If you are not familiar with Bocce, do not fret! It is a simple game that can be picked up in minutes. It is meant to be enjoyed as much for its spirit of competition as its ability to bring people together for a fun time. Teams are comprised of four players. Two players from each team will be stationed at each end of the court and will roll two balls each. This is called a frame. At the end of the frame, the game resumes at the opposite end of the court.
Bocce balls are to be rolled underhanded from behind the end of the court lines and must not be thrown above shoulder height. A judge may call a foul on any player that steps over the line or throws the ball above shoulder level.
During pool play games are played to 7 points or 15 minutes, whichever comes first. During the bracket play, games will be played to 8 points or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. In the final match, games will be played to 8 points with no time limit. Teams begin by playing one (1) game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Winner of Rock Paper Scissors game (“Team A”) will roll the little white ball aka Jack or Pallino (LWB). Team A must throw the LWB past the halfway mark, anywhere within the court boundaries. That same person then throws one of their colored bocce balls, trying to get as close to the LWB as possible. This establishes the “inside” ball.
A judge will oversee and provide instruction (if needed) for each match. Players may request a measurement at any time. Based on the results, the winning team of each match will be placed on brackets for additional games vying for the championship and opportunity to ultimately win and direct the registration proceeds to the charity of their choice.
Both teams throw from one direction of the court each frame. Players on each team alternate throws in a set order that remains the same for each match.
While the object is to get close to the LWB, it is permissible for a player to roll his/ her ball so as to knock an opponent's ball away from the LWB. Likewise, a player may knock or move the LWB toward his/her own team's balls. The LWB is playable anywhere on the playing surface.
Bocce Rules
If Team A throws the first bocce ball out of bounds, Team A throws again until they get a ball in play. That ball is now the closest, or the "inside" ball. The bocce ball that goes out of bounds will be removed from play and there will be no re-throw of that specific ball. Also, bocce balls that do not cross the mid line will be removed from the court. If Team B uses all four balls and fails to get closer to the LWB than Team A’s starting “inside” ball, Team A will roll each of their remaining balls, trying to place them closer than Team B’s closest ball. Any ball Team A throws that is closer to the LWB than Team B’s closest ball results in an additional point for Team A. A bocce ball that touches any part of the line is considered in play. Bocce balls that land outside the court are out of play and no longer count. If the LWB is knocked out of bounds by Team A, then Team B--along with the judge--replaces the LWB in the positionapproximateitwasin before it was knocked out of bounds. All other bocce balls knocked out will be removed from play. Play continues until all teams have used all their Bocce balls. This ends the frame and only one team will score. Score one point for each ball closer to the LWB than the closest ball of the opposition.

Q : What if the LWB doesn’t make it past the half court line?
Q: How many games do I get to play?
A: The team will then turn over the throw to the opposing team to throw the LWB past half court and inside the boundaries.
Q: What if my foot goes over the foul line?
Q: What if the “inside ball” is tied with my opponents?
FAQ
Q: What if my bocce ball bows the boundary line?
A: After all of the teams have played in pool play, if there is a tie (as in 2 teams have each won 2 games) the tiebreaker will go as follows: 1. Head to Head 2. Point Differential (Points scored subtract points against) 3. Points Scored 4. 1 Game - Rock Paper Scissors
Q: What if I’ve never played before? A : We will be providing a demonstration from 10:30-11am.
Q: What if I throw the ball above shoulder height. A: The player will be issued a warning for their first foul. The game will continue and their resulting throw will be counted. However, if there is a second foul at any point during the match with that given player, the ball will be removed from play and the throw forfeited.
Q: What if the subsequent balls result in a tie?
A: In this format, you are guaranteed to have 4 games. The winner of each pool will then proceed on to the bracket round which is single elimination.
A: The player will be issued a warning for their first foul. The game will continue and their resulting throw will be counted. However, if there is a second foul at any point during the match with that given player, the ball will be removed from play and the throw forfeited.
A: Should the judge determine a tie, the inside balls will be removed from play, a game of Rock Paper Scissors will be played and the winner (Team A) will use that bocce ball to re-establish the inside ball. Team B will then throw their ball to try and get inside of Team A’s inside ball.
A: Unless the boundary line breaks, play will continue.
A : If the subsequent balls result in a tie as determined by the judge, then neither ball will count.
Q: How do we break ties at the end of pool play?
