REHAB & PHYSICAL THERAPY CLINIC
HEALTHCARE
Sikeston, MO
Project Size $7.8 Million
In 2020 Missouri Delta tasked us to create a design for their new outpatient rehab and physical therapy clinic in Sikeston, MO. With them expecting to build several new projects within the foreseeable future, we helped them create a brand standard that they can carry from building to building. Besides the general color palette becoming brand standard, another element that is beginning to appear across Missouri Delta’s new buildings is the dramatic overhang on the exterior. This overhang influenced the design language of the reception desks on the interior of the building.
My role on this project included creating and presenting finish palettes, creating the design for the reception desks, furniture specification and bid assistance. The design development and construction document phase took place during the pandemic, so I became very comfortable presenting virtually and preparing design decks for the client to sign off on for both our firm and the client to reference during construction to ensure that everyone was on the same page.

EXTERIOR
VIEW

The design concept for the reception desks was to reflect the exterior design on the interior. The desk surface itself waterfalls to the floor mimicking the large wing overhang on the exterior of the building. Even the wood look material on the face of the desk is the same phenolic that was used outside.

This corporate office was the first project that I worked on at CD Companies after leaving my first industry job at a furniture dealership. I was responsible for FF&E specification, fabric selections, and budget. With a client request to fit more than 500 people in the open offices, every inch of floor space had to be used efficiently. After working with the client to configure a space that would be able to fit all of the employees that they would need, their budget shrank from $1.5 million to $1 million with no change in scope. For this reason, they decided to bring over existing workstations for (2) of the (4) quadrants in this office space. Due to the pandemic, site visits were limited requiring me to use photos and furniture plans to reconfigure existing runs of workstations to fit in their new space while minimizing the number of additional connectors that may need to be purchased to install the existing workstations in their new office. With the number of workstations in each quadrant, panel heights were kept lower to prevent blocking natural light and help the space feel larger and more open.

THE IVY
MULTI-FAMILY
Westminster, CO
Project size : 16,000 sqft
AMENITY SPACES
The Ivy is a luxury apartment complex by Lux Living being built in Westminster, Colorado. Our scope for this project included the main lobby space, a secondary lobby, the mail room, a gym, sky lounge, bistro, leasing office and the corridors. The client requested that the design concept be based on James Cameron Movie, Avatar and its jungle planet Pandora. For the more public spaces such as the lobbies, this theme is more subtle, really just utilizing textures and pops of colors. More literal elements were used in the spaces primarily used by residents such as floors that illuminate when walked upon, and imagery that nods to the creatures that live on Pandora. One goal was to create as many feature walls and seating areas that could fit in the space. Bold wallcoverings, three-dimensional tiles, and colorful quartzite were used to carry the theme of Pandora throughout.

LOUNGE FLOOR PLAN

The Sky Lounge is a gathering place for the residents of The Ivy. This space features a “starry sky” ceiling and an illuminated floor on the attached balcony that reacts when stepped upon. Where the lobbies are meant to be bright, green, and welcoming, the Sky Lounge is meant to have a more intimate feeling. The color palette for this room is based on the blues and oranges of different living creatures on Pandora.

RIVER OAK
EDUCATION - K12
Jefferson City, MO
Project size : 52,500 sqft
River Oak Christian Academy is a non-denominational Christian school in Jefferson City, MO. They are an independent non-profit organization originally only offering pre-K - 5th grade classes, but expanded to add a 6th grade in the fall of 2021 with the goal to add 7th and 8th grade classes in the near future. This goal meant that the school would need a new space to fit the added students. The project started as a new build, but their tight budget and lists of wants did not allow for an all-new build. They purchased an existing medical office building with the plan to add a pre-engineered metal building in the back for a gym. To ensure that the project was kept in budget, many of the design elements used were created with paint and inexpensive materials.

Each classroom followed the same standard as shown above with an accent “cove” on one side of the room. This cove consisted of a 2’ stripe of accent flooring and matching paint and ceiling tile. The existing column grid is dense, therefore many classrooms have structural columns that are painted the corresponding accent paint. TYPICAL CLASSROOM

PARKS & RECREATION TOUCH OF NATURE
CARBONDALE, IL
Project size : 200 SQFT
Our sophomore class received a grant to design and build trail heads in the Shawnee National Forest near Carbondale IL. The class broke off into small teams for the design development portion of the project, then each group presented their design to the client for them to select the style that we would move forward with. Each group then got assigned one area on the trail for their trail head. However, the group that I was in was assigned two locations on the trail. One was to be a rest area to view a fallen tree that had become home to a variety of different wildlife, and the other was to be a viewing deck for bird watching. We then worked through how much material was needed, came up with a budget for it all, and transferred it to the site. The overall build was spread out over six weeks, and the park management plans to make signs for the posts within the year.
