Rodeo Queens Named Young rodeo queen hopefuls gathered at the Oneida County Fairgrounds Saturday, June 11 as they competed in the county’s Rodeo Queen Contest. Contestants from ages three to eighteen participated in several events throughout the day, cheered on by their families and friends. The morning began with the youngest groups- the Mini Miss Cowgirls (ages 5 and under) and Jr. Miss Cowgirls (ages 6 to 7). Inside the arena they each performed a pattern particular to their age group as well as a simple interview with the judges. At the conclusion of the horsemanship patterns and interview, each of the contestants were awarded with a feed bucket of goodies, for themselves and their horses. Following the younger division award ceremony, the Princess (ages 8 to 11), Jr. Queen (ages 12-14) and Sr. Queen (ages 15-18) contestants began their own competitions. The contestants were individually judged on three basic areas of appearance, interview, and horsemanship. They all participated in modeling, interviewing, testing and a horsemanship pattern, with each division becoming progressively harder. The Jr. Queen

In Couer d’alene, Idaho on Saturday, 31 members of a group called the Patriot Front, connected to several states across the west and midwest, were arrested in a Uhaul. The group reportedly had intended to stage a “flash demonstration” in military style gear for use in internet videos, and hoping to create a confrontation with authorities and attendees of a Pride event at a local city park. The group was arrested without incident, and will be charged with “conspiracy to riot,” which is a misdemeanor.

Roads into Yellowstone closed due to flooding

Unprecedented flooding, the result of rapid snow melting, have created unsafe road conditions into Yellowstone National Park. All inbound and outbound roads to the park are closed currently, including to the small community of Gardiner, Montana, which is inaccessible. Park officials reported that the time until roads are reopened is currently unknown, though they indicated that the northern loop will likely be closed for a substantial amount of time while the damage is surveyed. A number of roads and bridges throughout the broader Yellowstone area have been completely washed out.

Campground closed due to vandalism

The popular East Fork of Rock Creek in Power County will be closed to camping and UTVs for the indefinite future as a result of an “excess amount of human waste and trash.” UTVs are also blamed for destroying trails and wild areas in the recreation area. The land is supported by an endowment, but money to repair it comes from state funds that are generally reserved for education.
