passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2017 in Eau Claire, MI, under the care of hospice, her caregiver/sister Sara, and Sue’s dear friend, Pam Herzog. Sue had been living in Denver, Colorado near her son and his family being “the best Grandma ever” prior to her sudden illness the week before Thanksgiving of 2016. Sue is survived by her father Bob Reinking, her sister Sara Reinking, her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Jeff Sampson, and son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Danielle Dehmler-Buckley, along with their children Owen and Lucy. Sue was born in Saint Joseph, Michigan on May 18, 1947 to Robert and Ruth (Pluenneke) Reinking, and grew up in the Watervliet area. She graduated at the top of her class from Watervliet High School and was delighted to be listed as “the Fashion Queen” in the senior annual, a title appropriate for her lifelong love of clothes. She attended one year of college at Valparaiso, then transferred to Ferris State where she obtained her pharmacy degree. She married and was blessed with her two wonderful children while residing in Michigan. Sue then made her home in the Virginia/New York areas until retirement. Sue opened and managed several different pharmacies over her 40-year career, being ever cautious and thoughtful regarding her clientele. She also developed strong and lasting relationships with many of her co-workers. Sue enjoyed reading, clothes shopping, reading, her grandchildren - both the two-legged and four-legged varieties, reading, the TV show “Dancing with the Stars” so she could talk with her sister about it, reading, many childhood family summer vacations, reading, searching for the best tasting enchiladas, playing pinochle, and of course, reading. She enjoyed watching all things in nature grow, and was able to witness the beautiful bursting forth of Michigan’s spring this year. Sue’s family would like to thank Caring Circle/Hospice at Home staff, especially Charsie, Julie, Kunga, and Valencia. Also, a special thanks to Diedra Yarbrough who provided additional support in Pam and Sara’s home during Sue’s transition. There will be no service at this time. An inurnment will take place with a private family gathering at a later date. Due to her love of dogs, memorials can be made in Sue’s name to Canine Companions for Independence at http://www.cci.org/. Click on Donate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 269-556-9450. Those wishing to share a memory of Sue online may do so at www.starks-menchinger. com

thewson) Crandall formerly of Muskegon, Spring Lake, and Traverse City, died on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, after an extended illness. Shirley was born March 8, 1925, in Muskegon, the daughter of John and Faye (Poulin) Hughes. She was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School in 1943. She was one of the greatest examples of the Greatest Generation. Shirley married Edwin Matthewson, then of Coopersville, in 1947. They had four children, Charles (Edie) Matthewson and Mary Frances Matthewson, both of Tucson, AZ; Deborah Faye (William) Shaw of Traverse City; and James Edwin Matthewson who preceded her in death in 1979.
Shirley was an active member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Grand Haven, North Ottawa Community Hospital Guild, Spring Lake Golf and Country Club, the board of the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 132 (Grand Haven, Spring Lake). After moving to Traverse City in 1980, Shirley met and married L. “Max” Crandall in 1981, he being a life-long resident of Traverse City and founder of Max’s Service. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Traverse City Golf and Country Club, and Trillium Garden Club. She was also a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Tucson, AZ, where she spent her winters in recent years. One of Shirley’s greatest attributes was her empathy for others. She was a very faithful and intentional friend, reaching out to “neighbors” throughout her life. Even into her final weeks in the Villa Hermosa (Tucson) dining room or with friends down her hallway, she would always extend encouragement and good will. Shirley leaves behind her three surviving children, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John B. (Chris) Hughes, Jr., of Muskegon, two stepsons M. “Mick” Crandall of Traverse City, and Richard (Sharon) Crandall of Bay Harbor, MI, and a stepdaughter Kris (James) Owens of Traverse City, six stepgrandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 132, 344 Fulton St., Grand Haven, MI 49417. A private family service will be held at an early date in Tucson, and a public graveside service will be held during the summer in Spring Lake.
