Grandparents Day, at Malad Elementary School

The annual Grandparents Day at Malad Elementary school is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and it lived up to its hype once again. The day allowed parents and grandparents to have a look at the projects students have been up to this year, see some of the impressive student talent on display, and enjoy a cafeteria lunch together. Many schools across the country have recently started hosting a Grandparents Day, though in Malad it

has been a welcome tradition for many years. Classroom Projects Each grade at MES had its own particular set of projects to present for Grandparents Day, including journal writing, studying landforms, building models of the solar system, creating displays about Idaho “artifacts”, and acting as historical characters in a virtual museum. The “Living History” or “Wax museum” project involved students researching

famous (and sometimes less famous) historical figures, and explaining them to the audience when approached. Students created costumes to physically resemble the figures, and many created “buttons” to initiate the presentation. Subjects for the museum included Amelia Earhart, Stan Lee, Nikola Tesla, Paul Revere, and many others. Talent Show One of the perennial highlights of the day is the talent show, featuring some of Malad’s

bravest and most accomplished students. As always, this year’s show featured a combination of conventional displays of musical and dance acumen, as well as some surprises. Madelynn Gonzalez and McCall Clark both did an excellent job with vocal solos, which can be incredibly intimidating in front of a large audience. Megan Moss, Eva ColeGRANDPARENTS DAY On Page 2

COUNTY COMMISSON RACE

Bob Christophersen, Ken Eliason, and Andee Parry Announce Candidacies for County Commission Bob Christophersen—District 3 We all live busy and harried lives— we simply don’t always have all the time we’d like. Where we live and how we engage in our community also offers opportunities to learn and connect, and provide us with confidence. The pandemic has made life more difficult in a lot of ways. We are all spending a lot more time online and less time in places and businesses that give us opportunities to learn. In my opinion, curiosity is the gateway to empathy about the many problems that we face in each of our counties, and in our country as a whole. The lack of faith we sometimes have in each other is most concerning to me. If we are ever going to trust each other again, we’ll need to start learning a lot more about each other, and have a lot more confidence in ourselves about doing what we think is right. I am committed to eight principles: clarity, stability, stewardship, family success, infrastructure, integrity, innovation, and health and well-being. We also need a well-ordered republic. I am a different kind of leader, and am committed to remaining connected to those I serve. Throughout my leadership career, I’ve witnessed the power of meaningful connection. It breaks down barriers, finds solutions, helps overcome hard times, and breathes life into organizations. I love this county. I love the people of county. We are lucky to live within a community that values the principles of freedom, kindness, and unity. I assure you of my resolve and devotion to the red, white, and blue and all it stands for. In God we trust.

Ken Eliason

Andee Parry

Ken Eliason—District 2 I was born and raised in Oneida County and have lived here my entire life except for two years when I served an LDS mission in the Canada, Halifax Mission, and two years attending Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho. Oneida County, is where I call home. My roots are planted deep in its soil. I am a third generation cattle rancher on the ranch my grandfather bought in 1938 in Holbrook which is where I live and have the opportunity of working along side my sons and my father. I married my beautiful wife, Kristy, 37 years ago, and we have been blessed with five sons, five beautiful daughters-in-law and 10 grandchildren. Currently, four of our sons and their families live in Oneida County, and within the next month our youngest son and his family will be moving back to Malad after graduating from

BYU-I, so my family and I have a big investment in the county. I want Oneida County to continue to be the place we can all raise our children and grandchildren and be happy and prosperous in this beautiful part of Idaho. Two years ago when I was asked to run for Oneida County Commissioner, I pondered and thought a lot about it and made the decision to run. After being a Commissioner this past year, I can honestly say it has been a great privilege and honor to serve the residents of this county, and it has been a rewarding experience. I have enjoyed meeting new people, and I have learned a lot about the many problems and issues that face our county. I try to let common sense, the Constitution, and what is best for the residents of Oneida County be my guide as I have made my decisions. During the past year as I have served

as Commissioner, I have learned that knowledge of the issues, experience, and listening to the residents of this county are important, and I will continue to learn and listen to the concerns and suggestions that you as friends, neighbors, and county citizens have. I am fortunate to be able to work with two other commissioners who are dedicated and work very hard for the citizens, and we are always trying to make the right decisions to save taxes and keep the county finances solvent. My wife and I enjoy traveling and have been able to visit many parts of the world, but we are always glad and thankful to get back home to our friends and family in Oneida County. Andee Parry - District 2 As an observer of county government for many years, I am anxious COUNTY COMMISSION RACE On Page 2
