housands of pieces of candy were handed out on Halloween before the traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating began in Morgan. Morgan’s businesses have passed out candy to the young and old for over 15 years as patrons walk from State Street to Commercial Street to Trojan Blvd. collecting the sweet confections. Hot dogs, donuts, and tacos also make an appearance for various businesses. Morgan’s Business Trick or Treat has become a favorite Halloween tradition of many in the Morgan Valley. Alleged Maine mass shooter Robert Card was found dead in a cargo trailer on the property of a recycling facility where he used to work. The discovery provided some sense of relief to the town of Lewiston, Maine, where the shooting occurred but it also raised a number of questions for the ongoing investigation. Last Wednesday, Card opened fire at a bowling alley and then a bar and grille in the town, leaving 18 people dead and at least 13 others injured. As the investigation has unfolded, police have learned that the Army reservist had a long history of mental health concerns, including several warnings that he may be considering some sort of mass casualty event. As recently as this summer, Card was treated for mental health issues and released. The guns used in the incident were all apparently purchased legally. The investigation into the shooter’s motives is an ongoing multi-agency effort.

After continuing to poll in the middle single digits, former Vice President Mike Pence officially suspended his pursuit of the presidency. Suspending the campaign means that Pence will keep his campaign organization on standby to potentially be restarted at a later time if it is deemed viable. Former president Donald Trump is leading in the primary polls by large margins over Florida governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. DeSantis, who is closest, is polling at around 13% to Trump’s roughly 57%. While it seems unlikely that the landscape will change very much before next spring’s primaries, Trump is currently involved in multiple court trials that his opponents are hoping may weaken his numbers. Pence has not announced any additional plans moving forward yet.
Matthew Perry dead at 54
Beloved actor and star of popular show “Friends” was found dead over the weekend in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. Initial investigations of the scene have not found any evidence of foul play or drug use, but a full investigation and toxicology screening will be a part of the investigation into the unattended death. Perry had a long and well-documented struggle with drugs and alcohol over the years, though he was reportedly clean and in good health in the time leading up to his death. “Friends” is a show that has been loved and viewed by millions, and is one of the most frequently rebroadcast and streamed shows in media history. Friends and relatives have been outpouring their fond memories in the days following the discovery.
