WELCOME to our 40th ANNUAL AUCTION Dear Friends, It is always a pleasure to share good food, great fun and an evening with you, the Maumee Valley Community. This year’s fundraising event provides us with the perfect occasion to enjoy one another’s company while also providing much needed financial support for our students and faculty. With your support (and active bidding) we will make possible all the “extras” that make MVCDS uniquely wonderful-- from class trips to outstanding arts and athletic programs to small classes and extraordinary academics. Join me in thanking event chairs Lisa Oberlin and Jessica Bohl Naprawa ’98 for their vision, and for the many hours they put into ensuring that this event is a success for our school. In addition, Board members Rick Kaser, Andy Weiner, Mary Jarrell, and Areka Foster have all contributed their time and energy. Providing the support behind the scenes are all the impressive members of our Advancement and Business Offices-- Jason Zajac, Jeniece Corwin, Weezie Foster ’82, Hannah Spengler ’08, Melissa Kuhl, and Kim Spurgeon. A special thanks goes to all the faculty and staff and to members of the parent community who are helping with set-up, tear-down, and throughout the evening. So, please join me in bidding frequently and generously! Your presence here tonight and the countless other ways that you participate in the life of our school are essential to our ongoing success. Enjoy the evening!

raise the PADDLE

Join the MVCDS Safe Rider Society. Raise your paddle to support the purchase of a new school van. The two white school 2002 vans are used daily to transport students on field trips such as Oleander Park (UI), Service Projects (US), Maumee River for testing waters (MS), Gus Brothers Farms (ELC), Christmas caroling, Camp Storer, away sports competitions, and so much more. The International Families have rallied together to purchase one van, but both vans are in desperate need of being replaced. For the safety of our children, the ability of our teachers to plan meaningful field trips, and the ability for our sports teams to travel together to away sporting events, please raise your paddle generously.

For the past 27 years Maumee Valley has been my home away from home. I am forever grateful for the opportunity it provided me and my family. Thanks to all the students who suffered through my algebra classes listening to my lame jokes and awful singing of “Algebra Man,” and my insistence that they always show their work. Thanks to all the parents who believed in the work we do here and supported us in providing our students with the best educational experience we could imagine. Thanks to the faculty and staff for embracing all that is progressive and exciting about MV2020 while also ensuring that the essential qualities of an MVCDS education endure. Thanks to my administrative team, and especially to my administrative assistants Kay, Sarah, and Deb, for keeping me grounded, organized, and on-track. Squirrel! Thanks to all my Board Presidents: Scott Parry, Fritz Byers, Hilary White, Fred Deichert, Dave Francisco, Jeff Helmick, and Matt Buchanan for your insight, wisdom, and forbearance as I learned to do this job. Thanks to all the incredibly generous, gracious, and compassionate philanthropists without whom Maumee Valley would not exist as we know it. I feel privileged to have known you and to have worked alongside you. You know who you are. With great affection and wishes for an even greater future, Gary, Bonnie, Tyler ’01, Emily ’05 52

416 DEERING GOODTIME TWO 5-STRING BANJO WITH RESONATOR Greg Deering designed the Goodtime banjos because there were no reasonably priced banjos of enough quality for people to actually learn on without difficulty or giving up. The Goodtime Two weighs 6 lbs - about the weight of a guitar. The Goodtime Two has a natural blonde maple with a satin finish to protect it. The rich, golden tone and the reverberation off the resonator sound great. You can definitely tell a volume difference between open back and a Goodtime Two. The sound waves aren’t getting trapped between you and the banjo, which makes a pretty big difference. If you want a great bluegrass banjo for travel and leisure that plays correctly and is durable, this is the best buy on the market! Donated by: John and Sally Russ 57
