B R AD BUR N BR IEF Dear Sandy Resident, Happy September! Hopefully, this month brings cooler temperatures. There is still plenty of opportunities to enjoy Sandy’s awesome outdoor recreation while the weather is nice. This month, the city is unveiling the underground tunnel project funded by the city, UTA, and Salt Lake County which connects the 10200 South and Dimple Dell and Sandy Rail Trails. This is a multi-use path that enables the first and last mile connection between the surrounding community and the Sandy Civic Center Station on the TRAX blue line. This path is designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrian use. This project moves the city closer to having a trail system that will connect citizens from the Bonneville Shoreline trail to the Jordan River trail. There is a lot of uncertainty about the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic but there are good indicators that show the worst is behind us. Utah’s unemployment rate continues to decrease. In fact, Utah has the best unemployment numbers in the country with a rate of 5.1%. Another bright spot on the economic front is sales tax revenue is up

5.9% statewide from last year. There are strong indicators that Utah’s construction industry is still going strong. Construction was one of the few industries who saw an increase in hiring over the last few months. There are certainly still many economic challenges to overcome but there are reasons to be cautiously optimistic about a robust recovery.
