BRIEF: The community centre is located in an unplanned neighbourhood of sector-25, Chandigarh that possesses a grave dearth of quality open spaces. Despite being the only public space for the nearby residents, the centre was not utilized to the fullest due to the lack of basic infrastructure and variety in program. The city decided to rejuvenate the centre and the space around it by adding amenities and opportunities for all age groups.
DESIGN: The centre was renovated on the theme of ‘Waste to Wonder’, with active involvement and participation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local community. The key initiatives undertaken as part of the project are: • Development of multi-purpose interactive kids’ play zone Aesthetic improvement of the inner walls through paintings • Exhibition & seating spaces for SHG’s • Amphitheatre for local students ‘Chaupal’ style seating space for the elderly
