“That moment was the catalyst that turned the entire year around, but at the time it could have gone either way,” Dack said. “Dean had had a lot of moments leading up to Wanneroo, and we had heard about and had seen those kind of traits, where he could be leading by a country mile but could almost go cartwheeling down a track for no explained reason. But until that crash happened at Wanneroo we couldn’t really deal with addressing those traits. “Once we saw him later that night and we knew that he was ok, we were obviously all upset and disappointed for him, but we said let’s keep our head up, mathematically we can still win this thing. “I never gave up on the idea that we could win and neither did he. We knew it was going to be difficult, and we also knew we’d used up our life line so it was going to be a lot of hard work. “The thing is with Dean, is that you could put a brick wall up in front of him and he’d try and get through it to win, it was 117
