Spectrum Event is not the usual event based on a specific theme, forget the usual "old themes" and be amazed by something different. We, at VSN, always try to bring every kind of content and/or designer to talk about and with, this month I decide to shine a light on a good friend of mine that puts all her passion and kindness in what she does and into her own store. I'm talking about Triss Nightshade, owner of Deadly Nightshade a whimsical and Magical store that sells a large variety of auras, effects, typers and, recently, moved onto original mesh too! Before starting I want to thank you, Triss, for the time you spent answering my questions and going back and forth on it! It's a pleasure having you here and aving the chance to talk with you about all this! So, without further ado, before i loose myself down the rabbit hole, lets start with the question!! 1) Tell us about yourself: How long have you been on SL? What brought you on the Grid? I’m a young adult, outgoing and very theatrical in nature. I love fantasy, and live for a good story or game! I’ve been in SL (off and on) for about 8 and a half years, and always end up coming back for the community. I’ve made some of my best friends in SL and love how connected it can be to the world at large. Like most people in SL I started out doing what everyone does, shopping! And when I figured out I could be anything I could imagine for a few $L I started creating all kinds of looks for myself. My avatar was basically a moving doll for me. But then it became more, it became a way to express myself in ways that aren’t possible in the real world.

2) You're the owner of Deadly Nightshade, a whimsical and magical store. What made you say "I'm going to open my own store!”? Did you have previous experience? If not, how did you acquired them? I had been volunteering on the staff of a couple magical sims for a few years. I would help build their sims, do some general customer service, and help shape stories for their experiences; for those of you who aren’t familiar with experiences it’s kind of like level design in a game. It was when I was working on one such experience that something was pointed out to me. I needed a script for something I was working on and was asked if I wanted the script or if I wanted to learn to write the script myself? It had never crossed my mind. I had only really learned as much as I needed to fulfill my duties to the sims I loved. I never considered that I could learn to do the things that so many of the creators I love do. That not only could I use my skills to help others but I could also develop skills that allowed me to bring my own visions to life. From that point I started learning everything I could from anyone who would teach me. I learned almost everything I know from other people in Second Life. Creators and talented people from all kinds of backgrounds. They helped guide me along the path to what I really wanted to be: A Creatrix of Magic! Thus Deadly Nightshade was born.

3) I've noticed you went from effects and auras to Original Mesh, what brought you to this choice? I love doing particle work, auras, and effects! Anything to make an avatar look a bit more magical. But there is only so much one can do with that alone. I wanted to expand my talents. Make enchanted artifacts and other accessories to add a bit more fantasy into SL. There are a limited number of people in SL who do some of the things I’m learning to do, and I would be sad to see things like this lost to the grid. So, I decided to make myself a part of that. Contributing what I can. I figure if I make something I will enjoy, perhaps others will enjoy it too! Deadly Nightshade is my way of getting my visions out to the community. 4)Where do you get your inspiration? What do you do when you don't have it? I draw my main inspiration from all the fantasy books I grew up reading, though of course that also expands to included the video games, movies, and graphic novels of today! I’m also greatly inspired by the works of other talented creators. Each time something new and amazing is made it reminds me of what’s possible. Which in SL that’s almost anything! If I’m struggling to come up with a new idea, I open a book and start reading, watch a new movie, or just scroll through flickr to see some of the inspiring works of art the community puts out there. (Our blogging community is second to none!)

5) What are your plans for your store's future? I hope to be able to continue to learn and grow, adding to Deadly Nightshade with everything new I manage to create! I want to continue to make enchanted artifacts, mystical effects, and maybe even a modular magic and combat/rp systems made to enhance the many roles one can take on in a world where anything in possible. I’ve also considered a line of *enchanted* clothing but I don’t know the first thing about rigging or clothing design for that matter. But I’m sure I’ll learn! 6) What advice would you give to someone who just started or want to start with their own store? You can do it! Believe in yourself, be humble, ask for help if you need it, and never give up! Do what inspires you. Don’t let your vision be crushed by others, and stay true to yourself. I started out not knowing anything at all, never having taken a programming, art, or 3D design class in my life. And out of my passion was born talents I never knew I held. It’s very fulfilling to see others enjoy your work. Need to get your name out there? Join some events, and be kind to the event organizers their job is more difficult than you know. Also, never underestimate the value of your bloggers! Treat them with respect and appreciate their work. You’ll see your visions come to life in ways you never imagined.
