king and queen but also many other animals.

ago, at the exact spot where the original shrine was located. Sardar Patel was one of the eminent personalities who was instrumental in initiating this construction. After sunset this place hosts an enchanting light-and-sound show, with thespian Om Puri’s voiceover, recounting the facts and legends of the place. Located on the sea shore, with waves lashing at its boundary walls, the light-and-sound show is something you better not miss. It employs clever use of lights casting vivid images on the steeples and intricately carved walls and balconies of the magnificent temple and effectively casts a spell making you literally live through the glorious history.

Our great, multi-hued holiday having come to an end all too soon, the next morning we reached Diu with its predominantly Goan buildings, an ancient fort and the small airport for our return flight via Mumbai.

ARTY HEARTY FARE Café Amaretto combines contemporary art with a terrific menu to create an ambience worthy of a connoisseur

ucked away in a cosy nook on the lower ground floor of South Point Mall, Gurugram, Café Amaretto is a place that can certainly be described as soul junction. A winning combination of art and delectable cuisine, this is a café that hearkens to the spirit of the East Side Village when it was a vibrant hub of culture, art and great taste.

at the entrance and the white brick walls with their wonderful array of sketches and fusion paintings, create an ambience that is relaxed and conducive to great conversations. The experience is encapsulated in the words, Dolce Far Niente (which loosely translates as pleasant idle time) inscribed on the front door glass pane and Café Amaretto proved to be exactly that – it was very pleasant, featured great art and had a wonderful menu selection.

It was a bright sunny noon when we arrived at Amaretto. After settling down, the first thing we ordered was chicken skewers done Thai style. A flavourful mix of white wine, garlic, olive oil and rosemary with sweet chilli sauce, the dish hit the spot perfectly and proved to be a great start to the afternoon.

Café Amaretto, it must be mentioned, is a definite must for people who love Italian cuisine. We tried two pastas - Linguine

For all those days when a hearty appetite beckons, we recommend Amaretto’s Wood Roasted Chicken with mushroom sauce Jalapeno with chicken and broccoli was a treat to the taste buds. The other pasta dish with fresh tomato sauce and vegetables turned out to be a mouthwatering recipe with perfectly cooked red and yellow peppers and crunchy zucchini.

For all those days when a hearty appetite beckons, we recommend Amaretto’s Wood Roasted Chicken with mushroom sauce. It was, to put it simply, quite a revelation. As were the mashed potatoes which complimented the taste of the chicken to a nicety.

That is not to say that the Café has nothing to offer those who coming in looking for light bites and health-conscious options. In fact, the watermelon and feta salad with honey lime dressing was quite a delight.

Nothing elaborate, but the fact that it was a well-balanced mix of flavours made it stand out. It is the same with beverages too, where attention to detail and a warm homely feel elevates the experience of something as common as a glass of cold coffee.

Guilty pleasures seem to be a Café Amaretto speciality. We refer to the

dessert selection of course, which gives indulgence a whole new meaning.

The Chocolate Orange Mousse Cake was scrumptious and we had to exert conscious control to not go completely overboard when they presented the Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce.

Heavenly or sinful? It depends on an individual’s point of view but it is all pretty extraordinary.

“Authenticity and our promise to not compromise with the quality of the food is what makes this café stand apart,” says Shayal Taunk, the owner and creative spirit behind Café Amaretto.
