ENDURANCE, ASPIRATIONS AND HOPE Thanks to all for getting your vaccinations! We are doing a great task in a united way by getting every adult inoculated. The incidence of COVID-19 has taken a dramatic decline since mask-wearing and vaccinations began late last year. I know there is a small period of suffering after the shot(s) but life quickly returns to pain-free. We owe a big debt of gratitude to the grassroots effort of so many volunteers in the medical professions who have given many, many hours throughout late winter and this springtime to help in this superior organized effort by our medical and governmental organizations to protect and improve the health of every one of us. Through all this last year many have had the “rug pulled out from under their feet.” There isn’t a person who hasn’t had their lifestyle altered. It has required much patience on all our parts to alter our day-to-day habits from the minute we awaken in the morning until we fall into bed at night. Young and old alike have and will continue to have to take time to do certain tasks according to the latest direction from our County Health Department. Fortunately, and because of our willingness to mask-up and receive the vaccine, restrictions are finally loosening and becoming more liberal. We have hoped and prayed for this process to begin, haven’t we? Before too many more weeks/months, we will be able to conduct our lives as much as we like in the manner we did preCOVID. But Not Yet! Keep doing the right thing to the end! There have been State Final basketball games won because of a two-point shot launched with less than a second to go in the game; there have
been football games lost this last year because the ball didn’t pass the final half-dozen inches into the endzone in the final play of the game. Good defensive baseball means playing strong through the last out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Never give up. Together we will have conquered a vicious micro-enemy if we keep proper procedures until this micro-enemy has no more place to hibernate. I invite you to help the Homeless Shelters in Utah this year. One way you can help is to simply check the box on your 2020 State Tax Form to donate to the Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund. These funds go 100% to aid the homeless who have yet to get back onto their feet financially. We have a valuable assist to homeless families here in Midvale. The Road Home Shelter assists homeless parents who have children. No donation will be turned away, whether in kind or financial. All are accepted at the Midvale Homeless Family Shelter. Thanks, in advance! This month begins the final processes of determining budgets for all departments of the City. It will be discussed and debated by the City Council, finishing in late June. Coincidentally, Unified Police Department is finalizing its budget and will be presenting the new costs to the County, cities and townships they serve. Unified Fire Authority is doing the same. UFA will collect their income largely from property taxes later in November. The City of Midvale and these two safety agencies have done a great job preserving economies in their operations to be able to provide all services as economically as possible. Something positive to look forward to: We will soon be opening our City meetings to the public once again. Look for details soon.
Mind Your “P’s & Q’s”: Park Manners
Salt Lake County Animal Services
Before you head out on an adventure to the park with your dog be sure to grab a few things: a leash, water, and waste disposal bags. The weather is warming up and you’re itching to take your dog for a walk or to the park. Remember when you’re out to keep your dogs leashed up. Any dog free roaming the neighborhood or the park, not on leash, is a “public nuisance animal”, animal at large, and is in violation of your city’s local ordinance. If your dog is off your property, it needs to be on leash. It’s the law. A good rule of thumb, if you’re hot and thirsty, your dog is as well. Be sure to take water on long walks to the park or around the neighborhood. You never know when the water fountains may be out of service or perhaps there isn’t any running water available for your dog to drink. Remember to grab a few dog waste bags before heading out on your adventure in the neighborhood or to the park. Isn’t it the worst when you’re in the middle of a walk and you pull out the last dog waste bag from a roll? Look around the park to see if there are any posted dog waste stands with more bags. It is against the law to not pick up after your dog. Have a safe and happy summer with your 4-legged family! If you have questions, please contact Salt Lake County Animal Services at 385-GOT-PETS or AdoptUtahPets.org.
