NOVEMBER 2023
MAYOR’S MESSAGE Month of Gratitude November has always been the month of GRATITUDE for our City. We shepherd in the holiday season with the annual Interfaith Service (view the adjacent ad for details) with a message centered around GRATITUDE. This can be a difficult concept to tackle in light of all we see occurring around the world. But I believe my friends and colleagues on the Interfaith Council would argue that it is the perfect time to pause and take inventory of the many blessings we share as citizens of this great country. It’s important to acknowledge that there is reason to be grateful for our own mental health and well-being, even when the messages we are bombarded with seem bleak. In keeping with this overarching message, allow me to express my gratitude for the opportunity Joni and I have had to serve the citizens of Holladay for going on 10 years. It has blessed our life beyond measure. I’m grateful to live in a country that allows everyday citizens like me to serve as your Mayor. It’s a rare privilege; an honor not available to citizens across the globe. We have never taken it for granted! I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside an amazing staff, competent, compassionate, and fully committed colleagues on our City Council, and too many to mention relationships with local volunteers and elected officials serving on the front lines to make our communities a better place to live. I wish you could all see what I see on a daily basis. It’s in complete contrast to what you might expect from the information we receive through daily news feeds. Countless individuals finding ways to be of service, working selflessly under the radar to strengthen our communities. Their motivations are pure. As long as “these” individuals continue to be willing to step into the arena, I have high hopes for the future of this great nation, our State, and the City of Holladay. As Thanksgiving approaches, I hope you can find some time to pause and reflect on all that blesses your life. By acknowledging, showing, and sharing your gratitude, we strengthen relationships with our family, friends, and community. Councilmember Matt Durham will compose our December Journal article. So, I’ll take this opportunity to wish everyone a holiday season filled with love and laughter, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2024—CHEERS!!! —Rob Dahle, Mayor
Elections Cancelled for Districts 2 & 5 The only candidate who declared their candidacy for Holladay City Council District 2 was Matt Durham. Similarly, Emily Gray was the sole candidate for Council District 5 after her opponent withdrew. As these races were uncontested, the City Council decided to cancel the elections in accordance with Utah law and Holladay Resolution 202327, thus saving approximately $15,000 or 66%, from the budgeted amount for elections this year. The City Council District 4 race with Drew Quinn and Matthew Tracy will be on the ballot for the General Election on November 21st. Additionally, some residents will receive a ballot for the Mt. Olympus Improvement District Board of Trustees at-large member. All eligible, active, registered voters will be mailed a ballot on October 31st and are encouraged to vote and return that ballot in a timely manner so that it may be counted. Election Day Vote centers are also available for voters who prefer to vote in person. Early voting will take place on November 13-17 from 3:30-7:00 pm. You can also drop your ballot off in the ballot box located at the northwest corner of City Hall. Please visit ww.slco.org/clerks/elections for more information on early vote centers and election day locations.
