2022 IMPACT
Board of Directors

2022 was both a challenging and exciting year.
Throughout the year, we saw a continuous rise in community need for food, shelter and pantry items. The impact of inflation and the rising cost of food, gas and rent took a heavy toll on individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. MRM experienced a 33% increase in meals and shelter needs over the previous year. Our need to fill open staff positions became a consistent prayer request for our shelters and thrift stores. But through it all, God’s timing and provision remained constant. We saw dedicated staff and volunteers fill in the gaps and do more with less. We are thankful faithful donors and the community answered our additional pleas for help during the year.
In February we were excited to publicly launch the $5M RISE UP TOGETHER capital campaign to build a 16,000-square-foot Community Resource Center and Daycare & Preschool facility. We held a groundbreaking ceremony in late April and construction began in May. By early August, we gathered for a Topping Out Ceremony to commemorate the completion of the building’s structure. In late August the community furnished the finishing touches needed. It was certainly a whirlwind year!
From beginning to completion, this fully funded capital campaign has been guided and directed by the hand of God. Muskegon Rescue Mission couldn’t have put this together without Him and private funding from over 250 donors, including local businesses, foundations, churches and individuals. Overwhelming support has turned this vision into reality.
We are grateful for every donation we receive to support the men, women and children we serve from our community. This lifechanging mission would not be possible without your support. Your gift changes lives and empowers future generations. We look to 2023 with great anticipation.

MRM provides meals, beds, showers, clothing, chapel services, case management, health screenings and more.
Our Men’s Shelter is open to men 18 years and older. The Women’s and Family Shelter also accommodates single fathers and their children. Families share meals, attend chapel and enjoy family-centered case plans as they work toward ending homelessness.

MRM is committed to helping men and women overcome homelessness and repair broken lives. The workforce readiness goals of the program are employment, housing and an ability to maintain an independent lifestyle.
Our Man of Integrity and Woman at the Well programs focus on rebuilding lives based on a solid foundation rooted in God’s word. All aspects of life are addressed – spiritual, physical, mental, emotional and social to support life-changing solutions. Attaining a sustainable lifestyle of independence centers on overcoming the root causes of distress, trauma and dysfunction that often accompanies homelessness. These Christ-centered programs provide spiritual development, life-skill counseling, individualized case management, classes in money management, parenting and job skills, immersive Bible study, job search assistance, help obtaining a GED and developing housing readiness based on individual needs.
MRM has over 60+ community partners, including ministries, counselors, social workers and employment agencies, to help men and women overcome challenges with a renewed sense of hope, self-worth and integrity.
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Shawn, who entered the Man of Integrity program this year, shared, “MRM staff is the most sincere group of people who genuinely care about how you are doing. It’s not just a paycheck for them. They care about you and want you to succeed.”
Pearlie has a stronger foundation in God and is determined to accomplish more than ever. She said, “MRM helped strengthen me. The program drew me closer to God, helped restore my self-confidence and changed my life.”
In February we hosted our Business to Business Fill The Bowl luncheon in person this year! We met our goal of 10,000 meals that we provided for those experiencing hunger in our community.
Our ForeShore Adventure Run raised 17,000 meals and had 776 participants register! For close to 500 runners, it was their first time joining the fun. We look forward to their return in May 2023!

MRM hosted the annual Fall Dinner at Olivet Evangelical Free Church and thanked over 300 in attendance for their impact on the lives of the men, women and children we serve. Two men from our Man of Integrity residential program shared their testimonies and personally thanked donors for their continued support.
It was our second year holding this exciting event. In August we had 15 rappelers go over the edge of downtown Muskegon’s 8-story HighPoint Flats building to raise money for MRM.
MRM’s Community Pantry is open every Thursday morning to serve individuals and families. Our pantry shelves are stocked thanks to our Meijer Simply Give partnership, local church groups, schools, individuals and businesses who collect and drop off donations. Devoted volunteers organize donations and help with weekly distribution.
Food insecurity is an invisible crisis that affects many college students on campuses across America. Over the summer, MRM partnered with Muskegon Community College to stock and maintain their on-campus pantry available to enrolled students. In addition to providing food and personal care items, MRM provides career readiness gift certificates for use at our three local thrift stores, allowing students to shop for free career and seasonal clothing each quarter.
