We know it's easy to feel stuck or overwhelmed, but whatever you're going through, you don't need to do it alone.

Our therapists at The Counseling Center are committed to helping you or your child, providing support and strategies to tackle whatever struggles you may be facing.

Spark Youth Development Initiative

Spark Youth Development Initiative offers after school programs that provide educational/study time and a variety of activities, a summer learning program, and other programs and support for parents. Our licensed social workers also provide additional mental health services on site.

Theater

Stage Door, our resident theater company, provides a theatrical outlet for children of all ages through stunning performances. They also offer theater classes through out Ly Arts Program.

Adult Programming

Our active adults program offers a variety of card groups, exercise classes and interest groups, in addition to our day trips and special in-house events. Come by yourself or bring a friend!

Facility Rental

We have plenty of programs for kids: sports camps and leagues, day camps, afterschool programming, theatrical opportunities, and more!

With rooms that can seat from 10 to 300 people, a convenient and easily accessible location with plenty of off-street parking, and an atmosphere that can suit either a casual or formal event, The Community House is the perfect venue for your next event.

From sports to volunteerism, there’s something for everyone. And don’t forget—our popular full-day camp fills up fast, so sign up now before it’s too late!

For generations, our building at Eighth and Madison has been a place where families gather, friendships form, and community thrives. But our impact goes far beyond these walls. Every day, thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we’re able to support children and families through vital programs and services. This summer, we’re proud to continue expanding our reach through the Spark Youth Development Initiative at our Willowbrook location, providing mentorship, education, and wellness resources for young people and families in need. Our Walk the Walk for Mental Health on May 18th is a celebration of hope and raises funds for our income based sliding scale counseling center-take a look at the back cover for details and register today!

Ages: 5 years old and up Instructor Gabrielle Tufano leads a 90-minute art project for up to 15 kids customized to your party. All in our art studio on Saturday afternoons contingent on availability of space. Room available for two hours (plus setup and breakdown time). Must have at least two weeks notice to reserve. Add our pizza package to your party!

Summer Day Camp

Summer Day Camp Monday-Friday, June 2-August 8* 9:00am-3:00pm | The Community House Ages: 5-13 years (K-8th Grade) Get ready for an exciting summer! The Community House Summer Day Camp is the perfect opportunity for your child to create memories and safely enjoy time with their peers. Summer Day camp offers a variety of creative learning experiences including sports, drama, and environmental awareness to name a few! Summer Day Camp is broken up into weekly themes; the field trip, activities and projects for that week relate to the theme. We cannot wait to see you this summer!

Lunch Buddies

Lunch buddies is a program designed for participants to have a safe, supervised place to eat their lunch while waiting for their next camp to start. It will be supervised by one of the Summer Camp counselors. Our staff will pick your child up from their camp at 12:00pm and drop your child off at 1:00pm to their next camp. Please send a peanut-free lunch with your child.

This is only offered to participants who attend the Summer Programs at The Community House.

GUPPIES Kiddie Camp

Monday-Friday, June 2-August 8* 9:00am-12:00pm | The Community House Age: 3-4 years (Preschool) Does your child need something fun and educational to do over the summer? If so, then the “Guppies” Kiddie Camp is a great place for your child! Kiddie Camp will offer your child an exciting first camp experience. Each week, campers will experience fun creative activities including: sports, drama, music, crafts, natures, and games all centered around a weekly theme. Children must be the appropriate age by the first day of the session they are registered to attend. All children who attend the “Guppies” Kiddie Camp must be potty trained! All participants must bring their lunch or a snack with them every day.

Kids Open Art Studio

Ages: 6-13 years old Looking for a daily screen time alternative this Summer?

Come make something with us. Work with a different set of materials each day of the Open Studio. Follow along with the project of the day. Or use the day’s materials to make your own. Students encouraged to bring oversized t-shirts to cover their clothes. We do have aprons and coverings available. But we inevitably make a mess and recommend kids wear something that can stand to get a little dirty.

Ages: 7-13 years old Love to play with textures and explore new art media, Fiber Arts Camp is for you! Take a deep dive into the fun and creative world of Fiber Art — tie-dying, weaving, sewing, yarn painting, wet felting and much more! SUMMER CAMPS Watercolor Camp: Global Expedition

Ages: 7-14 years old Ready to explore, experiment and go on an expedition? Love to travel and paint as well? Learn epic watercolor techniques and complete a global passport in this summer’s Global Watercolor Expedition.

Students will learn diverse watercolor techniques and complete projects inspired by regions around the world such as a Hawaiian sunset, rainforest bridge, Japanese garden, Rocky Mountain Landscape and much more. The week would not be a successful trip without a souvenir art passport, complete with stamps!

Drawing From Life Camp

Ages: 8-16 years old Sharpen up your pencils and start the Summer off right.

Gabrille Tufano (Ms. Gabby) gives you the foundational skills to take your work to the next level. Learn to “see” and draw like a pro in this super fun week-long intensive.

Take it for one week or both. Returning students will get newer, more challenging exercises and projects.

Come design and create your very own jewelry! Work with young fashion designers to learn how to create beautiful handmade necklaces, bracelets, and earrings out of polymer clay. There is fashion show for parents to attend at the end of the week for the students to showcase all of their hard work. EV Fine Arts Fashion Design + Sewing Camp

Ages: 6-14 years old Love fashion? Want to design and create your own clothing? Students will learn how to operate a sewing machine, sew garments from scratch, and see their designs come to life! A different garment will be made each day.

No sewing experience required. This is a great class for all experience levels as the projects can be adjusted based on skill level. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine. However, if they do not own one, a machine will be provided for them. The week ends with a fashion show on Friday where the students get to display all of their hard work! All materials are included. WE ARE HIRING FIELD STAFF VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED AT ALL GRADE LEVELS Starting in August, your football fan can get the total football experience without the contact. Flag football is a sport where the emphasis is safety, speed, agility, teamwork, and precision. It is the perfect forum for players who love playing football, are just starting out, or do not want to get into pads just yet. The Community House Flag Football League provides jerseys and flag sets to all players! The Recreation Supervisor will determine team selection. All efforts will be made to place players with schoolmates; however, it is not guaranteed. Team placement or coach requests are not guaranteed.

PRACTICES: Earliest practice begins August 25 with two practices per week before games begin, then one practice per week after. Practice days, times, and location are chosen by volunteer coaches.

GAMES: Games begin September 6 & 7. Games may go into early November with weather cancellations. 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th grade boys play on Saturday. 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade boys will play on Sunday.

1st-8th grade girls will play on Sunday. Kindergarten will play on Sunday.

Games start every hour on the hour. Rosters and schedules will be released by the end of the day August 22.

Ages: 7-12 years old This class will get kids excited about exercise and teach them about track and field, one of the oldest sports that continues to grow and is highlighted by the Olympics every 4 years. Participants will learn the fundamentals involved with improving flexibility, proper stretching, body positioning, developing core-strength, improving balance, cool-down techniques and other fitness concepts as they relate to exercising and the jumping, running and throwing skills involved in the sport of track and field. Our fun and fast-paced summer program is open to players of all skill-levels, and will meet once a week for skill sessions.

Mah Jongg Lessons

Ages: 18 years old and up Learn to play American Mah Jongg with friends! Mah Jongg is a game that has been sweeping the country. It is a stimulating game of both skill and luck. The American version of the game was brought from China in the 1920’s and uses tiles much like other games use cards. The goal of the game is to match your tiles with one of many combinations of tiles listed on a card. This four-week class is for the beginner or even someone who needs a refresher.

Class is taught by two retired high school educators who have taught this remarkable game for more than 10 years.

AARP Smart Driver Safety Course

Ages: 40 years old and up Join us at The Theatre of Western Springs as we see “The funniest farce ever written!” Noises Off! presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play! If you are a local of the area who has not seen a show at TWS now is your chance to catch a show at this gem of a theatre that has run continuously for over 90 years!!! Founded in 1929 by Western Springs resident Mary Cattell, The Little Theatre of Western Springs created an immediate reputation for quality theatre in suburban Chicago. Please meet us at the theatre by 1:50 pm.

The show starts at 2:30 pm and runs approx. 2.5 hours with a 15 min intermission. Theatre has a concession area selling snacks, water, soda, beer & wine! They even have a special split the pot raffle you are welcome to join!

Ages: 21 years old and up What did the brassiere say to the hat? “You go on a head while I give these two a lift.” Well known Chicago performer Ellie of Ellie Presents joins us at The Community House with her popular talk, “Speaking of Unmentionables: The Rise & Fall of Ladies’ Underwear” which is probably Ellie’s most requested performance. This novel and at times slightly naughty presentation unveils facts and exposes myths about women’s unmentionables. It includes stories from real women past and present and the amusing and sometimes uncomfortable relationship with their foundations. Ellie plays several women from the past as artistic portrayals and gives many talks on Domestic Arts topics of which Speaking of Unmentionables: The Rise & Fall of Ladies’ Underwear is a special audience favorite. Ellie has traveled all over the country with it. The talk takes the audience on a tour through the fashion timeline­—underneath the dresses. Tai Chi with Zuzanna

Ages: 18 years old and up Join us at The Community House and meet Zuzana from Hummingbird Qigong in this beginner to intermediate Tai Chi program to improve your balance, coordination and overall health. Per Harvard Medical School, Tai Chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice has value in treating or preventing many health problems. Tai Chi is a practice that involves a series of slow gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. It’s a low-impact, slow-motion exercise, that doesn’t put any pressure on the joints. It’s also slowly becoming therapeutic exercise for many chronic health conditions. Registration Information Most programs offer online registration at www.thecommunityhouse.org, click the “REGISTER” button on the top right. Registration can also be accepted at the registration desk (see page 3 for location and hours). An additional non-refundable credit card processing fee will be charged for both online and in-person registrations.

Refund Policy

Refunds must be requested more than 3 business days prior to the activity start date. We are unable to offer refunds for classes within 3 days of the start or for classes that have already started. All refunds will be charged a $10 processing fee per activity. Customers may have their refund processed as an in-house credit and use the credit for any program offered by The Community House. In house credits are charged a $5 processing fee, are non-refundable and are available for use for up to one year after issue date.

If The Community House cancels an individual class during a session, a make-up class will be scheduled. We are unable to offer refunds for Memberships purchased. Once approved, refunds are processed in the format of the original payment within 21 days. Any additional credit card processing fees incurred at time of registration, are non-refundable.

Events or programs that require a ticket purchase are not eligible for refunds. Summer Day Camp and Kiddie Camp participants must request a refund 48 business hours in advance of the start of the program taking place. These programs will not offer refunds for days that have already occurred. Transfers will not be granted for these programs but customers may request an in-house credit for use for the program of their choice. It may take up to 3 business days from the request for in-house credit for the credit to be available for use.

Transfer Policy

Participants in some classes may request to transfer from one class to another. Not all classes allow transfers. A $5 transfer fee must be paid before the transfer is processed.

Photo/Video Policy

The Community House staff regularly photographs or videotapes participants in programs and at events. These photos are the property of The Community House and may be used in publications, brochures, flyers, website, video productions or other marketing outlets. The Community House will protect the identity of those used in our promotional materials.

Jordan Crist Scholarship Fund

The Community House strives to make all programs available to all people. Through the generous donations and efforts of family and friends, the Jordan Crist Scholarship Fund was created to provide assistance to those in need.
