The Park

Located in Mesa,Arizona, Palo Verde Park was originally a detention basin completed in the 1980s designed to direct stormwater overflow into the rectangular-shaped bowl.To combat rising temperatures and lack of water in the desert, the redesigned park directs any water captured into path infrastructure, cleans, and stores for future use. In addition to the existing playground and basketball court, the basin incorporates a sandy court area with interchangeable fields along with an amphitheater wall as a backdrop for events and gatherings.

The Hub

Standing at 504 feet tall, the hub tower provides gathering spaces for local business and lodging for travelers in the growing metropolitan valley. The hub is defined as the central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate. In other words, the effective center of an activity, region, or network.

The Net-Zero high-rise shades the interior rooms with 45-degree vertical, concrete walls to block the intense, Phoenix sun. With its height, the ground level pedestrian area remains shaded during the day for outdoor activity along with the pool deck looking over the Civic Space Park to the North.
