Safe & Welcoming Environment

Grant Watts Elementary is a unique school with a strong sense of community! GWE has focus on school improvement by addressing the health of the school at its core. We will continue this path by reaching out to the community for input and using this information to guide daily instruction, along with assessment data, and classroom visits with timely feedback for teachers. We will expand our efforts by ensuring that all members of our community feel welcomed and included by introducing inclusive practices, along with Culturally Relevant Teaching.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Kids Are Our Focus! We are committed to the growth of the whole child. As such, GWE is an inclusive community of learners. Students are guided in the “Gray Wolf Way” through school-wide PBIS systems with an emphasis on Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind behavior. We will further expand our PBIS systems to continue to be intentional in our efforts and actions to ensure all students feel safe, welcome, and included in our community, along with implementing school-wide attendance systems.

We are dedicated to maintaining an inclusive environment where students are not only welcomed and supported but also feel socially, emotionally, and physically safe. Systems and supports include: · Positive Behavior Support System

All students at Grant Watts participate in Physical Education, Music, and Lunch Buddy-Up. Plans are in place to introduce mindfulness exercises along with schoolwide activities to promote equity. In addition, GWE provides after-school care with community sports. During Comprehensive Distance Learning, afterschool activities were temporarily suspended. Furthermore, character assemblies are conducted once a month to recognize students that exemplify the PBIS character traits. During distance learning, these assemblies were done virtually with in-person deliveries of rewards.

Grant Watts conducted all parent involvement activities virtually during CDL. · Kinder Connect

This year our community members came together to help provide and distribute technology to our students and families in need. Our community stakeholders collaborated with GWPO and administration to assist in distributing food and necessary supplies to families in need.

· School-wide behavior and character lessons · Character recognition program and positive office referrals · Bullying and Harassment policy and prevention · Counseling services-Stop, Walk, Talk, and Kelso's Wheel GWE has plans and protocols in place for weather events, fires accidents, intruders, and other threats to safety. These protocols are practiced on a regular schedule throughout the school. We use the I Love You Guys standard response protocol.

As our school transitioned to Hybrid Learning, staff greeted students everyday upon arrival to help familiarize students with health and safety procedures and welcome them into the school building. Through our PBIS program and with specifically designed classes provided by our school counselor, and direct instruction from teachers in character education and social emotional competencies as well as daily participation in daily community circles; our students learn to foster relationships, develop a sense of community connection, how to resolve conflict, solve problems and seek support of trusted adults when needed. To ensure safe and secure learning environments for our students, our school updated our PBIS systems and expectations during Comprehensive Distance Learning.

At Warren, we offered various virtual enrichment classes to foster meaningful connections and support student engagement.

Each week at Warren Elementary, all students had access to Physical Education and Mindfulness Classes, Music Classes, Art Lessons, Read Alouds, and Social Lunch Bunch. These classes were offered in a live virtual setting where students could not only connect with specialists but build connections and relationships with a variety of peers based on common interests.

To meet safety requirements of RSSL many of our extracurricular activities were postponed or done in a virtual setting.

· Back to School night, a time for families to come learn about the staff and upcoming programs

This year our community members came together to help provide and distribute technology to our students and families in need. Our community stakeholders collaborated with our food service department to provide/deliver free meals to our students and supported food and clothing drives to support displaced families at the local fairgrounds.

· Parent Connect Evening, an open forum to learn about the new shifts with Comprehensive Distance Learning and transitioning back to a Hybrid setting · Kinder Connect Evening, an opportunity for new Kindergarteners to learn about the ins and outs of school and engagement activities · Kinder Camp, a summer program for incoming Kindergarteners to learn what school is all about We met with families one-on-one at socially distanced home visits to encourage student participation and attendance as well as increase awareness of available resources.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

As a PBIS school, we provide guidance and character trait lessons, and instruction in social emotional competencies. Students learn to foster relationships, develop community connection, practice how to resolve conflict, and seek support of trusted adults. Our school updated our PBIS expectations to develop new standards of conduct for interactions in a virtual setting.

We use the Sanford Harmony Curriculum to support mental health needs and social emotional competency growth. We utilize the Standard Response Protocol by the ‘i Love U Guys’ Foundation to prepare staff and students on emergency response in any situation.

We offered various virtual enrichment classes to foster meaningful connections and support student engagement. Students had access to Physical Education classes, guidance lessons, music classes, lunch groups and morning meetings. Activities and classes were offered in a live and virtual setting where students connected with specialists and built connections with peers based on common interests. Our support team conducted Fly-Up days to strengthen the transitions between schools for our incoming 4th Grade students and outgoing 6th Grade students. Many of our students participated in district athletic programs and opportunities after the regular school day.

We met with families one-on-one at socially distanced home visits to encourage student participation and attendance as well increase awareness of available resources.

Back to School Night was a time to reconnect and learn about the school staff and upcoming programs. K-6 Parent Connect was an open forum to learn about the new shifts with Comprehensive Distance Learning. 4th-6th Grade Reopening Presentation reviewed and discussed the plans for transitioning to an in-person Hybrid learning model. Virtual Family/Teacher conferences were provided, and the Otto Petersen Parent Organization events and meetings provided involvement opportunities.

This year, our community members came together to help provide and distribute technology to our students and families in need. Our community stakeholders collaborated with our food service department to provide/deliver free meals to our students and supported food and clothing drives to support displaced families at the local fairgrounds.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

At Scappoose Middle School, we are committed to providing education that inspires students to embrace the challenges of the future. In this unique year, we accomplished this by providing every student and staff member with the technology needed to successfully navigate distance learning. We strived to build and maintain positive relationships with our students in a primarily virtual environment while also helping students master content standards.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Our school works to ensure all students and their parents feel welcome. The expectation is clearly set that every student will be treated with dignity and respect. When this expectation is not met, it is immediately addressed and corrected. We do so through schoolwide, classroom, and community efforts along with on-the-spot interventions. We strive to create a caring school culture with adults modeling positive behaviors for their students.

In addition to a virtual school-wide antibullying presentation, we had a school-wide kindness week with various activities for our staff and students. Online bullying and harassment presentations taught our students about the dangers of online activity and how to avoid them. The SMS campus underwent some physical improvements as well with the installation of additional fencing to allow for the perimeter of the campus to be locked down which will enhance the safety of students when they return to full-time in-person learning.
