MARCH 2021

MAYOR’S MESSAGE This month marks the 1-year anniversary of Covid-19 rearing its ugly head in our community. The impact to our public and private lives is still hard to imagine, even after living through it. We’re all chomping at the bit to get our schools and businesses open, share a dinner with family and friends, attend a concert or play and simply gather in public spaces free of the anxiety we have endured for months. For the first time we are discussing various scenarios that contemplate a return to “normal”. The curve is trending in our favor. Thousands of vaccines are being delivered each and every day; the latest press release anticipating full delivery by the end of July. As the daily positivity rates continue to subside and vaccinations increase we can catch a glimmer of light at the end of this dark tunnel. The City is now evaluating the scenarios that will allow us to transition back to normal operations.

This includes reviewing how to safely and responsibly bring our employees back to a full on-site staffing model, summer activities, when to open meeting spaces, the 4th of July celebration, the free Summer Concert Series… We are a ways away from making any final decisions, but it’s nice to focus on these issues with a renewed sense of optimism. 2020 started with Covid, followed by an earthquake, riots, a windstorm and an election that tore at the fabric of our community--- It’s been a year!! I know we all crave a return to normal. Though we’re gaining the upper hand, the virus is still out there. Until it’s under control we must continue to be diligent. Wear your mask when social distancing cannot be maintained, wash your hands and continue to avoid large crowds. We have come too far, endured so much; let’s finish strong! Be Safe and Be Kind, Rob Dahle, Mayor

3900 S Construction Update 3900 South reconstruction between Wasatch Boulevard and 2300 East began on Monday, Feb. 15, and will continue through late 2021. Crews will start on the east end of the project limits at Wasatch Boulevard and work west toward 2300 East. WHAT TO EXPECT: • Daytime work activities (sunrise to sunset) • Reduced speed limit • Lane closures and width restrictions • Increased noise, dust and vibration

• Sidewalk closures • Street parking limitations • Traffic delays • Periodic driveway access restrictions

Residents and drivers are encouraged to plan for delays on 3900 South and use an alternate route when possible to avoid construction activities. To learn more about the 3900 South Improvements project or to sign up for email updates, please email 3900southproject@gmail.com or call (801) 509-6639. You can visit the city website more project information. Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Highland Dr Intersection Project to Start in March The City of Holladay has spent several years planning, designing, funding, and acquiring private property to widen four intersections on Highland Drive to accommodate dedicated left turn lanes at Spring Lane, Lakewood Dr., Walker Lane and Fardown Ave. These new turn-lanes will improve traffic flow and enhance safety along the Highland Drive corridor. The project not only includes the addition of new left-hand turns lanes but will also relocate an existing crosswalk from the middle of the block on Highland Drive just south of Fardown Ave. to the Fardown Ave. intersection. The relocated crosswalk will feature a new overhead pedestrian signal to help people

cross the street more safely. As part of the project, a row of large trees will be removed from the east side of Highland Dr. just north of Fardown Ave. Like many Cottonwood trees of this age, these trees are not in good health. A new row of maple trees will be planted to offset the removed trees. We are excited to announce that construction of the Highland Drive Intersections Project will begin mid-March 2021 and be completed by mid to late summer. Please exercise caution and patience in the work zones. For more information, please contact the project hotline at (844) 452-6200 or email holladayintersections@gmail.com.
