Location: Glenn Campus Gymnasium Coach: Head Coach Curtis Berry Contact: cberry@mountvernonschool.org Skills covered daily will include basic fundamentals of the game from team to individual performance, mental development, footwork improvement and offensive breakdown of skills including passing, shooting and dribbling. To enhance the learning process, games will be incorporated in the teaching process. With a small 8:1 ratio, campers will receive personalized attention. All instructions will be given by former professional and college players. MUSTANG GIRLS’ BASKETBALL CAMP July 18-22 9 am-3 pm Cost: $220 Rising grades 2-8 eligible Location: Glenn Campus Gymnasium Coach: Head Coach Sharon Burnette Contact: sburnette@mountvernonschool.org Instructional camp for young players interested in developing individual skills and game fundamentals. With a small 8:1 counselor to camper ratio, players receive individual instruction including ball handling and shooting skills, and work in game situations.

Designed for players wishing to play at the high school level, this camp stresses improving individual hitting, throwing and catching skills. Instruction provided by certified coaches with college experience, as well as student counselors. MUSTANG CO-ED SOCCER CAMPS June 6-10 9 am-3 pm Cost: $220 Rising grades 1-8 eligible Location: Glenn Campus Athletic Stadium Coach: Garry Sullivan Contact: gsullivan@mountvernonschool.org Featuring an all professional coaching staff, this soccer camp will train players how to make faster and better decisions in game situations and teach players the skills to execute those decisions. Technical exercises in all aspects of play will be put into game situations. Most importantly, the staff will coach players on how to work on their own to improve so that long after it is over, this camp will continue its impact on their game.


VOLLEYTOTS July 11-15 8 am-11 am Cost: $130 Rising grades K-3 eligible

Players will work on hand eye coordination and balance as well as speed and agility, in addition there will be game play each day.

MUSTANG FOOTBALL CLINIC July 18-22 4 pm-8 pm Cost: $220 Rising grades 1-8 eligible

Introduction to volleyball as well as hand-eye coordination and balance. This will be a high energy and fun interactive way to experience the game of volleyball.

OUTDOOR GRASS VOLLEYBALL CAMP June 6-8 9 am-12 pm Cost: $80 Rising grades 7-12 eligible

This camp is for players to learn the outdoor volleyball game, and will be played on grass. Players will learn the different skills and rules for the outdoor game. They will play in fours, triples, and doubles formats. Experience playing indoors is required, intermediate to advance skills necessary.

The Mustang Football Fundamental Camp is a “non-contact� evening camp that provides students with instruction and activities that inspire a love of the sport and the confidence to fully participate in organized or informal football activities. This camp is designed to challenge all, regardless of whether they have experience in organized football programs. The MVPS staff and players provide individual and small group instruction to participants. Young men attending the clinic will take part in non-contact drills; receive instruction in gross and fine motor skills involved in offensive, defensive, and special teams play. The camp fee includes camp T-shirt and the personalized instruction described above. Ten percent team discount for groups of 6 or more!

Intermediate and Advanced skills required. Will focus on all skills as well as strategy and different positions. Lots of reps and game play with great instruction. Players will be divided by age and ability.

All girls ages 5-12 are invited to attend. The camp is designed to introduce and/or improve cheerleading skills, dance routines, team cheering and spirit activities. Both novice and experienced cheerleaders will benefit from this camp.

EUCLIDIAN GEOMETRY (1.0 CREDIT)

STUDY STRATEGIES AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

June 6-July 22 Monday – Friday 8 am-12 pm Cost: $800 Rising grades 9 and 10 eligible

Euclidean Geometry provides a visual approach to conceptualizing. It uses informal and formal logical reasoning processes including deductive and inductive reasoning, synthetic, coordinate, and transformational approaches to study congruence, similarity, parallelism, symmetry, and perpendicularity. The integration of algebraic skills and concepts to solve geometric problems is stressed. (1.0 credit) Instructor: Ms. Danielle Heintz

UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT (0.5 CREDIT) June 6-June 24 Monday – Friday 8 am-12 pm. Cost: $400 Rising grades 10,11, and 12 eligible US Government is a course that is integral to understanding the American system of governance. The course will include instruction on the various forms of government, with particular attention to our system of government as defined by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. (.5 credit) Instructor: Mr. Mike Edmonson

ECONOMICS (0.5 CREDIT)

June 27-July 15 Monday – Friday 8 am-2:30 pm (includes ½ hour lunch) Cost: $400 Rising grades 10,11, and 12 eligible This course focuses on the American economic system and covers fundamental economic concepts, comparative economic systems, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economic interdependence. It stresses the ability to analyze critically and to make decisions concerning public issues. (.5 credit) Instructor: Mr. Mike Edmonson

June 20-22 9 am-11 am Cost: $165 Rising grades 7, 8, and 9 eligible Maximum of 16 students per session

During the workshop students will receive an introduction to several different study strategies. These strategies will assist students with organization, time-management, reading, vocabulary development, note-taking, research, and test preparation. The students will also be introduced to numerous forms of educational technology. These tools will include recommended educational websites, programs, and applications for their phones and computers. The students will also have an opportunity to apply what they have learned utilizing content from different subject areas. Instructors: Samantha Flowers and Amanda Stavropoulos

WRITE ON! WORKSHOP

July 25- 27 9 am-11 am Cost: $200 Rising grades 7, 8, and 9 eligible Maximum of 16 students per session This course was designed to help students improve their written expression skills. During the Write On! Course, students will be guided through the writing process utilizing two innovative educational software programs. First, they will be employing Draft: Builder for the planning, organizing, and drafting of their essays. The students will be taught to write outlines, add supporting information, and draft their essays. The program also includes several graphic organizer templates appropriate for note-taking, research papers, summer reading, and many other types of essays. The second instructional software program, Write: Outloud, contains a talking word processor that provides assistance with the revising and editing of their writing. This includes a talking spell checker, homophone checker and dictionary to help your students confirm their word choice. These software programs will be included on all school computers and students will also have an opportunity to load this software to their home computers! NEXT STEPS: HOW TO TAKE ACTION WITH YOUR PSAT SCORE REPORT June 20-22 9 am-11 am Cost: $165 Rising grades 10 and 11 eligible Minimum of 5 students

This worksop will give students an opportunity to explore in depth all of the features included in the PSAT score report. Students will spend time working problems they had trouble with and reviewing answer explanations in each of the three sections of the test through CollegeBoard’s Quickstart. Students will also take a personality test through Quickstart and match the results to various college degrees and careers. Students will leave understanding what their own personalized SAT study plan should look like. Instructor: Heather Bradford

FINANCIAL PEACE FOR TEENS

June 13-17 12:30 pm-4:30 pm Cost: $165 Rising grades 10-12, recent graduates eligible The class is based on the Dave Ramsey principals for personal finance (emphasis on staying out of debt, creating and maintaining a budget, and learning how to balance saving, giving, and spending in a healthy lifestyle). Students will learn the Foundations of Personal Finance. The class would be a hybrid of an interactive DVD series by Dave Ramsey, intermixed with small group discussions and practical application. Instructor: Ashley Glover

CREATIVE WRITING SEMINAR – LEARNING HOW TO PAINT WITH WORDS June 27-July 1 12:30 pm-4 pm Cost: $165 Rising grades 10-12

Students in this course will generate free-writing in a journal, study models of good writing, and experiment with poetry and prose. Students will develop a sense of speaker and audience. They will provide positive support for their fellow writers and learn to revise their work using concrete, sensory details and appropriate choice of diction, syntax, purpose, and audience. Students will also learn techniques for evaluating writing. Instructor: Ashley Glover

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS

ART PAINTING CAMP

June 6-10 9 am-12 pm Cost $165 – (this includes cost of all materials) Rising grades 7-9 eligible Interpret what you see and learn to look in a whole new way! Painting camp will explore individual visual experience through experimenting with mixed media. Materials will include paint, modeling compounds, paper, fiber, and collage materials. Be prepared to create sculptured surfaces, collage, dripping, and pouring while exploring textures, values, balance and contrasts found in nature and the imagination. Instructor: Hank Kunath

CLAY CAMP

June 6-10 1 pm-4 pm Cost $165 – (this includes cost of all materials) Rising grades 7-9 eligible Students will experience clay in a whole new way: coils, slabs, and wheel thrown vessels and tiles with a new look. Clay camp will explore the individual experience of creating objects that are beautiful to the eye, a pleasure to touch, and both functional and abstract. Materials will include stoneware clay, glazes, and tools used to create some visual magic. Be prepared to experience creating abstract sculpture in relief, tiles, jewelry, and functional ceramics. Experiment with glaze and embellished textured surfaces. Instructor: Hank Kunath

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY CAMP June 6-10

9 am-4 pm Cost: $300 Rising grades 8-12 eligible The Music Technology Camp is designed for students entering 8-12 grade to explore and enhance their learning and understanding of the world of Music Technology. Each camper will develop skill sets in music recording, mixing and sequencing, as well as live music technology. Topics will include recording a band, sound design, music for film, music creation through technology and enhancing performance with technology. Students will create original compositions that use digital audio and MIDI with the aid of specifically designed music stations. Instructor: Chris Moore

DANCE MOUNT VERNON SUMMER DANCESPORT CAMP June 6-10 1 pm-4 pm Cost: $165 Rising grades 8-12 eligible

The DanceSport Camp is designed for students entering 8-12 grade to explore and enhance their learning and understanding of the basic elements of Latin and Ballroom dancing. Each camper will learn the core step patterns of the rhumba, mambo, salsa, cha cha, samba, swing, and hustle. In addition to learning and differentiating the beat of these dances the students will also learn the interrelatedness of each of the dances and the history behind their roots. No prior dance experince is required but students are required to bring proper DanceSport shoes. Instructor: Nancy Eder

HANDWRITING WITHOUT TEARS! June 27-29 9 am-11 am Cost: $150 Rising grades 4-6 eligible Come join a group of friends to learn how to write in cursive! We will be using the Handwriting Without Tears program. This camp is dedicated to students who have little to no experience writing in cursive. Instructor: Nicole Martin

MISCELLANEOUS EDIBLE ART

July 11-15 1 pm-4 pm Cost: $150 Rising grades 2-4 eligible Campers will learn how to make buttercream icing and how to color it using food coloring. They will have the opportunity to use different techniques to decorate cupcakes and cookies. Instructor: Angela Johnson

“NO BAKE” COOKING CAMP July 18-22 1 pm-4 pm Cost: $150 Rising grades 2-4 eligible

Campers will learn easy recipes they can make at home and that will be safe for them to cook. They will begin by making their own apron and cooking hat in order to be properly attired for camp. Instructor: Angela Johnson

IMAGINATION STATION

July 25-29 1 pm-4 pm Cost: $150 Rising grades 4-6 eligible Campers will get hands on experience combining science and creativity. At Imagination Station, campers are inspired to express their creativity, work as a team, and create new things. Instructor: Mary Cantwell

MVPS DRAMA CAMP

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

Campers will explore the great outdoors together. They will do various activities such as hiking, ropes courses, and more. Each day they will travel off-site to a new outdoor adventure. Instructor: Mary Cantwell

ART SCULPTURE

July 11-15 9 am-12 pm Cost: $150 Rising 1-6 eligible Campers will explore sculpture using diverse media such as food, clay, wire and papier mache, found objects, and recyclables. Instructor: Kat Mattimoe

PAINTING AND DRAWING July 18-22 9 am-12 pm Cost: $150 Rising 1-6 eligible

Campers will spend time drawing real and imaginary subjects using a variety of media including pastels, water colors, and acrylic. Instructor: Kat Mattimoe

All summer camps must have a minimum of 6 campers. $300 for all Full Day Camps.

July 25-29

Cost: $300 Rising grades 3-8 available Mount Vernon’s first ever intensive drama camp for Lower and Middle School students. We will spend the mornings learning new skills as a group, then divide into age groups to practice. We will prepare a production in the afternoons and perform for the community on Friday evening. Parents — Remember those summer camp experiences when you were a kid? Well, Mount Vernon is bringing those experiences back! Campers will participate in traditional summer camp activities including (but not limited to!) campfire songs, s’mores, relay races, arts and crafts, and water events. Campers will be divided into teams and compete in challenges throughout the week in order to win points. At the end of the week, the team winner will be announced at the awards assembly.
